  • By the way, anyone going down the hypno birthing route? Think I'm going to try it and have found a cd on amazon to buy.

    Congratulations cmace2 :j:j

runmichellerun Happy Birthday for yesterday! I do Lazy Daisy classes which have an element of hypnobithing to them. It's a sort of combination of hypnobirthing techniques without being too hippy-ish and yoga. They were recommended to me by some of the other ladies on here and I absolutely love them!

Laila, have your doctors come up with a reason for your breathlessness? I'm going to ask if it could be asthma. I'm lucky if I can walk 25 metres without having to sit or lay down. Now the back pain has started; when did everyone else's start?

Peonie I'm the same. The nct classes yesterday were upstairs and I struggled going up and down. Embarrassing!! Especially as the other ladies didn't seem to be bothered by it.

I'm assuming it's just the pressure of the baby, combined with a general lack of fitness. Let us know if the doctors say it is something more serious and I'll ask my consultant too.

T2D, my lazy daisie classes, starting in a week and a half, are upstairs. I'm going to be knackered before the class begins. The pressure from the baby has really started hasn't it?

Congrats cmat2, enjoy your baby cuddles!

Peonie - sorry you are still struggling. I get really breathless going up stairs too, but its always worth asking if you think that its more than the 'normal' pg breathlessness. There are so many things that pg can niggle, that its always worth asking. Hugs for feeling rubbish! x

T2D - How are you? What are the drs saying now about delivery, do they still expect you to go early? Hope you are still refreshed from your break. x

RMR - I looked into hypno classes, but they were about £300 which is wayyyyy to rich for my blood. Like you, I'm thinking on getting a CD and also trying Lazy Daisie classes. Happy birthday and yippee for baby moving! It can get you panicked when they take a rest for a few days.

Thanks to everyone for the advice on LD classes, I'm going to get in touch with my local group.

Angel - wow you are so organised! Hope the back has settled down and that the physio helps.

Bluebell - sometimes its easier if people would just keep their comments to themselves. hugs and I bet you look great! Thanks for the advice re the sleepsuit/vest/babygrow confusion, I'll go with your guidance!

Freebie - bet your Stokke looks brand new now, post a pic if you can.

lilmiss - wow you've not got long to go at all, how exciting!

AFM - got given loads and loads of mat clothes from friends who have just had their babies. So much that I could almost wear a whole new outfit everyday until baby comes. Sorted through one lot from one friend last night, just two more to go. Only one friend wants her stuff back as the other two are done with babies! Going to pass on the stuff that doesn't fit/suit to others I know who are expecting and spread the goodwill.

Was visiting friends at the weekend who have a 5 week old baby, OMG he was gorgeous and made me realise that it really won't be long until DH and I have a tiny baby like that!
  • Hi guys,

Just delurking to ask a question if no one minds :D

I am 25 weeks and just seen the midwife today everything is fine. My BMI when booking in was 25 and she said if I hit 30 for my BMI at any point during pregnancy I have to do GTT? Everything I read online indicates it is done before 28 weeks? Did anyone else experience this? I thought it was only if your BMI was over 30 at booking in?
  • Sweetpotato- I think the GTT advice differs for each area to be honest. I booked in with a BMI of 30.03 and was referred by the midwife to a high risk consultant due to it (and other factors but I asked her if other factors weren't present would I still be referred due to BMI >30 and she said yes...). That's the first and only time during my entire pregnancy that my BMI has been mentioned! I haven't been weighed since (am now 35+2) and wasn't required to do a GTT at 28 weeks. I live in Liverpool. Other ladies on the board in different areas have had GTT done regardless of BMI at booking in- apparently in their area it was standard practice whilst others have only had it when their booking in BMI was over 30.

So to sum up my waffling- it differs everywhere! :) though why they'd bother weighing you during pregnancy baffles me unless you've had hyperemisis or they suspect that you have high/ low fluid around baby- even in that scenario though I would expect they'd scan rather than weigh! One thing i'd look at is how much weight gain it would take for you to go from BMI 25 to BMI 30. This link suggests up to 26lbs is an average gain. http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/2311.aspx?CategoryID=54&#close . When you look at what this comprises of it may be inevitable that you hit BMI 30. http://www.babycentre.co.uk/a554810/weight-gain-in-pregnancy . Remember as well that you can always turn tests down if you don't want them. Not recommending you do but it's your choice whether or not to have a GTT. :)

But if you don't have the GTT I think they treat you as if you have diabetes.

I can't believe mid wives are using bmi during pregnancy. It's totally unsuited for a pregnant woman!! It's a measure of fat %, but it doesn't work when you are carrying 1-2 stones of water, baby, enlarged uterus etc. A healthy weight woman would become 'obese' naturally in pregnancy using bmi which is why they are not supposed to remeasure after booking in.

I do think there should be a way to monitor excess weight gain (which can get out of control) but bmi clearly isn't suitable.

This is totally just my opinion!
