I was looking at delayed clamping yesterday when mocking up birth plan. The benefits do seem to outweigh the risks. Baby has higher hb levels and increased iron supplies for first 6 months. The only 'negative' I found in the studies was that the liklihood of baby needing phototherapy for jaundice is slightly raised. The Liverpool Women's has adopted delayed clamping as standard practice where possible.

Had a read about that natural caesarean that Robots mentioned a few days ago- was really interesting so thanks for that! . They can't do it if baby is breech though which upset me a bit. Pffff.

Just popping on to say that our baby girl was born at 4am this morning. She is doing well and such a good little baby.

Skintchick - I did read up on lotus births, it's not for me (I'm with ur oh) but it is very very interesting.

Skint I didn't get past the homepage placenta picture! Lol. Nearly lost my egg custard there! :rotfl: needless to say I don't think lotus birth is for me!

My youngest brothers girlfriend asked me if i'd be eating the placenta before and that she'd give it a go as "it's dead good for you". She's welcome to it as long as she isn't frying it up near me!

Note to self- must get over placenta thing...

Thanks for the advice about slings. I like the look of the caboo as it looks pretty simple to use so hearing someone could use it after section is really useful. Watched my friend put her baby up for back carry when she was about 6 months old and it looked terrifying! Baby was made up though! i'd have ended up dropping baby- I don't think i'll ever be that dextrous! I will be getting a sling I think.... To ebay!

Morning ladies,

Hope you all had a lovely weekend.

Happy due date robots!

My maternity bag is now half packed, was in pain most of the day yesterday and whilst I knew it wasn't labour I thought it may be signs of the first stage and it did give me the push I needed to accept that the baby will be coming out at some point soon! Just got a couple more things to pop in it, but think I will have to take 2 bags as there's no room for towels! I might split them into a before and after birth bag, and just have the 2nd one brought to me when I need it. The pains died down overnight so don't think it was the early stages of labour afterall!

The BBQ yesterday turned out to be a surprise baby shower, they invited my best friend from high school and her kids (who I see regularly but not usually with that group of friends) and my sister had baked some cakes - I was naughty and had one but my blood sugar was really low beforehand. They'd bought us some lovely presents. It was a lovely afternoon and got some excellent news, my friend who has been trying for a baby for years and has been having IVF told me that it has worked on the 3rd attempt, I was so happy for her I burst into tears (still feeling emotional now). She got her BFP yesterday morning after being convinced it hadn't worked again. The sun actually came out too meaning all the kids were able to play in the garden, so a good day for all of us
