Hi ladies, may I join you please? I've never been on the big bump thread before, DD was born 12 weeks early, and I was in and out of hospital for weeks before hand, so my week in 3rd trimester was spent largely feeling like I was on the verge of consciousness last time. So far this pregnancy is going better, still having issues with high blood pressure and at high risk of developing pre-e and delivering early again, but all being well I'm due with my little man on 28th August.

has everyone that is planning on breastfeeding bought a breast pump? just suddenly had a thought that I'm planning on trying but I don't have one. the ones I've seen were really expensive. do you need one? I'm quite confused about breast feeding! I'm guessing if you ever wanted to go out for a couple of hours without your baby you would need to express? also iv read about ladies who need to express just to get some comfort if their breasts get too full? argh I'm back in worry mode. wish I could calm down a bit!

    Still in lurking mode :)

Im breast feeding and have got a breast pump - haven't used it yet. With my DDs (previous) I used it from about 3/4 weeks so you could just see if breast feeding works for you and then invest a couple of weeks after birth?? x Ive got a Medela Swing - which is fab from memory :)

thank you :) do you have to get electric is manual a waste of time? just seen this http://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplay0_10751_-1_84610_10001 on kiddicare it's half price at £15 but I'm thinking there's a reason for this! I think I will definitely wait to see if I get into it or not.

Hello Dinah  hope you get to stay here with us threadies for weeks yet.

    Hi Lemontree and welcome too!

Firey - a friend gave me a manual pump, otherwise I was holding off buying one to see what happened. My sisters took to bfing brilliantly but friends have really struggled, some choosing to express and therefore buying snazzy electric double pumps, and others going for ff. If bf works out for me, I'd like to express so that my OH can help with feeding, but read online it's better to wait until around 6 weeks, so seems like lots of time to figure it all out.

Skinty - that bag is gorgeous :)

Bluebell - you must be so excited that the building work is getting there - hope it's not too stressful.

Good luck with your revision and exam Sunshine - big respect to you for doing it at this stage of pregnancy. Hope you ace it :) Is it the last piece of work you have to do? I hope you can get some nice time off afterwards.

Sounds like you had a lovely day out Aqua, I can't wait to start maternity leave!

I'm planning on breast feeding, but would like to express after a little while. Going to wait and see if it all works out once baby is here though, would hate to waste money on a pump if we end up using formula!

Fab bargain skintchick! Lovely to see that your doula is going to help again, that must give you some reassurance.

Firey – I have bought the Philips Avent manual breast pump for £24 (I used the mothercare app, rented a TENS machine at the same time and therefore got to use the £10 off a £50 spend when you buy via the app for the first time). The tommee tippee one does look like a good deal but I (perhaps incorrectly) recall the reviews being poor so went for the Avent one. I have spent an eternity umming and aahing over the electric pumps this past month or two, watching them on fleabay etc but in the end decided on a cheap one given that I don't know yet how much I'll need to use it. I'm planning to bf and express so OH can do some feeds, thinking I can always buy a dearer one if the cheap option doesn't work or I'm using it more than it can handle.

Dinah93 welcome! I'll add you to the thread later, lovely to see another in team blue! Hoping the rest of your pregnancy doesn't end up as stressful as your last one sounded.

Lara, the midwife who ran the antenatal class said the same as you have read online re expressing, she said to wait until the baby is 4-6 weeks before letting OH give feeds in a bottle otherwise the baby tries both, finds bottle feeding easier and stops wanting the breast altogether. Thanks, they're letting me take the exam at home so that's one thing. After that I have an essay to write that's due on the 16th June! I'll get there, I signed myself up to do various courses just before getting my BFP so I'll just have to suck it up :) my concentration is so poor though, I need to revise so badly but I'm in the middle of a massive cross stitch and I just want to do that instead!

12 days to due date! Decided yesterday I would start trying out the old wives tales about getting baby moving as I really don't want to end up overdue and giving birth to a 10lb baby! So OH finally got his own way IYKWIM ;), I had a bit of a bounce on a birthing ball and started the raspberry leaf tablets. Not sure if any of it works but I did seem to have a load of Braxton Hicks in relatively quick succession last night, and bump has definitely dropped and I can feel him (or something) pushing downwards! Reality is setting in!!

I haven't. I have never expressed and I exclusively BF my DD till 6 months then continued feeding her alongside solids.

It's not recommended to express for the first six weeks as it interferes with building up your supply, so there is no rush to get a pump.

If breasts get very full you can hand express a little off for comfort, but not too much as boobs work on supply and demand so the more you take out the more they will make.

Different women get on with different methods (hand, hand pump, electric pump) and different pumps, so if possible try some before you invest in one.

There are more benefits to you and baby if you feed direct from the breast, too, because of the skin to skin contact which helps with emotions, antibodies, and other things.

    Hi

I think it's time for me to join! _ hey congrats and welcom

I am 26 +4 today. I can't believe how far along I have suddenly become. Edd is 27th August, and we are waiting for a surprise. We have a pink name and a blue name picked ready.

I have had problems with my lower back for years, and I bought a full length pillow (8.99 in lidl plus 2.99 for a pillow case) yesterday, and this is the first morning in a long while I have woken up feeling refreshed. Massive thanks to my mum for pointing out lidl has them on offer this week. I had been thinking about buying one, but was reluctant to spend too much, thinking I only need it for a few months. However, I could see me using it going forward after the baby arrives when my back is not feeling great.

We are in decorating hell at the moment- what started as giving a lick of paint to the nursery has turned into a full house decorating job- we are working to a deadline of the baby arriving, so it is hard work. We seem to have a lot of house! _ Our house still half done living room hoping OH gets it finished soon or I'll get the step ladder out again something he hates me doing!

We have bought a pushchair and car carrier so far, and have been lent a moses basket and stand- I just need to pick up a mattress at some point._ Our is over 2 weeks late and if Leith pram centre don't pull their finger put we will be asking for a full refund!- collected on Friday

I have a glucose tolerance test booked in a couple of weeks time- I have a very strong family history of type 1 diabetes, and my mum is already starting to fret about how frequently I need to pee. Actually,
i feel fine myself, but it will be good to get it checked out. _Had one 2 weeks ago owing to a little too much aneotic fluid nearly threw up with the sugary drink thank god I didn't or they would had to repeat it! Good luck a take good books mag anything to amuse yourself it takes about 2 hours and me and bump were going stir crazy by the end of it!

sorry to hear you're having a difficult time scotsbride, can the doctor not refer you for physio?_ The doctor actually seemed slightly drunk to me! and was more concerned with the welfare of her dogs and that of my grand parents! as they're neighbours! It eased now thank to me using hot cold therapy and doing exercises as listed in the what to expect when you're expecting book! needless to say I won't be seeing that doctor again or letting her anywhere near my child!

Hi ladies, hoping I can join. I'm 26 weeks and due 24th august and we are team yellow. I've been reading a while and have taken the plunge in posting.
I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself as have had a nasty bout of gastroenteritis which is not much fun while pregnant, I had to take myself to the Hospital so they could check little Flipper wasn't planning on coming out early. Hooked up to all the monitors put the frighteners on but baby is all ok. So I'm reading while curled in bed trying to keep a rice cake down.

Hope everyone is well. Thank for reading
Hoping you make a speedy recovery
