We've gone for a hammock rather than a moses basket for night time sleeping but we're planning on using the carry cot of our travel system for naps during the day, once she outgrows these she's being transferred to the cot in her own room (in theory) but I guess we'll just play it by ear!

I've seen the hammocks online - they look so cute!

As for the nursing chair, for me I think the main use will be night feeds. I'd need to go into the baby's room anyway if it needs nappy changes, and I plan to feed in there a bit if I can at night, so as to avoid disturbing hubby as much as possible. I know people have different schools of thought on that but for us, he still has to get up at 5am and work 12 or 13 hour days whether the baby has been up all night or not, so I do want to minimise disruption to his sleep. Realistically we know of course he will be disturbed but at least if I have somewhere other than the bed that is comfortable to go and feed he can try and go back to sleep. Don't want to be going downstairs to the sofa which would involve disabling the burglar alarm, and it would be really cold down there in the middle of the night etc. Also we thought it would be nice to have something to sit down on in the baby's room ready for bedtime story etc (which we intend to do pretty much from the start!) and, when it is older, for sitting on while it plays one the floor or whatever. Obviously, each to their own, and it is not something you NEED, but we are lucky that we have the space for it, can afford it and think it would make life a bit nicer, so why not? :)
  • I agree Daisie we all have different priorities on what to spend our money on. I'm not getting a chair however we are buying an expensive pram. As long as the baby is well looked after, clean clothes and fed etc it doesn't really matter.

This is the pram we bought. It's got really good ratings and John Lewis were brilliant. They did a demonstration of it and allowed us to try it in the car. Also went through all the car seat options with us without any pressure to buy.

Does anyone know if there will be another Asda baby event before August? Wondering if it's too early to get some nappies and wipes etc?

Yes my family are all over the moon, I think that's another reason we are being spoilt! This is also why OH doesn't want me to work, he's worried I'll exert myself or bump into something or get over tired!
I'm not complaining, five months off over summer will be lovely. I've a huge craft room I'm going to busy myself in and I plan to sell all our junk in the loft on ebay. Knowing I don't have to go back Is like a huge weight lifted gong my shoulders and now I just want to stay healthy and happy :)

Whoever sent the link online4baby thank you! It looks brilliant! I'm now sat browsing more prams!
  • Loving all the shopping chat ladies as I for one am totally overwhelmed by the choices!!

All we've bought so far is a monitor from the asda baby event as it was half price. Think we've chosen main things though like travel system, car seat and nursery furniture - no plans to buy until after 20wk scan though which is 3wks away.

Other than that I'm not entirely sure what else we need?! Guessing that's the big things covered though...?

They told us that they would get us replacement parts even when out of warranty just we may have to pay. But you get two years which is good. I've always found JL really helpful. What other prams are you thinking about?

After I posted earlier I couldn't go back to sleep for ages (it was inly 5am here) because I was lying in bed freaking out about the fact that I don't know how to pick up a new born baby! I have held tiny babies before but only ever whilst sitting down and having been handed them. How do you pick it up whilst supporting its head and without dropping it?!

This is the kind of thing that plagues me when I should be sleeping.....I think I am going mental!!!

I think I have done it before. You just slide one hand under the head and neck, and the other under the body and lift it up. They are quite light.

You reminded me of this thing I saw on dragons den. http://www.boots.com/en/Snugglebundl-Baby-Lifting-Blanket-Funky-Spots_1423946/. It's really just a padded blanket with handles, but means you can pick up and more importantly put down a sleeping baby without waking it. Plus I get the odd backache so it's supposed to be much better for you when lifting.
