That's bad about the classes Missymoo, hope you get sorted with them.
My midwife did similar with the first blood test I had, she took it but forgot that it had to be tested within 24hours and so we had to redo it. I don't get to see her until 28weeks, so 12 weeks since I last saw her. Seems ages.
Bought some bits today as our Mamas and Papas is shutting down, so they had 70% off Sleepsuit packs and bodysuits. Made them very reasonable so got some lovely floral and butterfly ones. Debenhams had Jasper Conran and John Rocha baby shoes, hats, tights and bibs in the sale too so they were all under £2!!
Will be going pram shopping next month I think so looking forward to that.
And I agree Angelmommy, I was on here with my last baby and it was really busy! XxStarted Comping Jan 2014

Welcome Angelmommy!!
Missymoo - that sucks! But yes, whooping cough can be done an time between 28 and 38 weeks but they recommend it sooner rather than later. Re: antenatal classes, we're doing the NHS ones (were given a leaflet early on about them) and I'm also doing the Daisy ones. My first one (daisy one!) is on Sunday so I'll let you know what they are like. In my area they are £60 for 6 sessions and each session lasts 1hr20mins.
Apologies for not replying to everyone else, my mum (who has Alzheimer's - I'm her next of kin) isn't well and I'm worried. Added to that she lives ~4hrs drive away and my OH is away at the moment with work so I've got no-one to off-load onto. Carers are going to check on her tomorrow first thing. It might be flu or pneumonia - she often gets something like that every January.
Sorry, a bit of an off-topic "pity-post" there....Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock0 -
Please do let me know how you get on Aunty, they sound really reasonable! Sorry to hear about your Mum, I hope she is alright. Always hard when they live so far away x
Phoenix, thanks for the sympathyGreat bargains you got there! I had previously told myself that we don't need any more clothes but when they are so cheap then its hard to resist

Missymoo I had the exact same problem today. I asked my MW on Monday about classes and she gave me a number to call. I called it today but all my local ones are fully booked and I was told I should of sorted it earlier. I wanted to use the classes as a chance to meet local mothers. I have been able to book myself in at the hospital for a day course in March I hoping it won't be too late.
Even tho I had to chase my MW about the classes my MW has reminded me at every single appointment about my whooping cough.
I can see why your annoyed, I would be especially if they ticked to say you had discussed topics but actually hadn't. I didn't discuss any of those things at my 28 week appointment, I thought they were discussed later on. So maybe she does still plan to raise the topics.0 -
Re: baby shower.
I told my friends and family I'd kill, them if they arranged a baby shower for me!!!, that sort of sums up my feelings about it. I've been to two before and I've never understood them.0 -
My sister is arranging baby shower for me but it's only happening as I supplied a list of do's and dont's, I did the same with my hen do! I don't want it to be about presents at all, I really don't like that aspect of baby showers and I didn't want people to think they HAD to buy a present to come. I just want it to be an excuse to get friends together before the baby arrives. My sister is having it at her house, think theres about 16 people coming now, just going to do some sandwiches, big cakes and scones and cream & jam with plenty of cups of tea! The only "game" I've said is allowed is guess the sex/DOB/weight/name etc. Don't want to be putting a nutella filled nappy on a doll or eating baby food!
Had my midwife appointment this morning, had my bloods and BP done, I'm measuring slightly over but I probably measured 10 weeks before I was even pregnant! Checked my weight on the scales there & I was the same as at home so I haven't put on anything since finding out, although I have lost & gained about 6 pounds, I really could do with not gaining much tho so I'm happy with this. Babies heartbeat was regular & strong & it kicked the probe when she was listening, cheeky monkey! Had my whooping cough jab too, didn't really hurt & i've felt fine since it. My back/hips were feeling lots better this morning & stayed that way until late afternoon, I really didn't think I'd be able to walk to the car when I finished work to get home! I did & have spent the evening in my pi's on the sofa & will be heading to bed soon. Hoping it will be better again in the morning, at least to allow me to get through most of the day.0 -
Cot mattress came today, so I made the cot up. Will need to move the mobile up, as it's nearly down at the mattress, but it's made and ready! He won't be going in the cot at night until he's at least 6 months old or so, but at least it's up.
And, pardon for the naked legs in the background (I'm hot!), but here is a bare bump shot from just a few minutes ago.0 -
Hi Missy
I'm pretty sure you can request to change your community midwife if you feel really strongly about it, although admittedly that might be a bit awkward! Didn't someone (Milly?) share a link on here to the NHS website where it listed when you should have appointments and what you should cover? Maybe you could print that off and keep that with your notes? Although obviously you shouldn't have to remind her of this stuff!
Mine didn't cover feeding or skin to skin at my 28 week appointment, she's not mentioned a birth plan yet and I'd think that comes first, although I guess I'll discuss that with my consultant more than her.
I wonder as well if you really pushed maybe you could get on one of the courses in your area. It's not your fault your midwife didn't tell you sooner and you're just one person/couple so surely they could squeeze you in! Might be worth trying!
Just a couple of thoughts I had about your post. Please don't let it put a dampener on your pregnancy though!
Re baby showers - I won't be having one, given my history it wouldn't be right, but I might try and do something similar once she's here, not thought about it much to be honest.
Kate - I've been meaning to say I'm totally jealous about your toy chest! I have quite a few toys for baby already so I've been looking for a reasonably priced toy box but they're all so expensive for what they are. Yours sounds lovely and a bargain - I'd love to see a pic!
Aunty Pickle - sorry to read about your mum, hope she's on the mend quickly x
Hello to all the newbies!
Sorry I'm still rubbish at posting, the builders have started this week and it's loads more disruptive than I thought it would be! Hoping things settle down a bit next week and I can actually relax! Hope everyone's feeling well x0 -
Re: baby shower.
I told my friends and family I'd kill, them if they arranged a baby shower for me!!!, that sort of sums up my feelings about it.
:rotfl: :rotfl:
This had me howling, I said exactly the same thing! Not against them in general, but for me, I can't imagine anything worse than all the attention on me!!
Sorry for not catching up with everyone, it's really hard on my iPad, and things have moved quite quickly, so hugs and well wishes to everyone, cos who doesn't need a hug every now and again.
missy-rant away. If you can't do it here, where can you? Plus I'd be pretty p'd off too, and it is difficult when they're nice too.
Whoever said they were making the cord ties? I love this! :T May pinch the idea if that's ok?
Had a worry filled and few days, ended up staying after breast feeding workshop for monitoring as I'd not felt diva pants since yesterday.
Everything Is ok, and a lovely midwife explained the high pressure thing. Basically it's a bit like blocked arteries in principle, and it means not enough oxygen is getting through.
But she's told me that my high readings are not high enough to worry, or do anything different, other than be extra vigilant about monitoring movement (like I wasn't neurotic enough already), so I feel a lot better now.
Extra Hugs to whoever else was having baby issues? Sorry-I said I was useless at the mo xxx'By all means let's be open minded, but not so open minded that our brains drop out.'0 -
I have no idea how to post a picture on here but if I find out how I'll put one up.
Have a look if there are any local flea markets or furniture sales close to you. Also check ebay or gumtree, I got a massive dresser on ebay which I have all of my emma bridgewater china on for £100 on ebay & it still have the original price tag of £700 in the drawer! Slapped a bit of Annie alone paint on the bottom & it looks fab!0
