  • Aww Kate that sounds amazing! I don't think you live anywhere near me but where did you go? Just wondered if it's somewhere that's part of a chain. Was it in 3d/4d or 2d? You've made me really want to book a private scan now!
  • That's fantastic Princess Kate!!! :j

  • Oh how wonderful Princess K, how reassuring!!
  • I'm in Cardiff, was CRGW which was where I had my clomid treatment. They are fantastic there! It was a 2d scan but she put it on to 3d for us to see although the pictures were not that good but she still printed a few for us. Let us film some of the scan too so we could show our parents the baby moving round. Could even see the placenta pulsating with the blood flowing through it! Bonkers!
  • Princess - your scan sounds amazing! I've been having little wobbles and up until I read your lovely experience I was feeling ok to wait until my 20 week scan, but now I want to see my baby again before then! I've just seen there's a few appointments for 2 weeks time, which gives me 2 weeks to wait for a reassurance scan (£59) then another 2 weeks for the NHS one - already that sounds better to me! Plus next week we're on holiday so that will just fly by :) Hmm, I'll have to convince hubby, although I'm sure that won't take a lot.

On the same topic of scans - did anyone watch the Panorama programme on the other week called 'Born Asleep'? I started to but OH didn't want to so we changed channel, but I heard from a few other people who watched it that apparently having an extra scan (I think 32 weeks was the suggested time) could spot placenta problems and reduce the amount of stillbirths by 50%. I think I will try to catch up on iPlayer now as I want to find out more, but this makes me want to have extra scans even more now.

In other news, its one week today until my holiday! I'm so excited, although I am curious about one thing... Jacuzzis! Our room has a bath with Jacuzzi jets and there is also a Jacuzzi in a spa we are able to use. I've read that as pregnant ladies we aren't allowed to use them, or the saunas or steam rooms for that matter, but I'm wondering why as I've seen two conflicting arguments. One is that your get too hot - either over-heating you and causing you to go dizzy, making you likely to pass out or injure yourself, or by over-heating baby's amniotic fluid which can have harmful effects. Or it is because the bubbles have adverse effects, something to do with air going up and being trapped :o - I have never heard of this before! Just wondering what you ladies know/have heard reasons why, or have you had a Jacuzzi despite the advice? FYI I'm not planning to risk a Jacuzzi for the sake of my baby's health (there's so many other things I'm not allowed, one more won't hurt :p) but rather I'm interested in finding out more as to why they are not allowed :)

    Hi missymoo
I would have thought jacuzzis come under the same sort of thing as hot-tubs. I've always understood that they aren't suitable for pregnant ladies and young children because of the potential for overheating/dehydrating etc. Never heard the bubbles theory!!!!
I guess if the temperature was only around 36 then it would be ok for short periods of time? It would just be like a warm bath then! Would be a bit wary of the jets though!!

  • Missymoo, I think it's because of over heating but if you have the jets off it's ok? Maybe do a bit of reading, shame not to use it if its ok but don't want to do any harm!

I totally get what you mean about the scans, it just seems like such a long time to wait & during a point you don't know what is going on. The difference with having a nhs scan to private is the nhs one is to only check everything is ok and to confirm your dates, a private scan is being done for our reassurance, I got about 20 picture, was able to film the scan, hear the heartbeat and was shown every single part of my developing baby. No comparison at all & I'd tell anyone to go for it!

I didn't watch that programme but someone in work mentioned it to me but a few people kind of stopped her talking to me about it! That is quite interesting tho & I might try to find it on demand to watch again or read about what it found. I've heard about "count the kicks" which later in pregnancy can show if there may be a problem but if a later scan can show this its certainly worth the money to have it done privately.

Although the 20 week scan seemed ages away after my first NHS scan, it's come around so quickly and is tomorrow! But my NHS scan was at 14 weeks so I only had 6 to wait. I think after this one I get a scan every 4 weeks but we're thinking about having one of those fancy 4D ones too. Are they worth it? Does anyone know if you can do them properly with twins?

Can I join you... I will be 12 weeks this week with my lmp edd of 07.05 but I'm still waiting on my scan date so will have a more accurate idea then. This is my second pregnancy and my son will be 2 in December.

Did anyone else have to wait forever for a scan date? I had my booking in nearly 2 weeks ago so would of thought I would have received it by now. Any ideas who to call, mw or ultrasound department?
