Get better soon - how rotten for you.

    Go WTDN!!!

Come on team blue where are you?

We are just special Lissmiss!! Go team blue
Hi RMR - I have been sick 3 times in my pg so pretty lucky. On the other hand all those three times were in the second trimester! I haven't had the mythical burst of energy but since about 15/16 weeks I stopped feeling nauseous. I can now stay awake until gone 10pm if need be. I have enough energy to do a day at work and then make dinner rather than collapsing comatose. I enjoy food again. I am however having ridiculous problems with leaking boobs already! My t-shirt this morning had a 2 inch circular boob stain. I am starting to wear a bit of tissue as I am too tight to wear proper pads yet. I have had to buy panty liners though (tmi, soz). And growing pains in my boobs.

Surely mat leave is each company's own policy? Doesn't that mean you can do what you like (am I being naive?) You still need to get your matB1 form off I imagine for SMP.

MrsC - I understand. I was getting fed up at week 19 with not feeling anything so can understand. It definitely helps to make all the other stuff more bearable. I found until then it was all a matter of trust that something was really happening with just feeling rotten and no gain.

Lemontree- saw you go introduce yourself. Been doing a bit of lurking. I think a foot in both camps is a great idea!

Leaky boobs! I'll have to keep an eye out for that.

After saying I had more energy I totally hit a wall today at work. Ended up leaving at 1.30 and just came home to bed. Got to sleep about 3.30ish, and woke up again at 7. Still got a headache but feeling much better. I really didn't sleep at all last night, so I simply wasn't coping today.

For the Mat leave, I'm lucky to work for a big company. Although I must admit when I joined 2.5 years ago I did check the policy and it was a consideration in choosing jobs. I just didn't think it would take as long to get to use it!
  • Peonie, I think it depends what your sick pay policy is as to whether it'll affect your mat pay regardless of if sickness is pregnancy related or not. They calculate it in pay months that fall between 15 weeks and 25 weeks as the assumption is that you're over the worst of first trimester and not knackered from third trimester so more chance of being in work. If your company policy is only to pay ssp then that will affect your smp as smp calculated on what's actually in your pay packet for those two months- but if you're paid as though you are working (like in nhs for example) then all you'd 'lose' out on would be any overtime etc. that you were planning on doing.

RMR- you can't work and claim smp so you need to weigh up which option is best. In my work they offer 10 kit (keep in touch) days over course of mat leave for you to keep up to date with what's going on. If you work a kit day you have your smp taken off you for the day and any mat pay for that day that you might have received. Obviously it may be different for you being a family company but pretty sure work + smp= a no no.

Lemon- i haven't built up the courage to introduce myself to the next thread- makes it all seem too real! Besides, i like the group of preggo's that I'm lucky enough to be in so i'm hanging around here too until everyone else moves up. Am like a scared child! :)

Lilmiss, hope your boss lets you do that with your leave. I had to argue the toss with mine for 10 days to carry over- i'd hoped to carry 20 over to tag onto end of mat leave but they wouldn't budge which was (and still is) SO irritating. I'd be off for exactly the same amount of time, just that i'd be paid a bit better towards the end but they couldn't get their heads around that logic. Biffs. I've provisonally taken more leave than I initially wanted (with the extra a/l and t/l tagged on the end) just to spite them- which is ridiculous as i'll probably be bankrupt by then! :rotfl: Double check your policy on travel claims. I'm not too sure they include them. Our pay is only calculated from basic, overtime, enhancements and on-call, i suppose so that you don't play a 'lets store 3 months of expenses up to boost mat pay' game...

Whoever said I was organised(sewit?)- can i have that on a plaque somewhere please. It's probably the first and last time i'll ever see that about me! Think nesting has kicked in and it's the one thing I really have been organised about in my life. Usually i'm a grade A procrastinator- started my uni dissertation 30 hours before it was due in because i'm ridiculous...:o

I've looked through my maternity guidance document and it's not clear on the payment. I'll need to check what it's based on when I go back to work. Actually I'll hunt out my pay slip from when I was sick last year. I do know that the payment is based on an eight week period that I'm currently in the middle of.

The wording for AL is also not clear but it does tell me that the normal sickness procedure does apply as my illness is not pregnancy related.

Someone has said to me before that you can write most sickness during pregnancy off as pregnancy related...because your immune system is weaker and you are less able to deal with bugs. I suppose the only thing it would not apply to would be something like a broken leg! Unless you toppled over from the weight of your bump... :rotfl: Also if you were not pregnant the doctor may well not have advised you to take a week off for a virus, but being pregnant you need to rest and recuperate more than others would. I suppose it depends whether you could square it with your conscience to tell work you are off due to pregnancy related illness (you don't have to specify what). I don't know what I would do as I haven't been off from anything that isn't directly pregnancy related yet this pregnancy, but I have to say if it was going to affect my pay or my sickness record or whatever I may bend the truth and say it was pregnancy related even if it wasn't DIRECTLY :o I would probably convince myself using the above 'weaker immune system in pregnancy' argument. But I am probably too sneaky...

I'll definitely say about the weaker immune system and I fully agree, I don't think she would normally tell me to take a week off work but did because they I can't take any medicine. They will be told all that and they can make the decision.

Mr P has spent his third night in the spare bedroom. His snoring was so bad on Saturday night there was no way I was going to get any sleep. I even cleared the bed for him before I woke him and kicked him out.

    Good morning ladies!!

First - Peonie - I would argue it is pregnancy related no question. Using the old legal test of 'but for', but for the pregnancy, you would be able to work. You could take treatment and probably fight on through, but you can't now. Fingers crossed they listen, as I know the time is very important for working out mat leave pay.

Secondly - wow I feel much better today! Still a bit restless over night, but with a few hours sleep yesterday afternoon I feel better than I have in ages. Lost that general fuzzy fatigue feeling. It won't last I'm sure, but I'm enjoying feeling normal at least for a few hours. :)

That's what I'm not sure about, I'm sick while pregnant. Not sick because I'm pregnant.

If just normal sick then that counts towards sickness record but shouldn't affect mat pay.

My last pregnancy I didn't have one day off sick despite feeling awful this pregnancy this is second lot sickness n I was v clear pregnancy related. My sick note this time says nausea in pregnancy.

This should help work out if your pay will be affected by sickness. If you get full pay while off sick it shouldn't make any difference.

    Aww that is lovely Monty.

I got my first baby thing delivered yesterday. Was desperate to buy something so got a white pramsuit. Now just need to wait for 20 week scan so can sort through dd's old clothes and see what we need.

Also got my baby on board badge yesterday for the train but too scared to put it on in case people think i'm a fraud.
