Very good point Claire!
Unfortunately if anything happens and I end up having an emergency C-section chances are oh won't be allowed in due to the extra time they'd need to allow for him transferring into one of their wheelchairs and getting in to position in theatre before they take me in (if it's with a spinal, if its under GA then no one can come in anyway).
But we aren't planning for that - we're planning for a plain and simple labour!
My mum keeps texting me asking me to put the hospital bag in the car and to consider carrying a bag of essential (like a mini hospital bag with stuff I'd need for me to get through until someone can go and collect the actual bag we have packed to the hospital) in case I spontaneously go in to labour! She laboured quickly with both me and my older brother (2hrs for him and 1hr 45min for me start to finish!!) and we were both early (him 21days, me 17days) so I think she's convinced I'm about to give birth any day without any advance notice!************************************

Sorry to be ignorant but how long would it take for them to help him transfer? I think if you have an unplanned i.e 'emergency' c-section, not elective, there will still be time for stuff to happen, because it could just be you were say induced but then nothing was happening, or your waters went early and baby was breech etc, but if its a crash one where it all goes crazy then I think any birth partner will get left as obviously they need to deal with the Mum.
I remember seeing that on OBEM before, the baby got stuck, the midwife hit one of those red buttons and all hell broke loose and the Mum was wheeled down to theatre asap and the baby was out in minutes. The Dad was just left in the original room. So in that situation I think your OH will be in the same position as anyone else, but Id like to hope he'd be able to go in if you just had an unplanned one! I wonder why theyre so funny about it needing to be an nhs wheelchair how weird.
At nct they also said its more likely that a crash section would be a general because apparently the anaesthetic starts to work quicker than a spinal.
Ugh dont really want to think about that happening!0 -
Looks like I'll be a boldy for a while ladies... went for a sweep this morning, and it was a bit of a disaster.
The Dr had a go, and couldn't reach my cervix because it was posterior, so he went and found a midwife who also had a go. She reached it, gave it a bit of a wiggle, but said although it's softening it's still long and baby's not ready to come out yet. She couldn't get a finger inside my cervix at all because it's still too tightly closed.
all this while also being watched by a medical student!
SoI have another midwife appointment on Tuesday, when she will try another sweep, and they've booked me in for induction on Monday 10th March. I really hope I don't have to wait that long.
Because of my high BMI they have done growth scans throughout, and at 37 weeks estimated baby at 7lb 14oz... by the 10th that's another 5 weeks of growing time.

Fingers crossed it will be a bit more favourable next week Emz118.
Try not to worry too much about the weight estimate, they are often way out. I had a growth scan at 36 weeks with my daughter which said she was nearly 7lb. She was born at 41+5 weighing 6lb12 x:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls

Thanks crabapple... I know a few people who have said the same thing about the scans.... just feeling sorry for myself!!!
It hasn't helped that hubby has gone upstairs for a nap, but I know if I go now I'll never get to sleep tonight.
Just considering making a birthday cake for my Dad's ex-foster child, who moved out a year ago, but Dad and stepmum are taking him out for lunch tomorrow, and have invited me as I'm so fed up! He's 19, so doesn't need a big fuss made, but I haven't got even a little present and sent all my "regifting box" to the charity shop as part of my nesting phase!!! The trouble is I haven't got enough ingredients so it would mean a trip to Tesco and I'm not sure I've got the energy!!! Urgh.First date 10.2.2002

At nct they also said its more likely that a crash section would be a general because apparently the anaesthetic starts to work quicker than a spinal.
Having just had both a spinal and a general, the spinal took a couple of minutes to work, whilst the general took a couple of deep breathes.
I think the NHS wheelchair is possibly due to infection risk - perhaps it can be thoroughly cleaned and stored ready for use - or due to space/size issues. If they let everyone bring their own chairs in, they'd be all sorts of designs and sizes. But I'm only guessing.Mortgage when started: £330,995
