Thanks glimmerofhope. Have been lying down with hips propped up on pillows, tried all the upside downy ones but they did not mix well with heartburn and lots of blood going to my head!

VickyVics - I was glad when I found out what it was too, though don't think I would mind missing out on the Braxton Hicks pain!

    Hi Everyone.

Sorry not been on in a while we moved last week and dont have any internet yet and I dont get 3G so typing this from work.

Just a quick question, ive been in agony in my pelvis the last few days and spoke to a midwife at work (im a nurse so have that luxery) and she diagnosed me with SPD. Its something to do with the pelvis not being in the correct position or something. I was wondering if anyone else has had this and any tips? Im fine sitting down but as soon as I get up or walk about im in so much pain. She told me to self refer to physio and they can provide me with a belt but im yet to hear back from them.

Hope everyones ok and when we get internet later this week I will try to properly catch up.

    Hi Disney,

I feel your pain (quite literally!). I have SPD too - according to my GP and midwife. Sometimes it's really very sore and I cannot stand/walk. I was also advised to self-refer for physio but every time I called it was engaged or there was no answer. Since then it does seem to have got better on its own.
Things I've found that help me - but it might be different for you:
Moving position. So if standing for a while - sit, and if sitting for a while - stand.
Exercise ball (I borrowed from a friend) - which I can swivel about on.
Not walking about too much in one go - Shopping for maternity/baby things in town causes me lots of trouble and I have to sit down often, but thankfully my job's pretty sedentary so I can usually manage it. Might be more difficult for a nurse!
My hips do get very sore at night, and I'm usually up 3-4 times just for a walk about but the walking about does help when I lie back down.

I'm 31 weeks now so think I'll probably just tough it out.

Hope you get some relief soon!

Hey disney pluto funnily enough I've got my first physio for SPD tomorrow so I totally get what you mean about the pain! Keep hounding the physio though as my midwife said the sooner you start the better, I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow and if it helps.

I had my first appointment for gestational diabetes today which seemed to go OK. Did my first solo blood glucose test about 30 mins ago and ended up having to jab myself about 5 times to get a decent amount of blood lol. At least I'm no longer scared of using the lancet! Will hopefully learn a bit more on Thursday as I have a scan and an appointment with the obstetrician, at least I get another peek at my girl I suppose!

    Hugs to all

Moonbabe - sounds like you are having a similar experience to my last pregnancy with DD2. She was breech and I had growth scans throughout... - all was well. She turned at 37.5 weeks and was born at 6lb10 a few days overdue :) I did all of the exercises to get baby to move including going for moxibustion - acupuncture!! In the end she just moved when she wanted too....

Had a good midwife apt yesterday - so pleased my iron levels are back up to 11 so I can go to the birth centre :) Baby has dropped into the pelvis and although I am still measuring 3 weeks behind- I am assured all is ok and 'moving in the right direction'. Could tell s/he had dropped as my hips are very painful and lower back is v sore now if I walk for a while. Midwife told me off for not packing my hospital bag! So I had to have an emergency shopping trip to Boots to get the necessary. Weather is nice here today - so am going to wash/dry the baby clothes at last and generally motivate myself.

last night I woke up at 2am with the worst cramp in my leg ever. it was absolutely killing me! my OH was stretching the muscle for me (I can't reach over my bump!) and massaging the back of my leg but it went on for ages, a good 15 minutes. it just wouldn't stop! I ended up sobbing, I was desparate for a wee and thought I was going to wet myself cos I couldn't get up cos it was hurting so much.

I'm feeling so negative today, I never thought I had a low pain threshold I'm usually quite tough so if I can't even have cramp in my leg how am I going to cope with labour?! at my antenatal class the other day the midwife said 'labour doesn't hurt. it's just strong cramp, but in your stomach' well cramp really freaking hurts! please tell me it's not just me :-/

on another note has anybody bought a birthing ball thing? If so which one?
