Is renewing a passport ok or likely to raise questions?

I am in receipt of ESA support group and DLA higher rate mobility/middle care.

My passport expired a few years back and I have not renewed it however I am now thinking of renewing for 2 reasons

a) I am often asked to provide photo id and I can't drive, a few problems have arisen due to this

b) In light of the vote for Scottish Independence

I'm just a bit nervous that it may look 'odd'

I'm I worrying about nothing?

No. I renew mine when needs be, as it is a form of ID anyway.

Plus, there is nothing stopping anyone on DLA or ESA going abroad for a holiday.

There is if it brings into doubt any of the reasons accepted by the DWP when awarding ESA (Support group) + DLA HRM & MRC.

Just make sure you use the Official passport site and not one of the many copycat sites that charge a heavy premium for their 'service'.

It could also be seen as the intention to have a foreign holiday and the poster may well be claiming that he/she never leaves the house.

OP please ignore this and don't worry. I am unable to drive anymore, so can't have a photo driving licence. I do exactly what you have done to enable me to have photo ID. I'm on HRM and MRC disability and NOBODY has ever questioned why I need a passport if my mobility is poor.

Well, as ever, I have been abroad, with help from airports etc., and never had a single problem with the DWP...

Plus, as I no longer can drive, I use it for ID.

Most disabled people can leave their house, at times, providing they have someone with them, and, if holidaying, have arranged appropriate assistance from airlines etc.,

    Please don't feed this troll.

    This is nonsense.

Anyone claiming DLA and who is in the support group is "allowed" to go on holiday

Holidays are considered beneficial and can improve health and noone claiming these benefits would have them taken away if the receipient decides to go abroad once a year.

You post is irresponsible. Your words could worry someone to the extent of cancelling a much needed respite, to which they are entitled, even if part of their award comes from a claim of not being able to leave the house.

My driving licence is the old green paper variety with no photo. Besides which it is still registered to an address that I last lived at in 1998 - moved 3 times since - oooopps! So that is no good for ID.

My passport ran out over 10 years ago, so that doesn't help.

I simply take 3 documents to prove who I am and where I live instead of wasting £100 or so for a new passport. Can't travel out of the UK, so don't need a passport.
