Lol firey! I don;t think everyone notices them TBH. I get them from very early on, but only recently have they become painful.

I must be mad though, i'm supposed to be winding down my commitments and just took on two alteration jobs which need to be done by Thursday evening! I'm crazy! Will be working madly all week now! I do need the money though as I want my highlights and brow and lash tint doing before I give birth <vain>.

congratulations Mrs Muffin, enjoy your hugs
  • Congrats Mrs Muffin!

Aqua- thanks for saying that you didn't like pregnancy first time round. I've been feeling like a bit of a freak for not 'enjoying it'. Like feeling baby move (except at night when it hoofs me in the bladder) the rest of it is not my cup of tea!

Lemon- definitely ask questions! I think that's what threw me. Not asking questions, assuming as everything is going well that it would continue to do so and then having likely scenarios 'hit' me out of the blue. I can appreciate why they didn't tell me sooner (according to MIL they are all very surprised i've got this far with no complications- the first doctor we saw before pregnancy said first pregnancy would probably end in miscarriage by week 14/15 but it would prepare womb for future pregnancies...) as i'd have been far more stressed out of my tiny brain but at the same time it didn't half lull me into a false sense of security! :o

Had a really long, good talk with MIL before. It was really reassuring and I wish i'd done it before now! Feel a lot more relaxed about decision to go into hospital rather than stay at home. She was nice and honest with me- including saying how she had been counting off the weeks with massive surprise as she thought i'd be on bedrest by now or much worse. She talked me through all the birth options and how they can change and recoveries. It was so good. Seriously- maybe i'll sleep tonight (disclaimer: too much optimism in that last sentence there, especially seeing as i've been up since 3am...)

MrsC- hope you're feeling better. I think the combination of pregnancy hormones and the changes to our bodies is guaranteed to make us feel down. Speaking from my own view i've always looked at my body with more than a touch of disgust, always thought it was too fat, lumpy, could do better etc. for it to be changing out of my control now is something of a mindtrip!

I think I was the most ungrateful pregnant woman in history first time round. I spent the entire time moaning. The thing is, every pregnancy is different, some women do sail through it, for some it is a really horrendous experience.
In comparison to my first pregnancy I've sailed through this time (I'm high risk on several counts and I have GD but the whole pregnancy has seemed much easier than I recall the first one being), plus I have the benefit of hindsight this time. I don't think I realised how wonderful being a mum would be (despite all my moaning that DS is hard work I love him dearly, and love him more each day) and this time round I know from experience that it will all be worth it no matter how horrific it is because I know what I'm getting at the end. Also, I'm not terrified of going into labour this time, because I know even if things go wrong it will all be OK in the end.

As MrsMuffin said, once you have your baby you'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. It did take me 2 years to come round to the idea of trying for another, but in the end my love for DS won out and I decided I could do it all over again. If I'd known it wasn't going to be as bad I might have done it sooner!

I can't half ramble on! But no, you're not a freak, I'm sure there's plenty of other ladies that don't enjoy it, but maybe they are too scared to say because of all the pregnant women who tell everyone how wonderful they find being pregnant (not that there's anything wrong with that either, I'm pleased for women who have nice easy pregnancies, sadly an easy pregnancy is not the reality for everyone).
  • iv just realised with people talking about Braxton hicks that iv never even had one of those. at 40+5. this baby is doomed to stay inside forever isn't she :)

Your comment made me laugh. I always joke that DS (3) would still be inside now if he hadn't been forcibly evicted.

Hope baby makes a move soon!

I feel ready now at 38+3. I'm not at that fed up 'get out now' stage yet, I'm just excited and wanting it to happen!

I'm another one who feels pretty crap this pregnancy. Last time I sailed through but this time I feel big and fat, and knackered and ill. But I'm trying really hard to enjoy it because I've had five pregnancies which never mae it beyond first tri and I want to be grateful for being so big and heavy and pregnant, because I am really, it's just I'm also so uncomfortable.

Huge Congrstulations Mrs Muffin! And I second how reassuring it is that you are happy despite not being straightforward.

Gosh, so much chatter... I really can't think straight to comment individually.

Placenta - I'm not freaked by it... Though the mental image of the cord dangling out my bits was new! And odd! I wonder if you can feel it?!?!
    - But I still want delayed clamping so thanks for the warning / reality check!

Brixton hicks - 40wks today, not had any that I know of. Did have Implantation pains from very shortly after conception, and had a speight of engagement pains a few weeks ago, which have now returned. Even as we speak it feels like someone's jabbing a knitting needle up my bits whilst there's a searing sensation up a few inches of lower belly.

Body image - I've been all sizes, from 7.4stone with ribs showing to 13stone plus... I've collapsed stomach muscles so always had a Buddha belly... Now it flaps a bit!! Delightful! I weigh 4kg more now than at conception, I was technically obese then. 5.6ft & size 18ish. But I'm strong & fit for my size. In my sport (physical contact sport) my nickname was "booty of doom"..... So all this.... Then getting stretch marks only last week freaked me out! I thought I'd been lucky :(

As for me... Phone hasn't stopped ringing, despite me telling only a couple of people the due date! Exhausting.
Midwife visit was v short (fine) as there was a home birth going on. BP was fine! :)
.... I'm beginning to think of rebelling more & asking for the induction date to be pushed back.... Humm.... I'll def get a second opinion, I'll try from the dr who treated my appendicitis as she 'got me'.
Please forgive the badly spelt alias... I am a long time contributor who needed to reclaim anonymity for health/job related posts.

WTDN, how do you have so many scan pictures? Did she do scans for you at home? The hypnobirthinh classes are free and if it helps than why not.

Everyone is really informed about the birth and their choices. I have no idea.

Hey sorry only just seen this - one2one arranges scans at clinics instead of the hospitals and at the scan, they just print out a load and give them you.

Thanks - will deffo give them a whirl then! x
