Had a lovely few days with my mum visiting shame she lives 200miles away but she is back at beg Dec once baby arrives.
Tia cellular blankets are fine and really good I always find it a comfort they have lots holes so would be difficult to suffocate with one.
I will be swaddling for 6weeks then using sleeping bags. I have a couple 0-3mth one's which are small.
36weeks today got midwife later. Managed a puking session last night thought that delight had passed.
Not enjoying the lower back pain that I now have.0 -
tia86 - Thank you, it is nice to be here but a little bit scary too!
Timeflies - Hello AgainBaby seems to be getting really active in the day now, I think sitting at my desk all day is meaning there is less room so I can feel more, its lovely. And touch wood none of mine have hurt either - fingers crossed it stays like that!
Nicky Noo Na - Hello
Northern78 - That is really good news about your OH, your little one will be over the moon at Christmas.
AFM had my 25 week appointment Tuesday, a week early but the MW is only at the surgery every other week. Everything was great, bump measured at 23.5cm so slightly under average but I don't know how accurate that is anyway - my Mum's bumps were always classed as small and neither of her babies were! When we had our 2nd 20 week scan at 22 weeks baby was measuring 5/6 days ahead so who knows! Baby was hiding when MW looked for Heart Beat but it was very strong when she did find it, they were pleased with us both.
Have now got a very long list of appointments for Flu Jab, Whooping Cough Jab, 28 week appointment with bloods, 3d scan and Anti D Jab - my diary has never been so full!!
Hope everyone is ok and looking forward to the weekend, I know I am! x2014 - This is Our Year :j0 -
Estateprincess as far as I know you should measure approximately 1cm per week, but can be about 2cm out either way without any cause for concern. I wouldn't stress about it.
Just had the midwife round for a home visit to check out our house for a home birth. Everything is fine and we're good to go, we picked up the birth pool last night (just need to buy a liner and a new hose) and a TENS machine. Apparently I am 2/5 engaged (ie 3/5 still palpable) so everything is where it should be. I'll be 37 weeks on Monday and would desperately like to get the baby out between then and 40 weeks, I so don't want to go overdue as I am fed up now of SPD and painful feet in my ribs and not being able to breathe or eat a decent sized meal, but then of course nobody ever wants to go over do they?! Grumble grumble.0 -
Hi all. Doing my last week of on call at work this week and had to go in at 3am! It was actually fine and I felt great until I got home about 11. Went for a lie-down and have only just woken up lol. So much for my plans of sorting the house out with an unexpected afternoon off. Feel like I could happily sleep more but going to be good and get up in a minute so I'll sleep tonight (as long as I'm not called in again). It's weird but I find my bump feels heavier if I'm tired. Thank goodness I organised to come off the rota after this week, think 25 weeks is my limit for working overtime/middle of the night. Now just got normal days until I finish in Jan (and managed to get Xmas week off this year, yey!) Thinking I will finish about 36 weeks as seems to be the norm, based on the current rate of expansion of my bump I won't be able to move much after that!
What does everyone here do as a job? Think I'm quite lucky that apart from on call I just work 9-5 so plenty of rest most weekends. I work in a hospital laboratory which can be busy at times but spending more time at my desk as I get bigger so that's worked quite well so far. No idea how shift workers on their feet all day manage with pregnancy!0 -
Nicky I am a maternity night nanny and babysitter and also a qualified children nurse so have an employed nursing role in community and then self employed as maternity night nanny.
Had 36weeks midwife appointment today she was running 45mins late, had a student with her who was leading the appointments no name badges on either of them (only seen this midwife once before) so they just start asking questions after midwife told student what I did for job, so I said oh I am guessing you are a student midwife and yes by the way it's ok for you to be in on my appointment - they were a little bit oh oh. I had done same to other midwife prev with a student.
It annoys me they assume it's ok for students to be present and more so because of my job and I hated that assumption with ds post birth for home visits. I have student's working with me and always ask and make student wait outside wherever client being seen so they don't feel they have to say yes.
