  • Hi ladies, been a bit AWOL recently, been reading and lurking but not posting. I've had a really uneasy feeling that something was gonna go wrong with baby, don't know what but just haven't been feeling right. Had a 16 week appointment today with the MW and we were able to hear the heartbeat which was SO reassuring so keeping my fingers x'd that everything is indeed ok. I'm probably being a paranoid pansy but haven't been able to shake the feeling :/

I feel the same, I don't know if I can wait the 5 and a bit weeks until my 20 week scan! OH just thinks I'm being paranoid (which I probably am) but before I went on antibiotics for my infection I had a gentle pulling, achey feeling in my pelvis which was reassuring to me, but I haven't felt anything for a few days now.

I'm considering buying a Doppler but I don't know if that's a good idea or not :o It may just cause me more worry. Have any of you ladies got one?

    Evening all :)

I feel like I haven't been on here for ages so I hope you're all ok?

I had my maternity medicine clinic last Wednesday which was just a quick check of blood pressure and urine, then asking how I am. Lots of waiting around at that clinic so I was glad to be discharged from that.

I saw my midwife on Thursday and she didn't even bother to check urine and blood pressure as I'd had them done the day before so we just had a chat about how I'm feeling. Not seeing her again til 25 weeks, so just before Christmas, which seems like ages away!

Then I had a scan with my consultant today (at 16+2) and all looks well. Unfortunately baby had its legs crossed in the way so she couldn't say if it'sa boy or girl, but I was kind of expecting that for some reason so not disappointed.

I know exactly what you mean Always Alone about feeling anxious. After saying last time I thought I was feeling movement every day I'dn ot felt anything I could be sure was movement over the weekend. I was really worried going to the scan this afternoon that it was going to be bad news :( thankfully everything looks fine but I can't wait til I'm feeling definate strong movements on a regular basis for more reassurance.

My consultant put my 20 week scan back to 17th November when I'll be 21 weeks so she can get a better look (pretty sure this is because I'm overweight but she was too polite to say!). That's five weeks away so I'm tempted to book a private scan for somewhere in the middle!

I'm sure something weird happens to time in pregnancy, it definately passes as the weeks do go by, but particularly slowly when you're waiting for appointments.

We've been in London for the weekend as DH did the half marathon, so I'm feeling a bit tired and achey, but it's the closing date for the promotion I'm applying for on Wednesday so I need to get on with that!

Sorry, this has turned into a long waffle all about me :) hope you're allfeeling ok though x

    Hi Missy Moo :)

I haven't got one and personally I wouldn't get one as I've asked my consultant and midwife about them before and they've both said that they don't recommend that pregnant ladies have them. I think the worry is that either you find your own heartbeat and are reassured when there are other signs you should be looking for, movement in particular beyond 20-24 weeks, or that you don't find a heartbeat as you're not using it properly and cause yourself unnecessary anxiety. That said I think lots of ladies on Baby Centre use them!
  • It's such a worrying time Always Alone isn't it? I think until you have a proper bump & can feel baby moving regularly it's so easy to wonder is everything ok? We're having another scan (private) on saturday, when I'll be 15+3 so hoping for better pictures than our NHS 12 week one & another chance to check everything is ok. I've been quite good as I've tried to stop worrying as much or at least thinking about it but it is hard. Glad you got to hear babies haeartbeat at your appointment, must be so reassuring!

Thanks ladies, I'm glad (well not glad but you know what I mean) that I'm not the only one who's such a worry wart! Think you've hit the nail on the head Princess Kate, still no bump and I get the odd flutter but then nothing for days which makes me panic even more! I'm sure I wasn't like this with ds!! I think it doesn't help they people say I dint look pregnant at all never mind 4 mths gone!

I'm not overly keen on the idea of a Doppler tbh I think I'd worry even more if I couldn't find the heartbeat and my MW said this morning that at 16 weeks it can be difficult even for professionals to find it if baby is being naughty.

Roll on my rolls turning into bump and baby kicking my organs out!!
  • Missy I'm the same as you, I've already had 3 scans & now have another on saturday but I just need the reassurance, even tho it was technically hubby's idea as I've been trying really hard to put the worry out of my mind! It is a long time to wait from 12 weeks to 20 to know everything is ok, especially as you probably won't feel definate movements until around then.

