has everyone that is planning on breastfeeding bought a breast pump? just suddenly had a thought that I'm planning on trying but I don't have one. the ones I've seen were really expensive. do you need one? I'm quite confused about breast feeding! I'm guessing if you ever wanted to go out for a couple of hours without your baby you would need to express? also iv read about ladies who need to express just to get some comfort if their breasts get too full? argh I'm back in worry mode. wish I could calm down a bit!
_ I inherited one from SIL but apparently they recommend you don't use electric one until 6 weeks after giving birth. Until then you can hand express best advise talk to your MW or lactation nurse they should be able to point you in the right direction.

I used a Medala swing electric pump with DS. I got one second hand on the basis that if I didn't get on with bf'ing I could sell it on for the same price! I found it worked OK but took quite a while, so it was really only used for days when I had to go into work (I only managed 8 weeks maternity leave last time). Hoping that pumping will be very occasional this time around, as I should be taking about 8 months off!

    Welcome Dinah!

    Hi ladies
Growth scan went well today. Consultant was fab & mw may have made a mistake using the tape measure.
Ketones in my urine so have to keep an eye on that.

Can I ask what you using for baby to sleep in? I had intended to use a crib in our room, then move to a cot in baby's own room but oh asked last night could we not just use the cot our room?
Can newborns go straight into the cot?

That's great news credit_crunch! I'm jealous too, I'd love to have another peek at the little one. hope everything is okay with the ketones.

We got a moses basket second hand off Gum tree that the baby will go into first, and then a cot bed from a friend. I thought moses baskets were a bit weird, but friends told us it's handy to be able to carry the baby from one part of the house to another as they are supposed to sleep in the same room as people until 6 months. I didn't quite realise that applied to naps too until recently. When exactly the baby goes into the cot bed I'm not sure... first timer here so no experience! They will be a bit big for the moses by the time they are 6 months I'd have thought? Interested to hear what other people have done :)

I'm a bit unsure about the cot thing too! baby will be sleeping in our room in a Moses basket but iv heard so many people say that their babies have grown out of them very quickly, and if that happens before 6 months, we can't fit a cot in our room so I'm not sure what we'll do then.

from googling it seems it's fine for baby to go into a cot straightaway but they should be in the room with you even for naps so you might want something for them to sleep in downstairs :) basically just what Lara said!

    Glad the scan went well.

With DD we had a cosleeper cot (this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cosatto-Close-To-Me-Cot/sim/B001A2G9ZC/2) that was a full size cot we could atke one side off, and that attached to our bed, so she was basically in with us. However, it ended up holding all the nappies, wipes, etc., while she snuggled up close to me all night.

This time we aren;t even getting it out of the loft! We will just cosleep.

DD went into her own room at 13 months, but with hindsight thaat was too early, and this time baby will stay with us longer before going into their own cot and room.

They can go into a cot from the start but the cot is very big and they are very small, and they are used to being close to you and all snuggled up so you may need to put rolled up towels/blankets at the top and bottom to make it feel smaller.

A moses basket or similar is handy for carrying them around, but DD always slept on me, often in a sling, so we didn;t have one and we managed fine.

But yes, they should be in the same room as you at all times till at least six months, to reduce the risk of SIDS. And the closer to you they are, the better, as it is contact with another person that helps them regulate their temperature and breathing.

feeling stressed! I just ordered a private gbs (group B strep) testing kit online as when I asked my midwife she said our hospital doesn't test for it routinely so I'd have to do it that way. paid my money, then tried to fill out an online registration form with my details like it said. the form wouldn't work on my phone or laptop so I rang the helpline. the lady was basically like...have you paid? well we will send you one and I'll get somebody to sort out the website. I tried telling her they wouldn't have my address etc to send it to or any of my details but she was so dismissive and like 'we'll get all that from your paypal, don't worry'. I sort of wish I hadn't bothered now.

In terms of cot / moses basket - we started with moses basket last time, then as baby grew tried to fit the cot bed into our room which made it completely crowded.

We bought a mini cot which was perfect in our room, and I'm planning to use if from the start this time. We could have probably just had this and then moved to a toddler bed once he outgrew it.

I will put the moses basket downstairs for daytime sleeps. I was told that baby may feel better being enclosed at first but to be honest it was a struggle moving from moses basket to cot so if this one gets used to cot early on it will be a bonus.

I feel very ambitious with all this talk of sleep and naps. Last baby wasn't keen on sleep till about 10 months (and would still rather avoid if possible) so I'm hoping this one feels differently!!

ema my DD isn;t much of a sleeper either. Naps were only ever 35 mins long and she dropped them all by 18 months. I'd like a sleeper this time too!

I had my whooping cough vaccination yesterday. Damn that's a big needle! My arm is not hurting though and didn't go numb like she said it might. Has anyone else had this yet? I didn;t have it last time as there wasn't the worry about whooping cough back in 2009.

I have just hoovered the house and am EXHAUSTED! Everything is so tiring now. I need to dust as well but I just don;t have the energy now - thank goodness my cleaners come soon to do all the wet cleaning. I don't think anyone will notice the dust as long as everything else is clean.

I forgot to say that I found a dress to wear for the wedding on Saturday. It's this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160970043395?var=460150853807&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 in royal blue but I'm disappointed as one of the shoulder seams has been sewn wrong and there are ripples of fabric as a result. Luckily I'm a seamstress and can sort it out, but I am cross that I'm going to have to. I have emailed the seller to ask for a replacement to be sent but I think I'm cutting it fine now unless they deal with it today. Wish I'd ordered it last week now but it never occurred to me that it would come faulty.