I actually wanted to ask for a reminder to go on my record that no students for home visits as due to my job I am in uni teaching alot or for meetings and its one thing them seeing me in clinic but my home is my home.
Sorry that turned into a rant0 -
Nicky 36 weeks sounds like a good decision. I am a teacher, mostly older kids so perhaps less physical than primary or younger years.
Angel hope the baby comes soon. I will be looking at ways of bringing on labour as want mine before Christmas, though expect he will be late and end up a January baby. It all sounds very organised for your home birth
Freebie does your surgery have a policy on students? I think my GP surgery has a sign displayed saying to notify reception if you don't want students in your appointment. Not sure if they then make a note of this or if it even applies to midwives but may be worth looking into.0 -

Hi ladies, think it's time I moved over to this thread as I'm 25 weeks today. How scary, I hear people on this thread actually have babies…
Loveactually I think HR are supposed to write to you confirming your application for maternity leave will be granted? That's what I heard anyway. Maybe it's different for different organisations.
Nicky my last day of work will be when I'm 38+1  Whilst I am already writing handover notes and want to make sure things go smoothly, with my work as it is now I won't feel bad if I suddenly have to leave earlier. I've added both of us to the lists btw.
Timeflies I've been told the same at work, they can't decide whether or not to replace me lol.
freebiequeenie I wondered about student midwives.... I had my 25 week appointment today and it was "just" with a student midwife, no other midwife present. I don't mind having students in but I thought that she would be supervised by a qualified midwife. Anyway, she wasn't.
She asked if I was feeling ten movements a day (definitely not) - she said as long as nothing has changed then it's normal but I felt a bit concerned after that. From what I understand from having an anterior placenta it's normal not to feel loads especially at this stage but she didn't ask about that so IDK. Also my pee tested positive for leukocytes (??) so they have sent off another sample for a UTI. On the plus side she measured my bump which was normal apparently, listened to the heartbeat which was nice and my GTT last week was normal so that's all good. She had to keep dashing out of the room to ask questions and get the other midwife to fill in the mat B1 form etc. Came home feeling not very reassured. I am curious as to how they are going to contact me if I need antibiotics for the UTI? Apparently my GP will but the results go back to the midwives don't they?
Ho hum, on the plus side we bought the cotbed last weekend even though it won't be used for ages. :rotfl: We also have a wardrobe so I am excited to start putting things in their rightful place! Had a really big stroke of luck, in that my parents' neighbour was giving away a maxi cosi car seat base and car seat that we were going to buy anyway (although the car seat is for 9+ months we just have to buy the infant one now). I know you're not supposed to get second hand car seats but we trusted them.0 -
Hi sulphate! Good news on the car seat and base, will save you a small fortune!
Can I ask which cot bed and wardrobe you got? Was it part of a set? We are really struggling to find something we like and will fit in the small bedroom......
I have my first parent craft class this afternoon, its a bit early but they had no spaces left on the December course. Guess it gives us plenty of time to prepare!
We are also off to look at the pram again before we put any money down. We are still looking at the uppababy vista but considering going with the new version. It costs £100 more but you can use the carrycot and toddler seat in tandem so don't need to buy a rumble seat separately if there is at least a 2.5 yr age gap between children which is the smallest we'll be aiming for. Seems a bit surreal to be buying stuff with a 2nd child in mind when this one is only just half cooked! Anyway the price works out about the same just £40 for adaptors if/when we need them.
Planning to also nip into Sainsbury's for some more baby clothes while they have 25% off so a bit of a baby filled day!
What's everyone else up to this weekend?0 -
Oh and I wouldn't worry about the 10 movements a day thing, I thought that was only much further on. When I went to get checked out at 22 weeks the midwife told me some women don't feel any movements at all until 26 or even 28 weeks! At my 25 appt I was asked if I could feel any movements yet due to my anterior placenta and she was quite happy when I said at least once a day.0
