hi all - it was very scary but verything's great now - she's just finished a 40 minute feed! my husband told me to get some rest today so me and Lyra snuggled up for a feed, then afterwards she was grabbing for me and I held her little hands, then rubbed noses with her and she loved it!

I've barely put her down and feel very close to her, I've done all her nappy changes and everything's been fine, I'm so pleased!

lushlifesaver I'm aware of the books but I've never read them, I'm not really sure where I came across the name but I just said it when we were coming up with names and we both liked it.

A few weeks later we went to the national space centre and saw a big map of the stars and constellations, we both saw that there was a constellation of stars called Lyra and we just both looked at it and smiled so we pretty much decided on it there and then. I really like it, it's unusual and pretty and it really suits her :)

purcy can you get some diabetic chocolate?

Lara so glad to hear your risk assessment went well!

    Aww congrats Mary! Sounds lovely.

AFM - does anyone know how many braxton hicks it is OK to have? I read four in a hour is the max, but what if you get a couple an hour every hour for ages? Worrying about premature labour now.

Apologies for my continued absence! Work and things just seem to get in the way! I have been reading a fair bit!

Big congratulations to stsarina and vickyvics!

Skintchick, hope things have settled for you!

Firey, I have got cellular blankets for the moses basket and the cot when they eventually go into it.

Mary, what a dramatic entrance into the world! Glad you and Lyra are doing well!

Can't believe I am number 12 on the list now! Thank you to Sunshine for updating the lists!

Baby is being very awkward and is breech and not showing any signs of moving! Have another scan and consultant appointment tomorrow, so hopefully will know more then but it is looking like they could be making a bit of an early entrance into the world via a elective section. Exciting and terrifying all in one go! Sorry if I queue jump anyone!

Congratulations Mary on the birth of Lyra :j xx

I still feel not very far along so it is strange on this thread when ladies are giving birth!! (Jealous!!):)

I am having a meeting tomorrow at work about handing over my work. I am completely prepared at home just feels weird starting to prepare at work...

Good luck to the ladies who are due :)
  • Welcome to all the ladies who have recently joined the thread.

Congratulations on the arrival of Constance stsarina.

Congratulations on the arrival of Olivia VickyVics, hope she is doing well now she is home.

Congratulations on the arrival of Lyra Mary, sounds like a very dramatic birth, glad she's OK now and that you are bonding.

Sorry you're not feeling well with the gestational diabetes MrsMuffin. Hope the scan went well today. I was a total chocoholic and cakeaholic before being diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I'm on 4 metformin a day, but still having a high reading once a day despite my best efforts but there's no pattern to it so the hospital are ringing me back next week so see if I need to take insulin on top, without a pattern to the highs they're not sure insulin will work so I'm not sure what they'll do in that case. The possible complications are very worrying but I just keep telling myself the hospital have to run through the worst case scenario just in case, however small the risk that they could happen. My hospital keep stressing that if baby appears to stop moving I must go straight in as there's a risk the placenta could come away, which had me worried, but luckily baby is very active and I've only had to go in for a trace once.
Hope you're coping OK with your gestational diabetes too purcy.

Hope the bleeding has stopped for good now skintchick, it must be very worring for you. I'm not sure how many braxton hicks you can go up to an hour before ringing in, but when I saw the consultant last week he said it was normal to be having them quite often at this stage.

Good luck to all the ladies due in the next few days! Hope those of you with kids at home for half term are coping OK.

Can't believe I'm number 19 on the list already - was 40 something when I joined! On a countdown to Friday when I finish work, then only 6 weeks to go as I'll be induced on due date if baby hasn't come naturally or had to be delivered early because of the gestational diabetes. Still not bought a moses basket, or new car seat, or newborn nappies etc. I booked a days holiday today and we did go round a few shops and looked at a few things but we still haven't decided on anything!

hope they manage to sort out your GD soon aquamarine monkey. at least they are keeping a close eye on you :)

    it's quiet on here today!

started packing my hospital bag today, i kept putting it off for some reason, it makes it seem real! when I was packing her a little hat and pair of scratch mittens in the bag it made me really emotional because they're so small, argh it's scary. anybody got any must have things I might have forgotten that's not on the usual lists? I remember it being discussed a while ago and somebody said a jug for water or something but I can't remember why!

    hope everyone's well :)

    36 weeks today x

Argh I have been trying to get stuff together too, Fiery. For some reason it's proving a nightmare to get things like maternity pads! Better get on the case tomorrow.
