Bubblepops wrote: »Whoever said they were making the cord ties? I love this! :T May pinch the idea if that's ok?
It isn't my idea to pinch! They are really easy to make, just make sure that they are longer than you'd expect. I didn't measure how much embroidery floss I used, but I used one strand separated of each colour (R,O,Y,G,B,V) and I chose to crochet mine with a 1.65 mm hook, but they can also be doubled up and plaited just as easily. I'd say that approximately 45 inches before plaiting/crocheting gave 26 centimeters/~10 1/4 inches finished tie. They need to be around 30 centemeters, but can be as short as 25. I wouldn't make them any smaller than that though, and longer = better as they can always be trimmed later if needed. So much nicer than the hard scratchy clips in my opinion.

I don't know how to add photos on here either to be honest but it's easy to do on the FB page ;-)
I'm an eBay addict already - most things I buy come from eBay! - so that's where I've been looking for a toy box so far. I need to keep a closer eye on my local FB selling page but the good stuff goes so quickly! I'm currently on the look out for a dishwasher and tumble dryer for when the building work is done. It hadn't occurred to me to go to flea markets or furniture sales for a toy box though so I'll have to do some googling - thanks for the tip!
Your dresser sounds lovely too! Are you going to paint the toy chest or leave it as wood?0 -
Oh Bubblepops, sorry I meant to say sorry you've been having some worries but it's good your hospital is keeping a close eye on you. I'm glad the midwife gave you a better explanation and hopefully you feel a bit calmer now x0

I'll pop it up on the fb page. Not sure about painting it yet, it's been painted badly do we're going to get it stripped & then see what it looks like. Might just wax it.0

Princess, you sound very much like me in that there would only be a baby shower if it fulfilled certain conditions, and one of those was that I am not sniffing any nappies or tasting baby food
I also feel the same about gifts. I had always seen them as being organised by mums to get more presents bought, and the one I went to felt very much like that. We were actually given a gift list  But I've said to my friends just like you have that this is purely a get together to have fun and eat lots of cake, I'm not expecting gifts and that's not the reason why I am having one. And fair enough to those of you who aren't having one, all very valid reasons
Thanks again for the replies about the classes. I just called up the community centre again to see if they had any luck and I got both good and bad news. The good - they've got a space in my area, starting mid-Feb and its all free. The bad - it's 1-3pm on a Friday afternoon for 5 weeks. Do they not realise that there are many mums who work and haven't started maternity leave yet? They don't offer any evening classes in our area so that's that out the window.
As far as I'm aware, we are entitled to paid leave for antenatal classes and appointments but only if specifically recommended by the midwife. These are optional though and I've not been advised to go, plus DH definitely won't be entitled to the time off and it won't be paid, and he really wants to go. Even if I were to go, it would also cause too much hassle in terms of covering my classes at work as this disrupts two classes, more hassle than its worth really
I think I'm therefore going to have to opt for the NCT classes as DH is really keen on going and they are held on a Friday evening. A sign of times ahead I think - parenting classes 7-9 on a Friday night! The total price for 6 x 2 hours for the two of us is £120, so actually I'm impressed with that price as I thought it would be going into the £200's. And shamefully, the snobby part of me thinks that the types of parents I'll see at the paid evening classes will share more in common with me than the ones who I'd potentially meet in the afternoon at the community centre. Oh dear, I sound like such a b*tch for saying that, but my heart did drop when the nurse told me in what area they would be held
Anyways, currently writing this at home as I'm off sick today - the first time in over 3 years! I actually feel alright within myself, I'm not sick or nauseous, but I just feel so achey and really didn't sleep well. My back is starting to feel it now, so thought I'd rest up today rather than battle 5 hours of terrible teenagersHad a nice lie in and woke up to my lovely Mum coming in. She's tidied the whole house, emptied the washing basket (contents now dried and ironed), stocked the fridge and even made a rice pudding
I'm a lucky lady so I'm thoroughly enjoying my day off today.
Hope the rest of you are all ok, and I can now finally sympathise with those of you who are feeling rough, unwell or baby is causing you pain! I've had an easy ride up until now0 -
Hi ladies, just reading back and checking in, hope everyones ok?
Angel, welcome!! Hope pregnancy has been good to you so far!
Aunty P, really hope your mum is ok, must be so worrying for you.
Milly and Bubblepops, sorry to hear you've been having issues, glad you're being well looked after and babies are ok.
Mrs T-M, i was convinced i was going over with ds1, absolutely convinced! But he arrived 5 weeks early, caught us all of guard and we had nothing prepared, no clothes, moses basket, nappies etc! All i'd say is be prepared, the little naughties like to keep us on our toes, altho its looks like you're on top of everything!!
Missy, can relate to a rubbish MW, mine is carp!! She couldn't understand my book in blood results, actually said there was a word within the results she'd never seen before and did i know what it meant!! She then tried to phone the hospital to get my blood group but couldn't dial the number so asked if i could find it out for her on my consultant visit and to tell them that she tried to call them but it was engaged! Double  At my last appointment, she asked me why she had to refer me to the consultant, even tho the notes, written by her were in front of her! She told me not hold my breath about finding babys heartbeat at 24 weeks which was very reassuring....not! Anyways, needless to say, i've not had any info on antenatel classes or whooping cough jab, i'm seeing her on monday so wil see if she says anything!
With regards to the antenatel, i didn't really find them much use last time round, it depends on how they are done but mine were rubbish, and also not good for the social side, i never saw the any of the people again. From what i understand the NCT classes are much much better for building relationships and meeting others to form friendships with.
AFM, had another scan this morning which was completely bemusing. All during the appointment and scan, the doctor kept saying he didn't know why i needed to be seen weekly, baby was fine, steroids weren't needed etc. Unnerved myself and OH as it was the opposite last week. Anyways, after the scan he went to write the report up and plot the graphs only to come back out and say, yep, they're not happy, baby is measuring small, steriods were needed, he scanned me again to check fluids and to come back for another scan in 2 weeks. He seemed to indicate that steriods would be delayed till the nxt scan, only for a nurse to come out 10 mins later while doc completed by notes, asked me to go into a side room, drop my trousers and she jabbed me in the bum!!! She then said i needed a second dose within 24 hours so i need to go back tomorrow  I think my boss is beginning to get slightly annoyed but all these appointments and it doesn't help the hospital always runs at least an hour behindI only work 2.5 days a week and can't remember the last time i did the hours i was supposed to!
So, after that epic post, well done if you managed to read it all! Tomorrow is another day (albeit another hospital appointment!)!! :rotfl:0 -
Angelmommy welcome to the thread and congratulations! baby no 4 eek you must be an expert by now
Aunty Pickle sorry to hear about your mum. Alzheimers is a terrible disease
Always alone sorry about your appointment todayhope tomorrow goes okay. Sorry if I missed it but have they told you what happens if baby continues measuring small?
Sorry that some of you have had trouble with your care, midwives and classes etc. I am normally the first to rant about the NHS as I've had many bad experiences in the past but I can't join in on this occasion as my antenatal care so far has been very good. I think it must depend on area as it's ever since I've moved to a different county that I've had good experiences! How sad.
If anyone is needing the whooping cough jab and can't get anywhere with the midwives - try asking your GP surgery, I think this is another thing that varies by area because although the midwife asked if I'd had it, it was my GP that actually sent the letter inviting me.
I am not having a baby shower, no one I know has actually had one so I am not sure if they are the "done" thing in my social circles… I could start a trend I suppose but can't really be bothered!!
Another MW appt today, all is good and had the HV visit today as well for the first time. Was surprised at how much detail they go into actually but she was nice and everything.

Jeez Always, what a palaver!!! Your experience sounds like my antenatal care is nothing to complain about
At least the doctor realised the error and you are still getting the treatment you should, as that would have been awful if you were given the all clear. I know what you mean about bosses starting to get annoyed with time off, but you're entitled to it and you'll be off soon so won't have to deal with it anymore
My head is fine and just signs the form whenever I email to say I have an appointment, but the fact that I email her rather than going in to see her personally shows how I feel about taking the time off
I'm just waiting for the 'What, again!?'. My Dept never say anything but I'm sure its irritating for them as they are the ones who have to cover me, so I try to make my cover work as simple as possible for them.
sulphate - 4 weeks to go  I'm glad your care is very goodI certainly don't feel that my care is a reflection of the NHS or the area in general, and its good to hear there are lots of positive experiences out there too. I suppose its like everything in life, mistakes will be made or things will be missed. I think though that because we have a little life inside of us that we worry about so much it makes it more significant when these things do happen. Out of interest, what do they do at the HV? Or should I say, what *should* they do!

Missy - Hope you're feeling a bit better & a rest has done you good. What a lovely mummy you have!
Always - Your appointment sounds a bit of a nightmare, glad they finally worked out what they should be doing for you tho. Don't worry about work, you & baby are much more important!
As for me, my decorator came back today as the he tried to put the wallpaper up on monday but one of the rolls was damaged, I took them back to mamas & papas and they replaced them. He came today, cut 2 of the rolls and the 3rd is more damaged then the 1st lot! I'm so annoyed! You can't phone the store directly and the customer series line shuts at 5 so I can't phone until tomorrow & I'll have to go back down again. So frustrating as I just want it done and this is twice the decorator has been back now. Hopefully it'll be 3rd time lucky!
My back/hips/pelvis are still causing me a lot of trouble, I've slept so badly all week I feel exhausted. If I find a position to sit down in I can get comfy but when I try to stand up I'm in agony. I've got physio next tuesday that my midwife referred me for but I don't know if that will help or not. Just really don't want another 12 weeks of feeling like this, so keen to do anything that may help.
Sorry for sounding miserable! x0 -
