We haven't bothered doing the nursery yet because we are turning the smaller spare bedroom into a bathroom so the bigger spare bedroom is full of wardrobes and everything!! The bathroom waa in the making a year ago though so even knowing the baby is coming for the last 7 months my OH has made zilch progress. But baby will be in with us for the first six months or so and my parents are coming round tomorrow to help OH as my mum (and I) are concerned about DIY taking place when baby is here.

I have started washing baby clothes over the past month or so, mainly cause i like putting them away :p .

I packed my hospital bag last week at almost 32 weeks. Still got a few bits to put in but mostly done.

Daisie- can you reduce your working week if you want to continue working? I agree with robots though- ignore your boss! Mine was the same (worked doing on-call and heavy lifting up until 38 weeks. Fine if you want to risk your health and babies but don't expect me to! :) )

When did everyone start doing their nurseries/ hospital bags/ washing etc? Am 28 weeks tomorrow and the nursery is currently a junk room. Have finally bought wallpaper and have all furniture but haven't done anything else.... Know baby won't be going in there for a good while but starting to run out of places to stash baby stuff! :)

I already only work part time :o I am in work 8 days a fortnight, though it is 5 days one week and 3 days the next. But very few of these are full days - most of them I am getting to work at around 7.30/8 and finishing usually by 3.

Our nursery is decorated and the carpet was put in this week. We have furniture all in boxes and hubby might start building some this weekend, but there is no rush. Only 25+1! I will probably wash clothes when we have some nice weather in August or sometime.

Ladies which is more accurate, the bump measurement that the midwife does at your check up or the estimated weight on a scan? I'm 29+1 and 2 days ago I had a scan which estimated baby at 3lb 7oz (that's 2-3 weeks infront and around the 75th centile I think) and today at my check up my bump measured 3 days behind my due date so almost spot on. Which is likely to be more accurate?

    29+1

If you're bump isn't measuring right they'd usually refer you to hospital for a growth scan so on that basis I'd say the growth scan is more accurate. However that said I've had growth scans in both pregnancies and was told DS would be average size between 7 and half and 8 and half pounds, he was born at 40+1 weighing 6lbs 7oz!
I had a growth scan on Tuesday (I was 36+4) and was told my little girl is currently weighing in at 6lbs 4oz with 3 and a half weeks to go, so it will be interesting to see how big she is when she's born. I can't imagine her being almost as big as her brother was at birth with another 3 weeks of growth to go, but I have got GD this time.
The sonographer did say the later in pregnancy you are the harder it is to gauge the weight accurately and it is just an estimate.

robots - glad you're feeling better and that your MIL has been helping you.

daisie I had a horrendous first pregnancy with illness and bleeding and continued to work throughout. But this time said to OH from the outset that if the same happened this time I was just going to call in sick as I don't think I did myself any favours by continuing to work and then I had to take maternity leave at 29 weeks for medical reasons. As it happens I've found pregnancy much easier 2nd time round, and I have had bleeding and did go to work but rang the hospital who said to come in, which I did immediately, I then went back to work next day once I was reassured baby was OK but if I thought work was making it worse I would have took time off. I didn't want to be signed off either as some days I felt fine, so I spoke with my manager and she said just to take things day by day, which is what I did.
I understand the not wanting to be signed off, as I didn't want to be either, but speaking to my manager did help as we agreeed I'd work when I felt well and if I didn't then I wouldn't come in. You can't be disciplined for sickness in pregnancy and although you may feel guilty for taking time off you need to do what you feel is best for you and your baby and if that means having one day off sick a week then so be it. The head may well have sailed through her pregnancies but every woman is different, and as I've discovered every pregnancy is different as although I wouldn't say I've sailed through this one it's been a lot easier. I managed to work until 34 weeks this time as work were understanding, which although not long compared to some women it felt like an achievement to me.
I guess what I'm saying in a long winded way is put yourself and the baby first and stay off if you need to, but if you do feel up to going in then do, as that's what I did!

Hope all the others ladies are feeling well, this heat is making me a bit uncomfortable but other than that all is well here! 37 weeks today :) There's a problem with the delivery of the car seat and it's going to be at least next week now but mothercare have put a note on the system that we can borrow one if baby comes before the carseat. I'm still to pack my hospital bag too. But I feel ready, so baby can come anytime she likes now!

Question - does anyone know whether when the baby comes runs in families? Ergh, that sounds very clumsy but I hope you know what I mean... Practically every time I speak to my mum she talks about how the women in our family have their babies early. She had two at 38 weeks and one at 37 weeks. My grandmother had one at 37 and one at 38. Apparently it is a trend through all the women on my mum's side.

