Our midwives don't listen to the heartbeat at all unless there are any concerns. I had to ask for mine to be done and all other times I'd heard it was when I'd borrowed a friends Doppler!
I went in for monitoring last week and that was the first time I'd heard heartbeat in about 18 weeks so it was lovely!!0 -
I haven't heard the heartbeats at any appointment, have seen them beating away on screen though. At my 36wk scan you could also see their stomachs contracting, apparently it's them practising using the muscles they'll need to breathe.
Lush - i'm very impressed with the amount you're doing! I'm being exceptionally lazy and leaving lots for the OH to do!
That's a bit crazy if you're that far along! How did your midwife know the baby was ok at your appts? That sounds pretty cool to see.
In my notes there is a space for the heart beat rate, next to my blood pressure, urine test, fundal height etc
I'm the same, I'm way too tired to do much! DH cleaned most of the kitchen today & just left me the easy bits!0 -

Wow maybe it's just the way they operate in some areas then? Just seems weird as it's such an easy thing to check I mean you're already lying down in the right position etc
Seems to be a post code lottery like most of the nhs!0 -
The heartbeat was checked before & after my Amnio at 15 weeks, then by midwife at 17 weeks for the first time... But she said it was normal to not bother until 24 weeks but since I'd had the Amnio they'd do it.Please forgive the badly spelt alias... Eek! Hope no one minds a little one from the less than 12 weeks thread delurking for a second but I just wanted to say laura I am so excited to see you posting...I was wondering where you had gone! How lovely that you are having a girl
I still think it would be lovely if she came in your wedding anniversary
(In case anyone was wondering why I am acting like a weird stalker, I remember laura from the wedding planning boards last year - we got married at the same place)
Ok, re-lurking! Sorry to interrupt your thread
*waves* I have no idea where the last 15 or so weeks have gone, you'll be here before you know it! Working so late was a bit of a crazy idea with the commute into London that I have so time has completely flown past!
H is adamant he doesn't want her to arrive on our anniversary (so I think he's kind of tempting fate there!), she's due 3 days after so it's pretty close. In an ideal world she'll be a bit early and then I can enjoy a few glasses of bubbles to celebrate!
Can't believe this time last year we were so close the weddings (I'm a bit jealous at how amazing the weather has been over this last week or so, it definitely wasn't like this last year!). Hope all is going well with your pregnancy Daisy, so excited for you! It might not feel it now, but it really will fly past and you'll have your feet up on maternity leave in no time at all! x0 -
Thank you ladies,
Feeling much better about my size. Got DH to take me to Mothercare tonight and treated myself to a changing bag. Actually went to get some Lansinoh cream as it is 7.99 instead of the 10.49 it was in boots and tesco!!!! Plus we got a few other bits and pieces that DH just couldn't seem to put down xxx0 -

Your size is totally normal, 3cm above or below is considered to be in the normal range and it's not exactly accurate always anyway. I also get measured pretty differently by the gps and my midwife! I've had a growth scan which showed the baby was a normal size as I was measuring 3cm under and I think she was worried incase it dropped anymore.0 -
Its definitely cm not inches! 34 inches is nearly a meter!! Wouldnt want to be carrying about a bump that big!
Seriously though, it's only an estimate! A few of us have been measured too small, had growth scans and everything is normal sized. So dont worry vickyvics, if the midwife is concerned she'll send you for growth scan.
You are claire are both entirely right, I was off on one with inches instead of cm! Sorry for any confusion :wall::wall::wall:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Either that or you're sporting one hell of a bump :rotfl:0 -
Hi goppers, congratulations and hope everything goes well for you this time!
I didn't hear the heartbeat until about 27 weeks, as another poster said it just seems to be a bit random depending on your area. I went back to have my bloods done, the midwife did it twice and still couldn't get anything so now I have to go back a third time!
We had my friend's two girls stay over at the weekend and it was very fun, but very tiring! The baby was the easiest tomlook after, she was very snuggly and giggled a lot, I got used to changing her and by the end I didn't feel weird touching the "minnie" which is something I was worried about. The elder kids were a nightmare, they wouldn't go to sleep and I had to tell them off when they were still running round at midnight!
Then the next day we took them all to the park, then we made pizzas for lunch. It was really fun, but we did get some funny looks with two 5 year olds, a one year old and a huge baby bump pmsl!0
