Congratulations View- Hope you are enjoying time with your new addition.
Been very quiet for me.....all ticking over nicely and today is my last day of work- Can't tell you all how relieved I am that it is finally here.
I did decide to take a weeks holiday so am leaving a week earlier than originally planned- but I've just had enough now and want to be at home nesting and preparing. I'm 35+2 and it's time to put my feet up for a bit.
Congrats on wedding Toooldforthisagain- I'm glad it was a lovely day.
How are you doing freshstart11?
Thanks for the code minicazzybee- might have to have a browse there in a bit
Welcome to any new joiners and hello to everyone else just waiting for the big day0 -
Estateprincess I know exactly what you mean about waiting til January for bargains particularly as we are asking for vouchers for Christmas. And I feel like I have already said no to people/going out!! We have a wedding to go to just after Christmas which I've known about for ages but only just received the invite, is it bad that I am glad we are only invited to the evening!!
Northern and view many many congratulations on your baby girls
Nicky what a bargain for the cot! And lovely idea from your mum to get a box of baby bits. Well done on deciding on the pram! Hope you're feeling better now. Sounds like you got some fab bargains from the nct sale, how do you find out if those are going on in your area? I think they have dated me a week or two in advance as well - as we are due within the same couple of days will be interested to see who gives birth first!
b_girl not long now for youI don't have a child already so things must be more difficult for you but can definitely sympathise on waking up and lying awake for hours. I've struggled with it a lot this week as well as feeling thirsty so drinking more which obviously means more interrupted sleep for toilet trips then I cannot get back to sleep and end up worrying about things like money
I've found the later I go to bed the better it is - if I go to bed before 10 I am guaranteed to wake up in the night and lie there for ages and then finally drift off just before I have to get up for work and am really tired
if I go to bed later I often don't get the same problem. Sorry to hear about your FIL
freebiequennie when is your c-section? At least the end is in sight for you. Hope your hospital appt went well.
fuzzipeg sorry to hear you've had a difficult time of it latelyAt least the end is in sight
Toooldforthisagain Sorry to hear you've had a rough timeAnaemia is so horrid and tiring.
minicazzybee thanks for the heads up about new look. I'm not sure I can justify buying more maternity clothes! Am managing ok at the moment with the bare minimum!
shorty bet you are so relieved to be starting mat leave after today. Enjoy some time nesting
freshstart sorry to hear about your ambulance/hospital, hope everything is ok?

Sorry for the epic catch up post. Must post here more often.
I thought I'd posted this already, but we picked the silver cross wayfarer pram in the end, my mum kindly offered to pay for itWe were going to go for the uppababy vista but decided not to after failing to get the knack of folding it up. Don't want to be sleep deprived and struggling to get it in the car. Also the wayfarer only just fits in my car folded up (VW polo!) so I don't think the uppababy would at all. We got a really good deal in kiddicare.
We've got most of the big things now just the infant car seat we have yet to get, I am fairly certain we are going to get the maxi cosi cabriofix as it fits onto the pram and we already have the familyfix base. We are also going to pay for a private growth/doppler scan and have that in a few weeks. Feel like we have hardly any clothes.
MW appointment yesterday I am measuring slightly small for dates (27cm at 28 weeks) but still within normal range. I am not too surprised tbh because I think their dates are wrong and baby will be "late"got to make an appt for whooping cough.

I would be interested in hearing about the induction process - they have dated me a week further along than I think I should be so if I'm a bit late expecting induction to be suggested!
Thanks everyone for your well wishes. First time have found a few mins to jump online. Phew....what a whirlwind that was! Still can't quite believe she's here. One minute they're inside the next they're in the moses basket next to you ... bit of an ordeal if I'm honest however we're just taking each step as it comes. Biggest piece of advice I can impart (being a 4 day mother and all :rotfl:) is if anyone offers to do something for you, let them. I'm not saying if they say they want to come over before you're ready, but meals, or shopping or anything really. There are things now that I didn't realise that I would need ie a huge stack of maternity pads, along with the ones the hospital gave me. In fact, would anyone like to know what I used in hospital and what I could have left behind? I took a huge amount of stuff in and most didn't use but did get hubby to wash some comfy clothes I had been wearing and my two sets of pjs' and bring them back in.
Re the induction process. For me I was admitted at 1230 on Sunday. Into a ward of four ladies (one bathroom with a wet room shower, toilet and bidet) and curtains around each bed. A midwife inserted a pessary into the cervix around 2pm. That was left in for 24 hours to see if it kicked off labour. Aside from small menstrual like pains nothing else happened. Hubby could stay with me from 0900 to 1000pm but then had to leave. That was daunting but I just had to trust in the midwives and that he could make it back in time (he doesn't drive so it was cabs and staying at a cousin's house not to far from hospital).
