Wendz86 it's on the 16th so 10 more sleeps lol and yes DH does have his moments.

lemontree I went out with an Italian for 10 years until I broke it off. Same thing though they would speak Italian in front of me so I wouldn't understand and his Nonna even tried to give him another girls number in front of me just cos she was Italian too. Unfortunately Mama is the one to rule the roost and all I could suggest was possibly learning Italian so at least you'd know what was being said.

Good luck as they're not easy to get on with xx

thanks alioops, hardest thing is OH doesn't want to visit them because of how horrible she is about everyone and everything, so I have to make him visit otherwise it's even worse for me, yet I'm made to feel so unwelcome. Guess I'm one up on the current daughter though whose been told not to darken her door again, as she's never said that to me. Probably knows I would be happy for that situation and she'd never see either OH or myself. Infact maybe I should answer her back when she starts so I get told that - nah that's just not who I am, she may hate me but it's her home, she's older than me and it's not respectful.

Lemon, that's a hard situation to be in. My grandmother was not easy to be around but unfortunately they're family and there's no way you can win. I imagine asking them to speak in English would not go down well. Would your OH translate for you or, like Ali said, teach you Italian?

Everyone will know she b1tches about them like she does about you and that's her character.

Someone on MSE has this signature: 'A positive attitude may not solve all your problems; but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort'. It's always made me smile and I think about it when I'm around difficult people.

Hi everyone, sorry for not being around for a bit. Had a bit of a tummy bug and have been feeling sorry for myself, but on the mend now.

T2D your boss sounds lovely and very understanding. So glad you're able to slow down a bit and work from home, I find working at home so much less stressful as you don't have the constant phone calls, people appearing at your desk wanting stuff etc, and if you're exhausted you can just have a wee nap :)

Lemontree your MIL sounds horrendous but (without wanting to sound xenophobic because I'm honestly not) I have heard similar stories about Italian MILs from other people, that they can be very controlling. At the very least she should be speaking English when you're in her company, if she speaks it fluently. I would say that it's really your husband's place to sort her out but if he hates confrontation that's probably not going to happen. No advice really but sending a hug :)

Peonie I love that quote, going to remember it. I wish I could use it in my email signature at work.

TCD totally agree about the trades vs uni thing. My husband went to uni and earns not very much in a job totally unrelated to his degree. I have a professional qualification and membership (hoping to be chartered soon) and earn a lot less than I imagine our builder does, for example. I used to work in a hairdressers. The girl who owns the shop has built her own fabulous house, has a very high end car which is changed regularly, and lots of nice things (not that I begrudge her, not at all, she works hard and is lovely). I live in an ex-council terraced house and drive an 04 reg Almera, perhaps I should have stuck at the hairdressing :rotfl:

Re nursing bras whoever mentioned them, I am still in my old bras and haven't bought any new ones yet, I've been putting it off. My b00bs aren't huge yet but they are definitely getting bigger and my ribcage is bigger so I don't think I'll be able to put it off much longer. I am just looking fatter and fatter without having much actual bump, I just seem to be spreading out, so the least I can do is stop my b00bies from bursting out of the bra and making myself look even fatter

Had a bit of a surprise last night (a nice one). My husband's grandma, who we adored, passed away last October. Before she died, she found out that my SIL was pregnant and declared that she was to have £500 towards a pram. MIL is very big on all her children (including those of us who married in) being treated exactly the same, so when my other SIL and her son had a baby in May they gave them £500 for a pram, and are doing the same for us. :o I was so happy, but it set me off thinking about Grandma and I bawled for about ten minutes on the phone before I could continue talking to her! She also said that they are giving £1,000 when the baby is born that we can either use to buy stuff it needs, or put away for its future. I will be investing it and adding to it over the years. Lucky me to have nice in laws.

Then had more good news this morning when I found out I'd passed my last exam (in fact I thrashed it, even though I left 20 minutes early due to morning sickness).

I'm a June baby and it never did me any harm academically, I was always in the top set and have never failed an exam in my life, but I do tend to coast along doing the bare minimum rather than throwing myself into stuff. Everyone keeps telling me I'm lucky to have a November baby for that reason as they'll be one of the oldest in the class.

No idea when I'll get to hear the heartbeat, my next midwife appointment is at 17 weeks (currently 15) so maybe then if I'm lucky. I still have no date for my 20 week scan as apparently the computer systems in the hospital aren't working and they are only booking a week ahead of themselves, mine won't be till week beginning 7 July. I just want it in the diary so I can book meetings etc, I know they have to give you time off and nobody would argue with that but it's flipping inconsiderate to make everyone else rearrange stuff around me and have to cancel/rebook train tickets etc

Oh yes and after that long ramble I forgot to say, I'm going to an NCT Nearly New sale tomorrow morning. Any tips for stuff to look out for? I don't want to go too mad till after the 20 week scan but it'd be nice to pick up a few bits.

Lemon tree - your mil sounds a nightmare! Sounds like you can't do anything right. Remember you have the power when baby is here so hopefully she will start being nicer...

Angel - that is so lovely of your mil about the money. Well done on the exam too.

I don't have 20 week scan date yet either but think i got it nearer the date last time.

As for NCT maybe things like playmat, bouncy chair. Hard to remember what you actually need!

T2D - glad you can work from home to stop you going stir crazy. Well done on getting it all sorted in a short space of time.

Lemon - what a horrible situation with your MIL. Can't really offer any advice on what to do, except leave it up to your OH. If he doesn't want to visit then don't arrange the trips. If MIL has a problem with that, then let her bring it up (in Italian!) with him. I agree with others that you will have the upper hand when baby comes along!

Ali - hope your DH is annoying you less now!

Peonie - how are you feeling today? Did you sort out the sick pay/mat pay thing? Thanks for digging out the list!

Angel - glad you are better too. Good luck at the NCT sale.

AFM - got the price back for NCT, going to cost £180, without membership  Its a shocking amount of money, but so many people I know swear by it for meeting people, that I am really torn over what to do!

DIY is going well, baby's room is all plastered and the guy is coming back tomorrow to do the hall. Will be a major step forward. Our 20 week scan is next fri, they book it for you at your 12 week one, which is good to know in advance. Its literally bang on 20 weeks! Getting proper, can't pass them off as anything else, baby movement now! Feels like being flicked from the inside, or a wee ripple movement inside? I agree with others though, I've not felt flutters.

SewIt we paid £180 for our NCT classes too. I asked around and everyone local who'd been was really glad they went and most people have made friends there, plus we don't have NHS classes here so that wasn't an option.
