Laila I've never had a 'real' pineapple before, I either buy it in tins or already chopped in a snack pack. I've got no idea how to prepare the blimmin thing! I'm under instructions from my grandma not to go into labour this afternoon as my mum has picked up my grandparents and DS and they've all gone to my sister's house to see my neice and nephew while I have a rest, so the pineapple is safe for another day!
I just cut both ends off and then cut it into about 8 segments. There is a hard bit in the middle so I just cut a strip off where that is and then just bite it like a savage lol. You can get a special tool though that does it into rings liked the tinned stuff.0 -
Chocolate philly is AMAZING! I love it on wholemeal toast and it is a bit like cheesecake0

Pity post alert.....
Daisie, I'm with you in the hit by a bus feeling today. Had a really busy weekend and then today was the longest day ever at work. I woke feeling carp and have gone through the tired, crabbit, sore stomach, exhausted, sore back legs and feet, been frozen all day etc etc. I'm currently going through the 'I don't want to be pregnant, didn't ever want to be pregnant (not that I'd change it now) and I hate the sight of myself in the mirror' thoughts to the extent that I'm going to take down the full length mirrors and any others that I can catch sight of my body in until I'm back to 'normal'. I don't mind when I've got clothes on but just can't stand the sight of my naked self just now. Anyone else had these thoughts and feelings or is it just because I'm knackered?
Lying in bed having a good old cry now!!!
Oh, and stuff your chocolate Philly, I had full blown Nutella on my toast this morning!! Now that was FAB!!!

Having glanced at it, I'd definitely add that if you want a sling then a Baby Bjorn is the worst one to get. There are much better slings and carriers around such as the Close CAboo, stretchy wraps, mei tais, etc., whcih will be more comfortable AND last you much longer than a Bjorn will.
And my best high chair would be the Ikea Antilop as it;s both cheap AND easy to clean.
Oh, and I never used a bath thermometer, breastfeeding cushion, nappy bin, top and tail bowl, nursing chair, cot mobile, or moses basket and we managed fine so a lot of this list is definitely optional.
Thanks skintchick! Also my friend was telling me about sling libraries where you can hire them either to try out or as an alternative. Yes I thought a bath thermometer seemed excessive, along with the nappy bin and top and tail bowl. We have been given a moses basket so that's there anyway.Met DH to be 2010

my FIL thought that we wouldn't need a pram for weeks after the birth and didn't see why we needed a car seat given you apparently carry the child home in your arms these days.0 -

I think I actually managed to get about 6 hours sleep last night
We're off to a BBQ this afternoon, although looking at the weather forecast I think it might turn into a house party instead. Should be fun either way.
lilmissreading - if your inlaws aren't sure about looking after the baby then it might be best to look for an alternative, as I find looking after my own DS hard work sometimes and as they get more mobile it does get more difficult, not sure how old your inlaws are but it's very tiring for me in my mid thirties (hence why I'm the one going back to work and OH will be staying at home). I know it's their grandchild but they might find it too much. My grandparents are in their 80s and whilst they love it when I bring DS round to see them, they say they find it very tiring after a couple of hours - and that's when I'm there looking after him, I don't leave him with them as I know they wouldn't cope. That said I have a friend of the family who is in her mid seventies babysit for me sometimes and she's fine, but she does have great grandchildren around the same age as DS who she looks after a lot, so I suppose a lot depends on how used to children your inlaws are.
Also, don't worry about it being a first world problem, that's what this thread is for, if it's important to you then it's a real problem!
Hope everybody is enjoying their weekends!
Thanks for all the wardrobe advice!
Yes this is my concern. They are both in their late 60s and not in the best of health, they have been retired for years (well MIL was a SAHM so technically I suppose she still hasn't retired) and I wonder if they would prefer to be 'normal' grandparents that see their granchild for fun times like you suggest where we are around to support.
My mu on the other hand offered, has no health problems (touch wood), will be 60 next year and works in a school so well used to being busy and dealing with kids (albeit not ones this small!) She would also only be doing term time and any days that didn't suit I would take leave for and DH will do holidays. Plus she would actually be offended if I turned down help as she has had this as an idea for years! Hope it lives up to her expectations.Met DH to be 2010

My youngest brothers girlfriend asked me if i'd be eating the placenta before and that she'd give it a go as "it's dead good for you". She's welcome to it as long as she isn't frying it up near me!
Note to self- must get over placenta thing...
Oh dear you are not alone in this. DH and I appear to be equally squeamish. I keep saying I am glad it is impossible for me to get too near to the 'business end' as it were of birthing. We bought a birthing pool from a friend and just the fact that the sieve exists freaks us outMet DH to be 2010

congratulations Preggo and glimmer, enjoy your hugs.
spoke to my manager today and told her I can no longer spend my weekends throwing up and sleeping just because work is sapping all my energy. I've therefore been instructed to take wed off as a flexi day as well as tomorrow.
what really gets my goat is today was the deadline day for our work, and the head of the department turned up and then went home, because he thought he may have a gastro thing, Never actually had one though. I did have a gastro episode on Friday but was made to feel I couldn't go home because of what needed to be done by the end of today.
Got my 28 week scan tomorrow, and hopefully will be discharged from diabetic consultant. I'm also planning on asking the other consultant what they expect regarding my labour/birthing etc given that it's never been any mention of anything, and I have a horrible feeling there's assumptions being made that I'm psychic about what they have planned. Also going to tell them and the midwife on Wednesday about being both physically and mentally exhausted in the hope that one of them may suggest I take a week off sick, it's the only way I know i'll have the courage to phone in sick at work.0 -

Mrs C - DH was giving me a back rub while I was sat up (really more a shoulder rub). This used to be a warm up for DTD and I was feeling really good until a cold drop of something landed on my hand. It was my boob, leaking. Can't decide if it is being a bit turned on that did it although they do seem to leak ALL the time.
Add to that the veins (blue and varicose), enormous, pendulous bosoms that I now have to lift to moisturise my belly, skin so dry and flaky that at my drs appointment he said I should think about putting cream on it. I replied I had that morning, did it three times a day and so far I have tried everything everyon else uses on this thread in addition to the usual suspects. Nothing works and it is like a little cloud of dandruff every time i go to the loo. My constipation is back and I am farting like a trooper. The GP also thought the peculiar blotchy, mottled all over bump skin colour change was skin irritation that migh turn fungal. On learning it had been there fore 5 weeks, he revised this as just ugly skin (my words not his, he was very diplomatic this morning).
I apologised to DH for being pg and therefore needing to be a mummy (already) rather than a wife as I haven't figured out yet how to do both at the same time. Luckily he is a sweetheart about it
I feel hideous - out of clothes particularly.
Well done new mummies!!! I hope this is where it all starts to make sense for me...
Mrs TM - chocolate mousse (ie shop bought so not made with raw eggs)? On a digestive? Angel delight? Not sure of the calorie comparison.Met DH to be 2010