I've read about doplers and as tempting as it is, the idea of not being able to find the heartbeat myself & the worry that would cause has made me decide I wouldn't get one.

Does the midwife always try to detect the babes heartbeat at your 16 weeks appointment? I really hope so! I've got that appointment next weeks, the week after I have my blood test for Down's screening, I'e been doing a bit of reading and this is the nay test they offer in wales but only has a 75% detection rate whereas the scan which is done as standard in England, not sure about Scotland, is 90% accurate. Guess we'll just wait & see what the result comes back at & go from there.

Think a lot of use have reached the limbo stage between booking and 20 weeks scan & feeling movements, we all seem to have the same worries & fears but I think this is just the start of the lifetime of worry that parenthood brings!

It will probably cause more worry than it's worth honestly. I'm borrowing one from one of the other MSE mums, but it's only for bonding and entertainment, never for reassurance. I've only ever found the heartbeat once, for a few seconds, but then again, even at 19 weeks, the midwife was having to chase baby around my tummy with her doppler to get a reading! We have a very squirmy baby. :rotfl:

I can hear baby kicking on mine now, but I'm 21 weeks (today! :j).

Oh, the only reason I'm up this early: woke up with a tummy ache, needed to poo. Baby decides to wake up and start kicking me, hard while I'm poo'ing, which makes me feel really sick. Ended up coming downstairs to eat half of a banana and take an anti-sickness tablet (which make me drunk, so sorry for any misspellings!). This pregnancy malarkey is crazy isn't it?

    Morning ladies.

I'm wondering if I am now getting too big for how far along I am. I'm 17weeks (twins) and just feel like I am growing almost daily. I'm sure it's cause I'm brewing two but I seem to be bigger than friends were at this stage. I don't seem to be adding weight anywhere else (such as thighs, butt, etc) but I certainly don't want to be putting on too much either.

Hope you all have a lovely Monday.

I've been tracking my weight for a while so can share my figures with you; might be useful as we are both having twins? No idea what is classed as "normal" gain for twins, but at the start I was concerned that I wasn't putting on any weight and now it seems to be increasing daily! I don't think mine is going on bum or thighs either; it's mainly bump. I do seem to have a bigger bump than other people I know with single pregnancies at around the same stage.

    Here are my numbers:

Up until 13 weeks I weighed the same as before pregnancy: 56.2 kg (8 stone 12).

    14 weeks - 57.2 kg (9 stone) 2 pounds increase (total 2 pounds)
    15 weeks - 57.9 kg (9 stone 2) 2 pound increase (total 4 pounds)
    16 weeks - 58.6 kg (9 stone 3) 1 pound increase (total 5 pounds)
    17 weeks - 59.3 kg (9 stone 5) 2 pounds increase (total 7 pounds)
    18 weeks - 60 kg (9 stone 6) 1 pound increase (total 8 pounds)
    19 weeks - 61.4 kg (9 stone 9) 3 pounds increase (total 11 pounds)

So it looks like I tend to put on around 2 pounds per week on average.
  • No idea if this is any good?

I found it the other day.
If anything, it does indicate the (potential) steady progression of weight gain.

Ooh, I've just come back from seeing the midwife (finally managed to get blood taken for the quad test!) and I was weighed as 74kg. I was 73kg at my very first appointment (7 weeks) and not sure what I was pre-pregnancy so I was pleased with that as I was expecting to have put on loads, especially the rate at which I've been eating :o I look like I've put on more than 1kg too! But then I just typed it my info into the calculator and it shows that at week 15 expected weight gain is 1.0 - 2.7kg so I'm bang on the lower end. I'll have to keep a closer eye on my weight though as I don't want it to drop below the suggested amount, although if I weighed less than 73kg pre-pregnancy I would be further in the middle of the band. My recommended weight at 40 weeks should be 79.8 - 84.3kg.

    Interesting link Aunty, thank you!
  • really pleased for you missymoo! :)

Sadly, I am still 5.5kg less than my pre-pregnancy weight. The weight that I had put on over the last couple of weeks I have lost again after a bad few days (in terms of sickness) I'm 14 weeks today. Quite disheartening. :(

They were trying to give me ideas at work but I'm still not interested in food. One said "can't you just snack on chocolate" - ugh, yuck! (never thought I'd say that!!!!) :rotfl:
