  • Congratulations to any new mummies/families I may have missed!

And welcome to the new joiners :)

Ah! How did I get to 24 on the list? Scary!

I've got a cold :( <- feeling sorry for myself. Unusually for me this is the first I've had since last year, so I shouldn't complain. I'm just scarred it'll turn into the nasty virus a few friends have had. After a kind(bossy?!) friend told me I can Only have paracetamol I texted my midwife & thank heavens simple linctus & bronchial cough syrup is fine :)

I'm back in the barely slept last club, mostly as I kept waking thinking it was morning & I should put washing on! If we had a washing machine with a timer function I'd have just got up & done it!

NSD - I love the name Seth! To me it sounds strong, old fashioned but in a good way and quite romantic.
I also think Elijah sounds lovely with Issac.

    Morning ladies,

I really need to get my bum moving. The most active I have been is going into the kitchen to fetch a bowl of cereal and that was about an hour ago. I'm still in my dressing gown!!! I really need to get my bum moving...it just doesn't seem to want to do it! Not really got too much planned for this morning, apart from a quick tidy up. Then this afternoon I am meeting up with my mum for coffee, so a pretty chilled out day really.

NDG - I happen to like all of those name choices, even Daniel. Although I think Elijah is my favourite. There is just something about it that just clicks with me I think. Plus being a teacher I have a list as long as my arm of names I cannot use because I have known someone with that name...I have never known an Elijah, so it is safe for me. I have no idea if that even makes sense lol. xxx

and?! there's nothing wrong with having a bit of a chillax before your coffee date this afternoon - enjoy some "me" time! :)

I know what you mean re associating names with your students, I've heard that's quite common for teachers. x

Enjoy your chilled day! Looking forward to this time next week, my first day of maternity leave (well annual leave that immediately precedes maternity leave). That said, I have already written a list of jobs that I need to do!

I get the whole teacher thing and name association, I remember a few years back I worked in a nursery and I still remember the kids that were naughty and don't want to use their names! Now I work in a mental health inpatient unit and I can't use any of their names either lol!

We are down to two names now, I keep calling little HB both names alternately to see which suits when I say it. It's such a massive decision! Last night I was saying that one name sounds cute as a little boys name, but the other is better for when he is a teenager, if our kid is a bit of a geek at high school then one name may put him into the total geek section while the other might just save him from that ha! I'm being totally overanalytical but can't help it the responsibility is massive!!! x

I was on this thread a year ago (due last June!) - my little one is now nearly 11 months - exciting times for you all! If anyone on the off chance has a spare moment - would they be able to vote for my little girl (Rosa - pink spotty tights on a swing) at http://babyonboard.britax.co.uk/en/competitions/baby-competition (you also have to click on the email link they send you too otherwise the vote doesn't count!). It might also be of interest to you all once you little ones arrive as you get entered into a competition just for voting to win a car seat organiser and also if you submit a pic - you could win a car seat of your choice if you get the most votes!

Thank you in advance to anyone who votes for us! And good luck to all those with impending births - enjoy your first year - it is simply magical! x p.s. I had the same problem as some of you guys what with being a teacher LOL!!! Good luck on the name front!!!!

  • Can I vent please? Feel free to skip.

Gah! Mum has just hung up on me because I've decided to listen to NHS advice re guidelines to avoid SIDS!!!

I'd only answered the phone to find out re meeting time for seeing my great aunt tomorrow; I'd been having a coughing fit so told her I wouldn't be chatty. She used this as an excuse to jump on me :(

I'd asked her previously for the dimensions of the 'family crib', so I could see if the bars are deemed safe (legs getting stuck etc), she said they weren't, but that she'd get me cot bumpers to stop baby falling through. I said I wasn't keen due to bumpers bring associated with cot death... Her reply was that I'm foolish to listen to "some website" instead of her and thousand of years of mothering! I told her the NHS isn't just a website & that there are less cot deaths now than before... I didn't even get to tell her bumpers haven't been around for thousands of years before she hung up on me!

I know you can get breathable bumpers, but I'm not keen on spending out for something that'll only last a few weeks - it's an old fashioned swing crib.

We'd had this conversation a few months back, when she just wanted them as they are pretty. Nice to learn now that she doesn't respect my choices.

Oh & I've had her on constant call back since about 10mins before starting to type this. Why would I call her in the future? And I still don't know what time to go to my great aunts for!

aw Robots that sucks - if you don't want to have bumpers you don't have to!

why don't you let your mum buy some to keep her quiet, then you can just sell them on and pocket the cash lol!

did you find out what time you're meeting your aunty?

I notice everything's all quiet from NDG - maybe her sweep worked?! :j

well now I feel stupid lol! I was just thinking of names that sounded nice together - can't believe I didn't consider the religious aspect! sorry, I didn't mean any offence!

"Arsey! is hilarious! reminds me of the parents who called their son Drew Peacock and didn't realise the joke until after he'd been registered, it was in the news a few years ago.

We named Dylan when I was about five months gone before, I really hate people referring to babies as "it" and having his name helped us develop a bond with him.

I've found the same this time too, except Dylan has pretty much told everyone he meets that his little sister is called "X" so it's not much of a secret anymore lol!

You weren't being remotely stupid! After all, Isaac and Ishmail were brothers in the Old Testament. OH and I aren't religious particularly anyway, in our respective ways (I was brought up Anglican, religious boarding school, the whole 9 yards, he's Jewish).

If you want secrets kept - Dylan was probably not the best person to tell.....

    Hope you feel better soon!

I like Elijah, but we used to have a cat called that. I'm not sure of the wisdom of naming your secondborn son after your dead cat.

Saves your Mum having to ring you today to ask how you are, then!

My mother was a teacher, too, at girls' schools, and said having three daughters was something of a strain on name-choosing for exactly the same reason you give!

Sadly not - didn't quite get to the sweep stage. The midwife said the good news was that his head's pressing hard down in the right place, my cervix is short and soft and things therefore look promising for a VBAC, but that it was too far back and she couldn't actually do the sweep. So I'm going back on Monday.