Around 2pm Monday a gel was administered onto the cervix. This did start further pains and I was 1cm dilated but nothing else. We were told that a consultant would come and see me Monday night to administer another gel. The ward was hugely hugely busy so the consultant didn't arrive until around 3am. Hubby was allowed to stay in a chair next to me to wait for the consultant however around 1am I said for him to go home to try and get sleep (as at that stage we didn't know when the consultant would be back). Around 3am a quite firm consultant inserted gel and pulled on my cervix (yes you read right... pretty painful). However that definitely kicked things off.
I spent about 3 hours labouring and it was intense. I was given paracetamol and another stronger pain killer but threw both sets up. It was painful I'm not going to lie. I was roasting and walked the corridors to find a window to open. If I had been able to have painkillers it would have been a lot easier I imagine. I was seen by a midwife around 630am who confirmed I was dilated enough and ready to go to the labour ward. I was wheeled around, in a bit of agony. They rang hubby who dashed to my side. I had already booked an epidural however the midwife who delivered my baby said that my delivery was not going to be long as I was so far along the way. Stopping for an epi would possibly slow things down. I didn't care all I knew was that I needed to get some pain relief and that came in the way of gas and air. The anesthetist arrived a little later but I agreed to just go with it. Slightly out of my mind I think by that stage! Won't go into all the details however then at 9.11am our baby arrived safe and sound.
We were allowed to stay in the delivery room until about 6pm that night and the lovely midwife and her student mw checked on us frequently but not too much to be obtrusive. It was amazing for hubby and I to have our own space to bond with our baby. I didn't feel like I needed any painkillers after either so I didn't have anything. Just the way some births go. Stayed in one night at the hospital but was desperate to get home as it was so noisy - lots of crying babies of course! Was in a room with 4 ladies with newborns.
Feeling a bit sore today however that is prob due to stitches. I was sent home with paracetamol and hubby has to inject a needle into my leg for 7 days to help thin my blood. Hospital food was actually pretty nice, they let me choose from a menu (breakfast, lunch and dinner) plus they offered toast and tea around 10pm which was actually very well received.
Trying to get to grips with pretty much zero sleep, breastfeeding and looking after the wee one.
Hope everyone is doing ok on here. Will spend a bit of time reading back the pages and catch up on you all x0 -
Sorry I have not posted in a while, my tablet annoys me on this site so although I do try and read I don't always post. Also it has been a bit of a stressful week!
Many congratulations View. I would be interested in knowing what was useful in your hospital bag and what wasn't, for you and the baby. How long exactly were you in hospital for?
Also congrats Northern
Sulphate sounds like you are organised. The measurement is perfectly normal too, I think it is only 3cm over/under that they send for referrals, unless they have other concerns
Freshstart hope all is okay now, sounds frightening about the ambulance
Tooold - glad wedding went well, now you can focus on the baby! How exciting to have two big events close together!
Had a growth scan this week which has shown that I have have polyhydramnios (excess amniotic fluid), cue frantic Googling and upsetting myself. They want to rule out gestational diabetes so currently having to do blood sugar test 4 times a day, early days but so far it doesn't look likely. This only happened yesterday, and then had a fright this morning, as looks like I got my 'show'. Called the hospital in a panic, more because of the diagnosis from yesterday, but they don't seem that worried and said that unless I start getting contractions, my waters break or I don't feel any movement, it could still be weeks! Think looking up things is never good, as prem labour is one of the risks of excessive fluid and why I started thinking this was it. Now just hoping my waters don't break at work - I don't finish until Friday which will be 37 weeks, and although I am tempted to go earlier, I know that if I stay home I will just obsess and worry myself more.
Sorry for the self indulgent post, hope everyone has a good weekend0 -
Well done view, sounds like you did really well coping with your labour and I'm sure it was all worth it! Good luck with the next few weeks of adjustment! I would also appreciate you listing what you needed and didn't need in your labour bag but understand if you have your hands full!
Hi Sulphate! Our pregnancies sound weirdly similar so far! Had my 28 week appt on Thurs and measured 27cm which I was told was fine. Glad you got your pram sorted too -I'm excited about getting the vista but it seems common to choose a silver cross instead due to boot space so I'm sure they are good too!
