No worries Aunty-Pickle. I suspect it's down the list of what people are thinking about. I'm getting a section so I'm not even aware of the question!

LailaP the nurse did tell me that it was a 4 in 1 injection that they give in pre-school. nhs website says here: Which whooping cough vaccine will I be given?

As there is no whooping cough-only vaccine, the vaccine you'll be given also protects against polio, diphtheria and tetanus. It's called Repevax and is the same as the 4-in-1 vaccine, the pre-school booster, that's routinely given to children before they start school.

Just catching up now, you have been busy over the last week! I got this far and wanted to say a HUGE thank you. I had a bad reaction to the tetanus jab - my arm went red, extremely painful and swollen for a month when I had it before. I'm actually booked in for the whooping cough vaccine in a fortnight, and I don't think it's worth the risk of being unable to do anything for the following month!

Spain was good, but too hot!

Off to catch up with the rest of the posts now...

    hello ladies!
apologies on "barging in" on everything....
just wondered if anyone was thinking of delivering placenta naturally or getting the injection?
I'm not even pregnant (yet) and am already reading lots of stuff!

    *dons Birkenstocks*

Natural third stage for me :) I did it naturally last time too. It was really lovely. I birthed my daughter, then sat down and fed her for a bit, then about 20 minutes later stood up, wiggled my hips, and out it slid! Perfect.

I don;t see the need for the injection for a natural birth (I think a C-section is different) and it increases the risks of retained placenta as it makes your uterus clamp shut quickly.

You also have to have the cord clamped early if you have the injection, and I don;t agree with that as the blood in the placenta and cord is the baby's blood, which it needs.

Hospitals heavily push a managed third stage, though, and don;t really explain it all to women, so lots do have the injection, but for me, personally, it is not necessary. Our bodies do know what to do and they do it beautifully if left alone (apart from in some circumstances, of course).

Post 1969 on the the 12-24 week thread page 99.

    It's page 50 for me. It's this post http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=65605310&postcount=1969

Having glanced at it, I'd definitely add that if you want a sling then a Baby Bjorn is the worst one to get. There are much better slings and carriers around such as the Close CAboo, stretchy wraps, mei tais, etc., whcih will be more comfortable AND last you much longer than a Bjorn will.

And my best high chair would be the Ikea Antilop as it;s both cheap AND easy to clean.

Oh, and I never used a bath thermometer, breastfeeding cushion, nappy bin, top and tail bowl, nursing chair, cot mobile, or moses basket and we managed fine so a lot of this list is definitely optional.

  • Aunty-pickle. I have to do a bit more reading up about it but my gut is saying injection. Mainly because I have a massive revulsion for placenta. Seriously, the stuff makes me gag. The quicker it's out the better. But if I can't delay cord clamping and have injection then i'll have to deliver it naturally I suppose... *bork* :o This is presuming I have a natural birth of course! :)
  • Skint- did you have natural birth for first? I want to use a sling but not sure i'll be able to if end up with a section... Looked at the caboo and moby something or other...

pretty sure I will be having the injection too :) from what my midwife said and what I understood at my antenatal classes I don't think having the injection necessarily means you can't have delayed cord clamping. but I don't know enough about it.

Again with the choice thing. The OB I saw recently just told me I would be given an injection to deliver the placenta. I will also have an additional injection to close my womb to prevent heavy blood loss due to low haemoglobin. I was not given a choice, just told that would be how it is! I guess I should know that I have a choice with everything but they never seem to offer options....

Has anyone else had sort of a dull ache in their vagina? I assumed it normal as it feels similar to a ache I would have during menstruation but I asked my mum and she said she never had anything like it from what she remembers. Could it be an infection?

I should add the ache is internal, not external.

Yes I did because that was a homebirth too. My friend who has had two elective sections used a Close sling and didn;t have any problems. I liked my Kari-Me last time (stretchy wrap same as Moby) but this time I've got a Close as it's a bit quicker to put on and I will be doing the school run with baby so need to be quick.

Later on I used a woven wrap as they get too heavy for stretchies at about 6 months. I loved my wrap! Used it till she was 3 and have just bought two new ones (well, one new one preloved) in a smaller size for this baby as I found a size 6 a bit big for me.

    I love slings!
