It's nice to have a surprise Milly - we did with DS1 (although I was convinced he was a boy. I really want to find out this time (DH doesn't) - I really would like a little girl - I know you dont get to choose but....

I think it helps that neither me nor OH have a preference. We will be so happy either way so we don't feel the need to know now. I think because I know I cant have a say on the gender there is no point in having a preference. I would hate to be disappointed when I have a lovely baby to be happy about.

OH always wanted a boy but now I have a niece and a nephew he really enjoys them both and now says he would love to have either. Niece is older so he enjoys her a lot more at the moment and finds the nephew a bit boring which I think has helped him not to care either way.

None of the rest of the family mind either, especially as my sister has one of each and it will be the first Grandchild on OHs side.

I do think its harder not to have a preference on your second as mots people would like one of each!

(apart from my dad who was adamant he didn't want boys and that's what he got!)

Everyone thinks we will have two girls so we would be shocked if it is a boy but happy at the same time. DH has 7 Nieces and no nephews so there is definitely a trend for girls in the family. If it is a boy I can buy lots of new clothes which is exciting :).

In our family there are a lot more girls. Out of my cousins there are 12 girls and 2 boys and if you look at their child (second cousins) there are 8 more girls to 4 more boys.

There have been guessed from people saying both boy and girl but I think majority have said girl.
  • we're hoping to stay Team Yellow tomorrow at our scan. On my side of the family we have 5 nieces and 1 nephew and OH has 3 nephews! We honestly don't mind either way.

One of my nieces said on Sunday that she thinks it's a boy! (don't know if that's because she wants it to be a boy!) :p

I have my post-op review after my scan so I will be asking if I will still be needing a c-section or will be able to have a vaginal birth.

  • Hi all,

I am still struggling a bit after falling last week. I went to my GP yesterday as I still had pain in my upper abdomen were I fell and she said I have bruised or cracked my ribs so it's just a case of 6 weeks to heal with paracetamol and a heat pad when required! It's very sore and tender but I really feared I would have damaged the little one so I'm trying not to grumble and will take things a lot slower now.

Welcome georgie262 sorry to hear you were struggling. I have no other children and I am waaaay behind in my housekeeping, I lack energy and motivation and I haven't cooked a proper meal in weeks! I think those of you with other children to look after deserve a medal!

Princess Kate when we first started TTC we earmarked Leo as our potential boys name, as it was DH middle name and his maternal grandfathers name. Then his cousin had a boy and named him Leo; we were gutted! 2 years on we have only met Leo once so really we probably could use it, but it just doesn't feel right as the two grandmas are sisters so it's a bit close to home. However if it was a casual acquaintance and not a family member, I would consider still using it.

We then settled on Joel but my sister in law (who had a baby last week) chose 'Jobe' if she was having a boy. As she was having her baby first, if it had been a boy we'd have had to go back to the drawing board, but she had a girl, so Joel is still on the table - just 18 more weeks for someone else to poach it :)

This week we have started looking into the world of prams / travel systems /car seats... goodness what choice there is!! A really helpful Mothercare staff member went through the basics with us but I was so overwhelmed! And you can also spend ALOT of money if you want to! We are looking to buy after Christmas so ideally I'd like to choose now and then keep an eye for offers.

And finally I was a happy lady yesterday... a lady serving me in a shop asked when the baby was due... I have been waiting for someone who didn't already know I was pregnant to recognise I was and acknowledge it - I must have crossed the border from looking a bit porky into looking pregnant now I am 22 weeks :)