Hi to everyone else, bet we are all glad it's the weekend! I'm finally getting over my virus and was in work all week except Thursday due to Midwife appt and treated myself to the afternoon off so I could go and visit a friend and meet her 2 month old baby! The MW appt went fine except that I mentioned in passing I hadn't felt baby move that morning and he/she had seemed quieter for a couple of days but was probably because Iq was busy being back at work etc and due to my anterior placenta I'm aware that the movements can be less when baby has shifted position. Instead of being nice and reassuring as she was able to find the heartbeat straight away she packed me off to the assessment unit for a CTG. It all seemed a bit of an over reaction but it was nice hear baby's heartbeat for half an hour and of course they started kicking once I was hooked up to the machine! I was quite happy after this and then the MW at the hospital sprung it on me that because it's not the first time it's happened I need another scan! Supposedly urgently but I'm booked in for next week. It's no bad thing and I would like the reassurance of knowing my placenta is working properly (especially as I was delivered at 33 weeks due to part of my mum's placenta dying!) And will be lovely to see baby again but I do have to say that neither of the midwives were very reassuring and made out that it's all more serious than it is! Especially as hubby was at work so I was on my own for all of this I could easily have gotten upset!
Anyway I still managed to make it to visit my friend and a lovely catch-up with her plus cuddles with the baby cheered me up! It was good to hear face to face from someone I know what her labour was like and how it's been having a newborn etc. She looked absolutely fantastic and has made lots of new mummy friends but did admit the first couple of weeks were hard but once feeding was established and she was all recovered she's been great!
I'm sure all be fine at my scan but I have now had a couple of dreams of going into labour now and how we would cope with a baby in intensive care! Going to try and enjoy my weekend and then roll on Wednesday for the scan!0 -
view thanks for sharing your story. Would definitely like to know what you used most in hospital and what you didn't. Hope you're still doing well.
tia I don't feel very organised but I guess there is still plenty of time! Hope things carry on going ok for you.
Nicky funny that you mention our pregnancies sound weirdly similar because I also mentioned to my MW that I hadn't felt much that day and after she found the heartbeat she said to go home and lie down for 2 hours and drink a cold drink which normally gets baby moving, and if that didn't work then call the maternity assessment unit (?). It did work though so I think it was just because I had had an active morning at work for once (I have a desk job) that movements were less. Hope your scan goes ok though and it will be lovely to see baby again. Bloody anterior placentas! I know that mine is anterior because it says on my 20 week scan notes and obviously know this can lead to less feeling of movement but no MW etc has actually mentioned the placenta to me. It would just be nice if it was mentioned! I use the count the kicks app, might be useful for you?
Ligament pain getting worse ugh, just walked to the shops and come back and collapsed on sofa! So much to do today, my kitchen looks like a bomb site!0 -
Not had chance to post but this made me chuckle.

Congrats on new babies. I can't wait for my baby cuddles now0 -
Okay so the things I found most helpful in my hospital bag. Bear in mind I was there from Midday Sunday to Wednesday night.
Earplugs are absolutely a must. I bought the Wax like ones from boots that warm and mould into your ears. A hospital ward is a very busy place 24-hours a day. Also an eye mask is essential.
Large bottles of water that I could decant into a smaller one. Drinking straws with a bendy top. Lansiloh lanolin cream for my lips and nipples. Biscuits, bananas, chewing gum, muesli bars and packets of crisps. iPhone, iPhone charger, Kindle, Kindle charger. Two sets of PJ's, tracksuit pants and two T-shirts. Day clothes (comfy dress and leggings) to walk to try to make the induction kickoff. Flip flops for walking around and in the shower. socks, hairbrush, facial wipes, face cream, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo conditioner, shower gel.
It was so hot in the hospital I asked hubby to take home clothes each time he visited to wash and bring back. This made a big difference to help me feel clean. Take your breastfeeding maternity bras in. Also take in as many pairs of pants. Or have them washed and brought back if you can like my hubby did. You need smaller pants for afterwards to help keep the pads in place if you are wearing larger maternity pants at the mo (as your tummy area will obviously be a little bit smaller.)
Also I didn't take nearly enough maternity pads. Depending on how long you are in I would take at least two large packs.
We found the newborn clothes we had brought for our baby were too big. So perhaps take two different sizes just in case. You don't need loads of clothes for them. They can stay wrapped in blankets and in a nappy whilst in the hospital so really just for when they come home or to keep them cosy. Also take lots of cotton wool pads and nappies for your new baby. The hospital did give us some but it was best to have your own supply.
I think that is it. If I think of anything else that I remember finding useful I will let you know.0 -
