Re prams, we got the oyster secondhand. That way if it is too big and cumbersome after the first 6 months its not going to be so bad having to buy a lighter stroller too.
Each PCT will have a standard approach to cord clamping etc. I think ours will automatically delay clamping for 10 mins, unless you ask otherwise. This way the baby gets all the blood back from the placenta. If left till it stops pulsating completely it will have sent back to the placenta anything it doesnt need from that blood.
I'm going for delayed clamping unless otherwise required at the time.
Well, baby did not behave today! We went for the risk assessment for the MLU. Urine, heartbeat, blood pressure all ok. Until we got to her feeling babies position and she thinks baby is breech! Might explain why my ribs have been hurting, because its babies head and not feet that are wedged up there!
Also when she weighed me, I'm only 1kg more than my booking in weight, plus measured 2cm smaller bumpwise than I should be.
So, now we have a growth scan booked for next week. If everything is ok growthwise, we then only need baby to turn for the MLU to still be an option.
We still had the tour around the unit though. There's 3 lovely birth rooms with pools and 2 recovery rooms for after the birth. They're averaging 25-30 births a month at the moment. At any sign of trouble mum/ mum and baby would be taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital (around 20 mins drive).
Oh took me out for lunch afterwards (to try to cheer me up I think).
First of the nct girls having a c-section tomorrow. She was booked for an induction next week (due to gestational diabetes) but baby is breech and growth has slowed down so they have kept her in after her routine checkups.
This list is moving so fast!! And its all feeling so real now :eek:Mini me due March 2014

2cm smaller is totally normal, Im often 3 smaller -(if the midwife is measuring - if the dr measures Im normally 1 under). But Ive put on er 31 pounds which Ive just looked up is 14kg! But having said that I am very petite and I think youre supposed to put more on in that case, I also know some of the weight has just gone around my bum has nothing to do with the baby lol, and Im always reading about some people loosing weight in pregnancy without even trying so if youre only 2cm under and the babys head is in your rib, they must be a pretty good size! So hopefully youll be able to go to the MLU.
Im not that brave though, my MLU is in our hospital.
You might be lucky though - the baby might turn and youll get it clarified at the scan.0 -
I think its just what suits you best. I dont think theres anything 'wrong' with the Vista but Im only 5'3'' and it was just way too tall for me. If I was a few inches taller it might have been perfect.
Our Oyster arrived yesterday and Im quite happy with the basket size though. I dont think Ill be putting much in it anyway, I mean if Im going food shopping or something Id be putting the car seat or baby in a trolley and loading it into a car, so Im only going to be using it for small stuff and the changing bag can hang on the handle or just fit underneath.
I'm only 5'2"but actually it's odd because I didn't find the vista was too 'tall' for me, in fact it seemed to be perfect for me with the handle on the shorter setting, and perfect for OH with the handle on the longer setting. But maybe it's just that I've got bad posture or something
We've got a polo and that's the only thing I'm slightly concerned about, that I might have to take the wheels off every time I want to put it in the boot, but we are going to go to kiddicare and get them to test it out going into the boot of the car so that should answer that question.
I think we will still go for the vista but I think I just need another look at the oyster to reassure myselfoh also I didn't realise until a couple of weeks ago that whereas the oyster comes with different colour packs, the vista doesn't, if you want a different colour you have to buy a new pram

Oh really hehe! I felt like I was about a foot too short for it and made me feel like a midget :rotfl:(Especially as the couple who were trying it out next to us, as it was next to the Oyster in the shop, must have both been about 6 foot tall each!)
I think Kynthia has it but shes taller than us, but Im sure if shes lurking she might say how shes getting on with it.
Yes Ive got a grape colour pack and a pink cover for the Oyster.0 -

I'm thinking I want to use it on paths and in parks as well as shopping centres, it has to fit in my Toyota Yaris, I kind of do want it to look pretty too! Yet OH is totally focussed on keeping the price of it as low as possible. Now I'm mainly looking at all these travel systems, but then people keep telling me they are a waste for the time you use them for and I could get something buggy/stroller like for half the price that's just as appropriate. And now you've effectively said the same? It's a minefield! I know I have a while as am only 24+3 but even so it needs sorting!! What are people buying? x
I felt exactly the same before buying a pushchair/pram. Didn't have a clue what I was looking at so I started off by going around mamas and papas looking and trying them out. Then did a bit more research into reviews and comparing the different features. In the end we settled on something that was light, compact (small car boot), adjustable handles (I'm short but DH is tall), swivel wheels etc. In the end we settled on a Stokke Scoot. I just loved how easy it was to manoeuvre around and it should last her until she is about 4 years old (fingers crossed).0 -
I'm sorry I haven't come back to post again after my quick note about having an emergency c-section / appendectomy. I had to go back into hospital after my temperature peaked, so we've had a very busy week or so. Fingers crossed things can get back to normal now...
I'm sure my birth story won't be all that relevant to anyone else, but it might be a bit of a curio: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=64822595&postcount=263Mortgage when started: £330,995
