  • Hi everyone, welcome newbies :) hope everyone is,well today.just got, back from dentist so feeling very sorry for myself.think bump has cottoned on and is currently trying to escape or just take my mind off feeling ill lol either way it's comforting :) with regards to buggies I have no idea where to start! We originally had a budget of £200 for one incl car seat but a visit from my dad saw him offering to buy it for us upto £400 so we've got a whole load of other options now and it's so confusing! Carrycots seem to be very popular as part of the packages but as we live above a shop I'm not sure how much use we would get out of one especially as we already have a Moses basket as I'm gonna have to lift everything up and down 3 flights of stairs so think car seat and baby carrier is gonna be the best option.im having the problem wih looking for cot beds! Were having a cot bed coz it'll last longer but so many out there and then what mattress do you get? I'm sure il have it figured out soon but it's so overwhelming! downhillfast my friend has an altea and they get more in hers than in her husbands grande punto so it looks to be a very baby friendly car! I no what I'm part ex-ing my ka for :) xxx
    Debt free finally :j

There's definitely a lot of space in it considering it isn't a huge car. A brilliant feature that I forgot to mention is that the rear seats in it are on runners (like front seats) so you can slide them forward to create even more room in the boot for all of those baby accessories really easily.

Princess kate I know what you mean about being given the matb1 form. After I officially applied for mat leave my work then immediately advertised my cover post, which I thought was way too early but after working out the dates and time it takes to recruit someone it's pretty much bang on! Terrifying!

wendz just wanted to say congrats on your graduation to this thread, I remember you from earlier in the year on a previous thread x

Trixsie we went for a cotbed in the end from babies r us which had a really good deal on the cotbed and the mattress.. I think we got the spring duo airflow mattress from them but at half the price of what it is now but they are still doing a good deal on the package i think.

As for car talk! DH and I have a car each, I drive a VW polo and he has a honda civic. My polo is only 3 doors but the pram just fits in the boot (took a massive risk on buying the pram without trying it in the car first!). Everyone says that I will end up getting a 5 door car but I am determined to stick it out! Can't really "swap" cars as DH is in his a lot for work and is 6'6" so polo a bit small and uncomfortable. When we go out at the weekends we'll be in his mostly anyway :) We have isofix in both cars.

Im such an indecisive person im so glad I don't need to worry about cots, car seats and prams etc for the moment.

My sister is giving me all her stuff. I'll get a new mattress and bedding for cot and mosses basket. I'll have to get a new car seat and pushchair when they grow out of the first size one (which I've been told is around 9 months ish).

Just seems mad to have to spend £400 on stuff that lasts them 6-9months. My sister's looks near brand new.

I have started looking at a pushchair for after that point (a year in advanced I know) but im just keeping an eye out on local ebay and gumtree adverts for any bargains. I think I want a Maclaren one.

But until then, I have no major purchases to think about.

My mum said she will get the cot bedding for me and I just need to choose. I may wait untill after baby is born for that or go for a gender neutral one before hand.
  • Hi Sulphate :) just wondered - as your car only has three doors do you intend to put baby in the front seat or the back? I'm a fellow three door car owner! They say the back is safer but it will be awkward with no back doors and some people have said to me you just end up putting baby in front seat anyway so you can see them and talk to them easier! At least if you have isofix you can get one of those bases and you don't have to faff about with the seat belt and just clip the seat in instead. Although I think you can get bases that you for with the seat belt?! I have a maxi cosi car seat already. Need to research bases more!

Welcome to downhill fast and wendz! Never heard of the altea but it's one on my list to research now!

Danielley, sorry I forgot to mention you yesterday but I hope you're feeling a bit better today! X

Hi Tilly, I have no idea and I guess that might be the most awkward thing. We were actually given a familyfix base so will be using that for the back seat (although we might have to get another as don't want to keep faffing around transferring between cars). Don't know how difficult it will be to keep transferring car seat with lack of back doors. Will have to wait and see I guess! To be fair, the amount of times I go out in my car with baby by myself will probably be pretty minimal, when we do go out in the car it will mostly be with DH in his car. We can walk into town, to the shops, children's centre and GP etc so I plan on making good use of the pram instead.

Ha I just read that back, that probably sounds totally unrealistic!

    Thanks for the welcome :).

We will be reusing our daughters travel system but would choose something more lightweight if I was buying a new one as hers was quite chunky.
  • I booked my parent craft classes today & the breastfeeding class, all in March, the birth preparation ones are on 3 wednesday afternoons so will need to get hubby to sort leave for that! Bit annoying but just how it is. I am also looking to book Daisy Birthing classes, think they're done countrywide. It's another birth prep class but includes yoga and relaxation techniques which can be used during delivery to keep you calm and focused. Worth a go! I was looking at the classes in March but as it's a 6 week course that's going to be too late for me, I am getting the feeling time is going to fly by now!

Has anyone else thought of any classes they're going to do? Anyone planning on doing NCT?

:rotfl: good luck with the calm and focused !!
  • Thats what I thought when I typed it!! A few friends have done it & said without it they wouldn't have had the positive birthing experience they had. I do believe a lot of it is believing you can do it and giving you the confidence to deal with it all. My 1 friend was terrified of giving birth from the moment she found out she was pregnant, having 9 months to work yourself up about what has to happen is never going to be a good thing.
