it's probably the structure of being in chambers that keeps you effiecient. at home you're probably so tired from being on your feet all day (and probably doing work at home too) that it's easy to let it go to pot.

one of my friends has suggested that my hind waters may have broken as I'm so leaky - has anyone heard of this? I can't believe that I have been through two whole pregnancies and still be learning new things about pregnancy!

I also have no emotional attachment to VAT records, receipts, and work papers, so it's much easier to sort them out. But it's not just tiredness, I'm also just lazy!

I'm pretty leaky downstairs, too, I think it could well be increased discharge? Have you tried putting on a pad to see what colour it is?
Issues with my mum come & go... sadly they never seem to resolve.

<hugs> I'm really sorry to hear that. It must be awful to have those sorts of issues with your own mother. But your discussion with Mary about how you can both use those experiences to create a completely different family strikes me as really true for you. My Granny grew up in a "one parent family before they were invented" as she put it, because her father pushed off when she was a toddler, she saw him once a year to embarrass new clothes for her and her sister out of him (he wouldn't pay maintenance) and she never saw him again after she turned 15.

Her mother resented the fact she looked like her father, and took it out on her a lot.

She turned into an absolutely wonderful mother (and grandmother) and created a family that was lovely, relaxed and loving. You and Mary can both do the same.

My hind waters broke but Chloe was so engaged there was a bubble of waters bulging by her head. I was dripping and the smell was sweet but with a hint of semen type smell I really can't explain it but sometimes it can smell of nothing.

Get it checked out. If your hind waters have broken baby needs to be evicted. Hence why I went into Hospital. After the bulge above her head was cleared she arrived.

So odd that I am not pregnant anymore but so good to have her here in my arms.

I thought this was me a couple of weeks ago. I rang the midwife, who told me to ring the labour ward, who told me to come in. They asked me to put on a maternity sanitary towel for a couple of hours. If it was soaking it is likely to be waters and if its just damp then its most likely just watery discharge/slight urine leak. They took the towel and tested it, took a urine sample to look for protein and just for good measure gave me a speculum. The midwife also checked heartbeat and gave us a quick scan to see if there were any noticeable leaks.

They were really good and reassuring and I would say if you do think it could be leaking put a maternity towel on first and see how wet it gets. If you get quite wet ring labour ward. They will most certainly ask about the wetness on the pad.

    Hope that helps xxx

Re your other comment re Waters going & bacterial infection risk, I'm guessing that 1/100 risk is for the population as a whole?
Personally I'd be happy to accept that risk if I knew I was Not carrier of group B Strep (GBS for the lady that asked), as that does increase the risk of infection. 1/4 women carry the bacteria, but there is No routine testing the England, & even if u test your results can change by the time u deliver.... Gah! It's so tricky!
Yes that would be a population risk I'd imagine. You can get tested for Strep B nearer the time by your surgery nurse - I did that last time. If you ask the family planning nurse they should be able to do it for you.

If not you can buy your own test and do it near the time. http://gbss.org.uk/what-is-gbs/testing-for-gbs/ecm-test-where-how/

You can ask the GBS chairty for advice and help.

hi - thanks for the tips! I'm dry as a bone now (sorry for tmi!) so I think it must have been a lot of discharge, it was runny but not watery if that makes sense?

With Dylan when my waters broke it was literally running down my legs like water, it wasn't like that yesterday but was trickly. Either way it's stopped now, so looks like I'm safe for another day lol!

Robots I had a bit of cry earlier with my OH and told him that I'm still worried about changing her nappies and seeing/touching her little tuppy and stuff - he understands and keeps saying that nothing like what happened to me will happen to her and that we will be able to protect her. I know he's right, but I'm still aphrehensive.

I just keep thinking "I am not my mother. I am not my stepmother. I won't let anyone hurt her".

I keep touching her clothes and toys to feel closer to her - I find being able to visualise her being here is helping and her car seat is in the car now (although it's currently being occupied by a plush Simba toy) so I'm really hoping that once she's here everything will slot into place.

I wouldn't say I'm completely confident now, but I'm definetly feeling like I will be able to care for her and that's what I was very afraid of when I first found out, so there's some progress at least.

Samtoby I know what you mean! you wait ages to meet the baby, then when they arrive it's strange to not be pregnant anymore! how is she getting on? x

Morning all, just sat in the garden watching ds play as nice and sunny here.

When I was pregnant with DS,we had a couple of sessions with a private midwife. She gave us two really useful tips that I thought I would share.

We spoke about pain relief and how sometimes the hospitals are very quick to give it; she recommended if I really wanted it to have an agreement with OH that I would ask three times in quick succession so the mw and him knew the pain was at the point I couldn't go on.

The other one was that your birthing partner is your eyes and ears in the delivery suite as you will be busy having a baby. She said to watch for whispered conversation, facial expressions etc between the staff and to question what is happening. We didn't need this but some friends did and when the husband noticed the whispering people in/out he asked what was happening and the baby was distressed and needed delivering asap.

    Good morning ladies,

I have spent this morning in the office with DH as it is only down the road from my hairdressers where I have an appointment this afternoon. It seemed like the easiest way of getting there, especially as I have work to do anyway (I usually work from home part time).

I still have a week to go until my due date and already I have getting fed up of the daily phone calls and messages asking me when my LO will be arriving. I wish I knew!!! I have been getting lower back pain and sometimes some small cramps (like period pain) low in my bump but it seems to just come and go. They aren't on or off like contractions but more of a constant ache It's like its happening to just put my hopes up that it might turn into something only for them to be dashed a little while later. I haven't had a show that I have noticed so I don't know whats happening really. Is there anyone else in the lists that is experiencing or has experienced this?

I keep getting that too, Vicky, and I did with Isaac. I think constant irritating enquirers are just something we have to live with at the moment!

I've had slight cramps too the last 10 days or so, and a bit of an ache, and nothing else. Baby seems quite happy where he is for the moment.

I have a sweep booked on Friday to encourage him to get moving for a VBAC, though. Not had one before.
