£300 for a hen 'do', another £300 for wedding outfit, travel, overnight stay, another £xxx for a wedding present = the thick end of a thousand quid. It's mental.

Id never spend £300 quid on a wedding outfit. If someone I knew was getting married Id wear something I already have.

Im lucky in the respect that everyone Ive ever known who has got married has had a hen night and wedding in the town I live in or surrounding towns and its not cost that much to get there, but there is absolutely no way, if I ever had to fork out £300 for an hen weekend, that Id be forking out £300 for an outfit.

And even if the hen night was cheap, I still wouldnt be paying £300 for an outfit. I wouldnt spend £300 on an outfit to wear any other time, theres absolutely no way Id do that just because someone I knew was getting married.

I appreciate the point you are making, some people clearly would, but I wouldnt.

you go to some other town so you don't run into a load of people you know when drunk off your trolley - the hen doesn't want word getting back to her fiance if she snogs someone does she?

    Does that happen?! :eek::eek:

My friends cousin shagged someone else on her hen night. 3 kids and 15 years later and he still doesnt know. She also had a fling with one of her cousins husbands pals prior to the wedding.

I think you've missed the point by a mile. £300 quid in total for an outfit AND travel AND an overnight stay can easily happen, and add a bit more if accompanied by a plus one.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Booking a £100 weekend away doesn't sound at all OTT. Assuming you agreed to " a weekend away" then £100 per person is very cheap.

Okay, you have to travel there (but would have to travel if she had it in her home town i think) and food would cost the same either option (and if a cottage, it could well be cheap with big group meals and one trip to a supermarket).

There was consultation on the date, and the idea of renting a cottage somewhere was mentioned. I just expected a "we are thinking of this place, what do you think message?" rather than a booking. I'm not sure what's actually been paid - probably only a deposit.

It does sound as if there was a little more consultation than your originally suggested.

I suppose a cottage is a relatively cheap option compared with an upmarket hotel. Maybe you are an exception as you have a bit further to travel. Some food and booze in the cottage will be hugely cheaper than eating out for the whole weekend.

I do agree that an email before booking would have been a good idea but as it didn't happen they run the risk of some not going and the cost per head rising a bit.

As with similar threads, you have the option of saying no.

I'm off to a wedding later (evening invitation). I've decided not to buy anything new as I didn't see anything I liked better than the stuff I've got. We've chosen to stay over at hotel (£100 for room) and give bride and groom a gift (£100 JL vouchers) plus a 2 hour journey. That's our choice. When the invitation came we could have simply said no.

I dont think Ive missed the point by a mile. Your post doesnt make clear that the £300 cost included travel and overnight stay as well.

You know what you meant when you typed it but it wasnt clear to me when I was reading it.

But thanks for pointing out how I got it wrong. Appreciated.

I was another who read it as £300 for an outfit, but it covered the rest then understand that also. Although your £xxx must be a fab gift to make it near a thousand
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
  • Ok Pollycat! :rotfl:

Jeez, I'm almost frightened to write anything else incase that gets taken out of context too....:(

Ok, basically to sum it up, my badly worded second post was meant to convey what balletshoes put in her post (only she worded it much better lol!)

I think we should resume normal service now, before this thread descends into an even bigger farce than it has already turned into.

Jeez poor you, you could practically see the wolves surround you Georgiagirl!

Not really a biggie, if you don't want to go, just don't go!