I am not at all convinced that it can be linked...and trying not to think about it because I have a horror of going overdue and I just have a really strong feeling I will be very late! But my mum has it in her head that it will be 37/38 weeks so I bet those last weeks are going to just drag by if she is wrong.

I honestly don't know but I'm going to say no. My mum had us all about a week early, my sister had both of hers about a week early. I had to be induced with DS on my due date for medical reasons, but he had no intention of coming out and had to be forcibly evicted (emergency c-section). I suspect this one may come early as she's moved down already but that said I'm sure I remember thinking that with DS and that never happened!
  • Robots- not to be a pita but check if your seat has an expiry date. I've read that they have a 5 year expiry as the plastic can start to degrade. The only one's i've seen with a 10 year expiry are the new extended rear facing ones that are structurally a lot more metal than plastic. Sorry if you already knew this (or aren't bothered- not in a bad way, just more in a 'is this another ridiculous thing they tell us to freak us out/ buy more stuff kind of way! :) )...

Oh! Tea cake! You're not being a PITA, that's a scary thought but one worth having. Foam doesn't last it decays really quickly.. & plastic can get brittle. Eek.

I feel stupid I didn't think of that myself (part of my job was understanding object material decay rates! :o). or that I didn't read it.. But then as whole travel system is from them ive not done Any research or reading on them at all.

It still has it's booklet in the back, so I'll check that out.

There's a clearance place near us that had £150 chicco & other brand seats & bases down to £50, so might just send husband in to get one.

Re nursery - needless to say ours is still guest / craft / junk room! I had to stop worrying about it. Baby will be with us for months anyway. And to avoid awkward questions we just say "we are waiting till we meet baby & find out if girl or boy before we decorate" !

Ooh, I'd be curious to know too.
I'm 38+4, husband was 7 days 'late', I was 7 weeks early (preeclampsia) so that doesn't count, mum was nearly 3 weeks late But that was 70 yrs ago so dating procedures weren't as good + being snowed in meant nan couldn't see the dr for any assistance starting!

Oh many congratulations Lara!! Enjoy your little man and hope everything heals well. You queue jumper you ;) Do let us know when you have chosen a name! We have a definite first name but the middle name is still being debated!

I'm still here, been quiet as I'm trying to divert my focus from obsessing over ways of getting labour started before my induction date (I never knew labour was more painful after induction!). It's brought up a whole pile of questions I never thought about when the midwife was here the other day, about things like having my OH stay with me, if I can still use a birthing pool at least for pain relief etc (NICE guidelines for induction say you should still be able to) and it's been getting me upset with worries. I really don't think he is going to come before induction now either, it's 48 hours since my sweep and nothing has happened. So I've been doing things like making cards and sewing to relax, which is helping a little. Might toddle off for a nap now, I woke up so many times last night - needed to use the bathroom twice, woke three times through the pelvic pain of turning over, woke up once as both my hands were numb, woke up once with awful heartburn, woke up when OH got up for work etc etc! So done in....

Daisiegg try not to worry too much about work (I know, easier said than done). Pregnancy can throw up all sorts of issues and you just have to go with them and call in sick when you need to. Apart from the last 5-6 weeks, where I've suffered with a bad pelvis and incredibly horrendous heartburn, my pregnancy has been quite easy yet there were days when I still just couldn't get into work!

tcod - I did my washing about 36 weeks, maybe the week after the hospital bag was complete - that's when I had time i.e when I finished work! My aim was always to have both complete by 37 weeks.

Daisie I don't think personally that it runs in families (though me and my siblings were all late and here I am at 40+5!!). The midwife was saying the other day, nobody knows what actually sets off labour - they know it's hormonal but that's it. Same with success of pregnancy, my mum was so nervous about my pregnancy as she had 6 miscarriages and had to give birth at 21 weeks to a baby whose skull had not formed, yet I have had it fairly easy. It's just a waiting game, albeit a very frustrating one as I am finding!!

Have a good afternoon all x

    40+5 xx

Congratulations Lara! Hope things get moving for you soon Sunshine :)

Daisie, I was born 2 weeks late, DS was born 2 weeks early... so I'm saying no to the dates too, I don't think it runs in families! However I was 6lb 14oz, DS was 6 lb 14oz and my Uncle (Nan's first child) was 6lb 14oz! Of course it's probably a random co-incidence but if there really is some kind of weight pattern, DS2 should be 8lb 3oz.

GTT wasn't too bad today. I've decided I either have started liking Lucozade, or I was so hungry by then I didn't care. I got lots of cross stitch done while I was waiting to be called for the next lot of bloods. Anti-D was really sore though, I don't remember it hurting that much last time! I didn't even have to see the consultant and there's no more appointments at the hospital now :)
