Talking of eyebrow tints etc etc, my friend was telling me last night that she had listened to one of those radio dial-ins where they were talking about women getting dolled up for birth.
people were having their eyebrows, eyelashes, bikini line, hair, nails and fake tan done for the birth!! I mean WTAF?! I can't get my head round it. No matter how hard you try you will surely end up a sweaty mess. I don't get it at all!
in one case, some of the doctors were worrying about one girl's skin rash on her back - until she realised it was the part on her back she couldn't reach with the fake tan, and so it was all patchy there!0 -
I don't know why you would get dolled up especially for the birth! I'm
sure they see people in all sorts of states! however I've just made an appointment to have my roots done at the hairdressers, and I'm going to have my eyebrows threaded today - but mainly because I don't think I'll have any time after the baby comes! also I have a lot of time on my hands...
I've just been googling 'positive induction stories' to see if it made me feel any better which it did a tiny bit...but also has made me worried because a lot of the stories mention how their OH had to go home as it can take a long time, this has made me a bit upsetblah...should probably stop googling things.

Congratulations Mrs Muffin
I am another who is NOT enjoying pregnancy pretty much for all the same reasons as the rest of you. I love feeling her move and I do feel very grateful to be pregnant but apart from that I am not exactly finding it a fun experience.
Fainted at work this morning, then broke down and couldn't stop crying, and have now been signed off work for two weeks. Feel absolutely rubbish about it. There is nothing really wrong with me. Lots of people have far worse things going on than me. The doctor managed to slip into conversation that she had four pregnancies and worked up to her due date in all of them...just to make me feel even better! From work's perspective they would rather I was just signed off than coming in and out - it is easier to plan for and cover my lessons. Just feel useless and like a failure.0 -
Oooh up to number 26 on the list. I seemed to be in the 30s for ages. It's a bit scary that I might actually have a baby next month (if bump is a little early like DS was). Still, I'm another one who really isn't enjoying pregnancy so I'll be glad when baby makes an appearance. Last time it was all pretty easy but this time is much more tiring! Probably because there's less chance to rest with all the building works and a toddler....
I had the injection with DS but my placenta didn't bother to make an appearance, so had to go to hospital (after home birth) to go onto a syntocin drip. The doctor told me she was just going to have a quick check after a few hours, but actually pulled the placenta out and it was more painful than labour! That's why this time I'm going to try delayed cord clamping and no injection, as I hope that being left alone to let my body get on with things will work better. Though I wouldn't rule out the injection if I was bleeding heavily etc.
With DS I never had any Braxton Hicks, and haven't had any this time around yet either.
I don't drive all that much, but had a hire car yesterday to go on a few visits for work. It was really distracting when baby starting wriggling around and kicking me. I don't have any more trips planned, so hopefully I'll be able to avoid any more driving for a while!0 -
Went to hospital this morning for my consultant appointments. Blood pressure is fine and baby's heartbeat is fine, they won't weigh me anymore as the last weigh in is 36 weeks. All is fine as far as the diabetic consultant is concerned. But, my usual high risk consultant wasn't there, and they were telling me that I wasn't going to have an internal examination today and would have to wait until next week for a sweep.
I got very (politely) forceful and said I was told I would be examined internally today and I would be having a sweep if cervix is favourable as this baby needs to be out by next Friday if I'm to avoid induction, so they rechecked my notes and luckily my usual consultant had written in what had been agreed last time. So a midwife came to examine me, but it turns out that cervix isn't favourable so it doesn't look like baby is coming out anytime soon, her head was too high to perform a sweep . I was fine with that as at least they had checked and examined me.
The doctor had to come back in to speak to me about what would happen now, and basically they will try again next Tuesday and if cervix is still not favourable I will be induced next Thursday or Friday.
So I said what happens if I don't want to be induced next week, and the doctor said because of the GD I will be induced at term. Anyway he left the room, and then the midwife said, ask the same question to your usual consultant next week, she will probably tell you the same but ask her what happens if you refuse to be induced.
She said obviously I need to take into account that the placenta will start deteriorating because of the GD but they do have alternative methods for women who refuse induction, it would mean I have to come in daily from next Friday for monitoring but it would give me a few extra days to try to go into natural labour. I said I'm happy to go in daily for monitoring if it means I can avoid induction, I'm so glad the midwife was on my side, as I will be refusing induction - not forever but I just want a few extra days to see if it happens naturally.
I don't want to put the baby at risk but if the daily monitoring shows she's happy then I'm happy for her to stay in a bit longer!
I told my mum I'd decided to refuse induction and we had a bit of an arguement about it, she thinks I'm putting the baby at risk, but I said I'm not because I'll be monitored daily and if baby shows signs of distress I will agree to the induction, but I'm not just agreeing to one because statistically blah blah blah. Anyway, I think she's agreeing with my thinking now, she knows it's pointless trying to change my mind.
So it turns out these different pains are still just Braxton Hicks, and nothing is happening down there yet! Might have to slice that pineapple up!
Hope everybody else is having a good day!
Are you feeling any better Mrs C and skintchick?
Robots I think your knitting needle like pains are braxton Hicks as that's what they've said mine are!
firey I don't care what I look like for labour, when I was in labour with DS I couldn't have cared what I looked like and who came in to have a look! I was lucky when I was indiced that my waters went just before chucking out time so OH was allowed to stay, but if you're not in active labour they do make your OH go home at my hospital. That's another reason I'm going to give for refusing induction.
WTDN your one2one session sounds really good!0 -
daisie if you're fainiting then you shouldn't be in work, especially as it sounds like your job is demanding with running about between rooms and carrying books. So what if your doctor worked to term - I'll bet she had easy pregnancies! You'd think a doctor would be one of the first to realise that every pregnancy is different. Both have mine have been completely different!
Bluebell, I can't believe I'm at number 6 on the list and the next to go bold, which by the looks of it will be happening, no signs of queue jumping for me! You'll soon be in the top ten - it comes round so fast! I find baby tends to push down more when I'm driving.0 -
Aqua that sounds pretty positive. Good on that midwife for taking the time to talk it through with you. You have to be comfortable with your decision, they shouldn;t just force things on you.
Robots asked if you can feel the cord hanging out? I did when my MW started fiddling with it but not when she left it alone. Nad yes it felt very odd when I could feel it so I told her to leave it alone! It's only really like having a massive tampon string - you'll only be aware of it if someone puts traction on it or pulls it to one side so you can feel it against you.
i've been shopping this morning and am knackered. Needed to get various bits for DD's party, and for the homebirth (thank goodness for Primark! Single duvet to give birth on for just £4), and some fabric and notions for work.
Ooh! I saw Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee in Fabricland! They were buying (hideous) purple and silver fabric for the backdrop for his new show. And were very indecisive.
I'm 36 weeks today so just one week off being OK for my homebirth, and baby is very very active today. urgh... all this placenta/cord talk is making me ill. Totally disrupting my 'head-in-sand' state!0

So much to catch up on!
TCD - I'm so pleased you are feeling less anxious about a hospital birth. It's good that you are addressing it now and have MIL to help. I think the stress of worrying itself can be very hard, but hopefully you can be happy now with whatever option it ends up being.
Daisie You totally should be off work. Your pregnancy has been pretty tough with constant illness. I think teaching is very hard work, so take a few weeks again to try to relax. When does your Mat Leave officially start?
WTDN - we have ages to worry about placentas! But this conversation about delayed cord clamping has been really helpful. I will raise it if/when we ever get to birth plans.
26 weeks for me tomorrow! Making real progress. 28 weeks is my next milestone, as babies have much better healthy survival rates at that stage and it feels within touching distance now.0
