T2d, from what I could see a crib is pretty much the same size as a Moses basket. But a Moses basket is cheaper and will be easier to move around but of course it won't butt up to the side of the bed.

    How is your recovery?

    Wtdn, are you feeling better?

Yikes seeing myself at the top of the updated list was a shock!! This is actually happening!!

I'm starting to get scared that I dont know anything about looking after a baby yet. Seeing my midwife on Wednesday for 24 week appointment who I haven't seen since 12 weeks, seems so long ago! I'm sure she said then that at this appointment she will give me the details of antenatal courses.

Baby doesn't seem to be kicking as much the last couple of days, still there but not as hard or often. Doing a lot of shuffling tonight but no big kicks.

I like seeing what everyone else has bought and plan to do, makes me feel more normal about panicking about the little stuff!

We haven't bought anything at all yet. The only thing we have is a changing bag which was a present and some freebies that I've been collecting.

We are going to be moving house soon, when they finally give us a date so seems silly to buy stuff before then. I REALLY want to buy things though so I am beginning to get impatient!

daisiegg I had my 16 week appointment on Tuesday and the MW asked if I felt movement. I do but not every day and she said that this point that is quite normal. Hopefully that gives you a bit of reassurance, but I still panic if I don't feel it anyway :rotfl:

Re nursing chairs, we already have the ikea poang chair and footstool so I'll be using that. I plan on recovering the cushions and, possibly, will paint the wood white.

I have a Poang chair that I was using when recovering from the op, and I find it gives me backache after a while for some reason. It could do temporarily, but I wasn't too impressed in the last few weeks.
we have a habebe nursing chair, dh fell asleep in it this evening!

    Hmm.. that does look nice.

It's too hard to decide! I suppose I will wait until we can see some. Anyone have any advice on good big places to go to see things near West London? Happy to drive somewhere, but the local places are always such small collections.

Recovery is excellent, a good trial run for the c-section later. Actually the pain on getting in and out of bed is why I like the idea of those bedside cots. It would just be much easier to just roll over and get the baby. Mind you the problems getting up only last about 10 days really.

I've had one scan post-op and the baby and the TAC look good. Another checkup next week, where I am sure I will get a whole new set of conflicting advice!! But I try to roll with the punches when every doctor I see tells me different things. The last few years has taught me that every medical professional you see will say contradictory things, each with absolute confidence!

I'm the opposite. I could fall a sleep in a poang chair. And me sleeping does not happen easily.

From the amount I normally go to the toilet in the middle of the night I know I would find maneuvering around a cot a pain. But the thought of getting out of bed in the winter is not appealing either.

THANK YOU - to hear that a mw has said that has really reassured me :)

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
    Good morning all.
I think the reason my family are being so generous is I was off work almost 8 months last year, I had a car accident and then some bother at work, I left and enjoyed Xmas off and started my new job in feb, as most of you know my line manager has been horrendous since I told her I'm pg so I'm off sick but my OH wants me to give up work for now. I'm high risk, as I've so many medical problems and he just wants baby to be safe. This means our monthly income will drop by about £1400!!!!
I've never glad to really worry about not having money, we've both always worked so it's a bit of a shock to the system.

Ok this might sound stupid but what is a nursing chair and can't you just do it on the bed or sofa? :)

I'm with you Monty, I'll just be using whatever I already have to sit on with a couple of pillows or cushions. Everyone has their own thoughts and to me a nursing chair is like a Moses basket sitting like an ornament in the living room, an unnecessary expense. None of my family or friends have ever used either. I'm only using the family crib beside my bed for what will hopefully know be a few weeks because my dad insists that all the grand kids use it, otherwise it would be straight into the big cot beside my bed or even straight into own room which isn't a million miles away with the pram used for daytime sleeping.

You can use the bed or sofa. At night when the baby is in its own room I want somewhere to sit for feeds and then he/she can go back in the cot to sleep. Plus there's enough space in the room. I only plan on having the cot, a small chest of drawers, the chair and stool and there's already a built-in wardrobe above the stairs. My friend is going to give us a lot of her old baby items so they'll have to be stored in there as well.

I've been told it's a lot easier not to heat formula and keep it at room temperature. Then you don't have to mess around with getting the temperature right - especially in the middle of the night.

  • Monty-doggy - if it wasn't £12 and a mere 5 mile drive from my work to pick it up I might not have bothered either but glad I did. We are lucky to have the space for it. I fancied something with arms and something that rocked for myself.

I've got to remember there's not right answer or definitive list with all this baby stuff - what suits one family doesn't suit another and I imagine what suits one baby doesn't suit another.

This is the thing about an October baby - if it's a hot summer I am going to sweat like a piggy-wiggy and then when all being well, it hopefully turns up, it'll be cold in the night, dark and rainy for going out. Boo. If only you got to plan it...or I lived somewhere sunnier!

Ah monty-doggy - they are still being awful? Sorry to hear that but relieved that you are off sick and hopefully looking after yourself. So good to hear that OH is supportive as well as your family. I admire those people who are single or single parents. Really made me realise how hard it is to go it alone, as I am finding it tough as a fit, healthy woman with a lovely DH, no other children and a full time job I love! Aren't they all extra excited as you were told this was going to be unlikely to happen by the doctors? Imagine it makes it extra special for all of you.
