I know the sizing as we measured the basket however there are so many different types of mattresses some foam some other materials some with dents in (something about flat head syndrome!). It's more about what type of mattress to buy if anyone had any suggestions?
  • Thanks view for asking after me and after a bit of rigmarole Arya Rose was born on 21/10/14 at 3.27am weighing 8lb 3oz.

Still in hospital and will hopefully be out tomorrow or Friday so will do a better update then.

Can I just warn you of the night 2 horrificness, have now been breastfeeding for 4.5 hours with no sign of it stopping. Make sure you get the latch right and bring in the lanisoh ladies as it's grim lol.

    Hi ladies!
An edited birth story for you, thanks everyone who was asking for me :)

Well after getting my sweep on Monday and then a show on Tuesday night, I went to bed just after 11pm. Woke at 0350 with contraction 5-8 mins apart. Stayed in bed not knowing how I managed not to wake DH with the pain I was in and my toilet attendance! Called the ward at 0730 but midwife wasn't too interested in me going in as they were still 5 mins apart. Had to call hubby home from work at 11 and he ate and showered and too me in. I was popped on a trace for a while before getting examined and then being moved to labour ward at 3.30.

The short story from there on in is Cooper Irvie Ken Cameron was born at 8.27pm (took midwife by surprise when I involuntarily started pushing so she let me get on with it. She was meant to finish at 8 but stayed on til nearly 10 until we were finished with everything) weighing in at 7lb15oz. He's got a funny shaped wee head just now but is perfect. And he has christened me in every way possible since being born!!!

I've managed a couple of hours sleep in the last 24 hours so if u do have a notion ur going into labour, rest as much as possible. There has been a lot of blood sweat and tears shed by me but every single drop was worth it!

    Massive congratulations alioops78 and MrsC!:T:T:T:j

I'm still not feeling ready at all, but your stories are helping! Lots of rest beforehand, and lansinoh definitely going in the hospital bag then!

view - I asked my midwife yesterday, as I was bamboozled by different prices for what appear to be exactly the same size & material mattress. She said they'll all be fine, so don't waste your money on the expensive ones!

freebiequennie - great idea about eating main meal at lunchtime - think I'll try that!:T
  • Congrats mrs c and Ali

Matress wise for Moses baskets buy cheapest one that fits its used for such short time. Cot matress buy middle road one price wise better if can get on offer n cot bed buy best u can afford again good if can get an offer theory being cot used til 2yrs old ish but cot bed til about 5yrs old.

MrsC - hope everything moves along smoothly for you.

shorty1978 and tia86 - when are you both going on mat leave? Mine is from the start of December, and I have a few days holiday, so it's about 20 days left at work. My job is similar to yours shorty1978, in that everyone on the team has their own things they look after - no-one else on the team knows the background to the things I look after, so I'm hoping to have a good long handover with my cover person. The approval for the vacancy is still stuck with some far off senior bod, who has never met anyone on the site, let alone knows what we do, so I very much doubt my cover will be in place from the start of November as planned.

Some good ideas for filling the freezer freebiequennie _ I'll be doing some of those, plus veg chilli and lots of soups - when I get round to it!

Mr_knight, no wonder you're not feeling great. Sounds like you're really going through it, so nothing to do but try to relax and do what you can to feel better.

Tia86, have you got contact details for the folk in your NCT class? Our midwife passed a piece of paper round for everyone to add their details, then I sent everyone an email saying did they want to join a private facebook group for the class. Given we only had two classes, we barely knew anyone's names, but around half the class have joined up, and we've planned to meet up soon. We don't know many people where we live, so it will be nice if some of the class want to stay in touch.

I'm working until the end of November, but I'm considering moving that by a week as I have an exam on 8th Dec and could do with some more study time. After work at the moment I'm too tired.

Need to take a few tips from everyone on here with forward planning food. My boyfriend does most of the cooking so I should find some time to do some bigger batch stuff.

Wow congratulations to MrsC tobe and Alioops- wonderful news - I hope things settle and you both get a bit more rest.
I can't wait to meet my little one so am a bit green with envy :) enjoy

Hi to anyone I've missed- off for my jabs now :(
  • Aw two new bubbas congratulations to you and your families :). I love hearing the good news makes me want to meet mine even more and it makes me scared how quick I'm moving up the list...........

31 weeks today and just over a week to the wedding, well if I can stay awake long enought to say my I Do... I am just exhausted the whole time and very uncomfortable :(. Anemia still has a good hold and I'm also due jabs which I hope is nice and plain sailing

Have about 4/5 weeks left at work and the advert for my job hasn't even gone out yet and I'm covering two departments at the mo so it could be fun fun fun !
Work haven't been bad but they haven't been good either if that makes any sense.

We bought the 2nd matress up for the moses basket as the cheap one was no more than a bit of sponge. For the cot bed we got the most expensive but it was half price in a sale and we had vouchers too, do like a coupon lol
If you can’t look on the bright side,
I will sit with you in the dark

Too Old For This how exciting that it's only a week to your wedding! Are you all ready for it?

We got a moses basket mattress for £10 from Toys R Us. The moses basket was given to us for free and they're used for such a short time that we thought it wasn't really worth spending loads. It seems ok though, it's foam but fairly firm. I decided that we needed a bedside crib as I am hoping to breastfeed and back problems mean that I'll struggle lifting the baby out of the travel cot we'd planned to use, but we've been lucky and found a second hand but never used one for half the price of buying brand new. Going to pick it up tonight.

I've already said congrats to Mrs C and Alioops on the FB page but will say it again here... delighted for you both :D

I started packing my hospital bag yesterday but ran out of steam, I really must finish it. I know lots of people who had already given birth by the time they got to this stage (35+3) and keep thinking I need to get myself sorted out as you just never know.
