Oh Peonie, hope you feel better soon. Don't think it should affect your mat pay as sickness even when pg is separate (unless it's in the last 4 weeks). Could be wrong tho. X

Grrr. Getting a bit annoyed now. Am nearly at 15 weeks and, although my nausea has eased, none of my other symptoms have yet. So, my boobs are more painful than ever, I'm exhausted all the time, I feel bloated, I've lost my appetite and seem to have gone off most food, when I do eat I feel full in no time, I'm peeing all the time, I'm getting heart burn a lot, and in general I have no motivation for anything other than naps.

I know I shouldn't moan as it's all for a good cause, but all those reports of having a ton of energy and losing all your bad symptoms in the second trimester obviously haven't filtered through to me yet.

Sorry for the rant. It's just getting me down today.

it's all great fun isn't it Michelle! you will hit the 'energy boost' eventually but you will find you redefine what you first thought it would be. My biggest symptom was my inability to not have a nap each night and twice a day at the weekend, now I define having my energy boost as being able to stay awake to about 10-10.30 each weekday night without a nap and only having one nap at the weekend. :)

Hello all, I've not been on much, just been catching up. Peonie hope you are feeling better soon.
    Daisiegg how are you feeling?

We had a lovely day out on a canal boat yesterday but I was exhausted. Then to ruin my day my OH ex declared world war three against us and we had the night from hell. I don't know why she blows hot and cold but she's an utter disgrace. I'll leave it at that before I go off on a huge rant!

My dad started to build my fitted wardrobes today so as soon as my bedroom is finished we can start on the loft conversion and then the nursery. I see light at the end of the tunnel!

    Evening ladies

Hope everyone is doing OK and the ladies that are feeling poorly are feeling better soon.

monty-doggy Sorry to hear about ex troubles.

I have to say that today is the first day in this pregnancy that I think I've felt "normal". I have got a sudden boost of energy like people have mentioned and I really hope it lasts as I've got so much done!

Also I am pretty sure the baby had hiccups last night, it felt so weird! I still can't get my head around there being a little person in there.

    23+1 today

Monty....I can sympathise, we get a lot here too. The latest one being that with our circumstances changing last week and again in October our 4 bed house isn't big enough for 5 kids (2 of which are only here every second weekend) as the 8 year old girl has to have a room on her own and can't share with any of her brothers.
A very quick google shows that she's talking about council/local authority guidelines which have no bearing at all on private home as there's no laws that cover who can and can't share rooms! She can toddle off back to her solicitor if she wants, the guidelines maybe apply to her house but they certainly don't in ours!

Laila, I've been feeling pretty normal recently although I've been up so early for the last few days I don't know how I'm still functioning!

Still haven't felt any movement (20+4) wish that placenta would get out the way!!!

  • Thanks for your replies ladies. It actually helps to know it may not get drastically better. At least I'm not expecting it now. So sorry so many of you are suffering too. At least we only have to suffer for 9 months and we're not elephants, eh?

New problem, related to the recent discussion, is that I need to start thinking about mat leave, but I have an odd situation. It's my dad's company which I work for, but essentially I run it. I therefore want to work until I literally can't, and I want to go back when I feel like it. I don't want anything in writing as I have no clue how I'm going to feel.

I can do a lot of work from home, so want to be able to do that as and when I can after baby is born. Am I able to not specify?

  • My m/l is working as follows:

Start a/l from 26/08 (37+3) to 05/09. M/l from 08/09 for 50 weeks. 'Return to work' 24/08/15- start 2 weeks a/l and 2 weeks t/l. (10 days carried over from this years a/l and 7 days t/l accrued whilst off supplemented with 'new' leave year of a/l) i'll have about 27 days of a/l left then to take before 31/03/16 so may add more a/l to end of m/l. If I don't I actually go back to work on 21/09.

It took bloody ages to work it out. I hate that HR and law makes things so stupidly awkward to understand!

MrsC- obviously it depends on your contract of employment but i'm not sure that they can take a/l from you if you did have baby early. Here's a link to have a goosey at- it may help you out a bit? http://www.thompsons.law.co.uk/ltext/l1510004.htm ? Also could just be my cynical dealings with our rubbish HR but they're there to protect companies interests- not yours and case law moves quickly so it is possible that your new HR bod isn't as up to date as they'd like you to think... (No offence HR peeps, ours are horrid though and pretty useless!)

Lilmiss- are you NHS? If so your policy should allow for some days a/l to roll over- usually however many you can roll over when not pregnant (i'm nhsbt and our policy allows for 5 days/ more with exceptional circumstances/ managers discretion. E.g. You book a/l for weeks 37 & 38 with m/l to start on week 39. You have baby on week 38. You can't take the a/l booked as m/l starts automatically as soon as baby born. Manager allowed to let you roll that leave over.) If you are NHS you should also accrue your public holidays too- you can't take them before m/l as you haven't accrued them- they get added onto your leave when you return. If you're on m/l when there's a b/h then you accrue it.

Yes I am. Same usual standards with being allowed to carry over 5 days normally. On my side is that I have a manager who is disinterested in all this kind of stuff. Therefore he openly says you sort it out and I'll sign it. I want everything to be paid evenly over the time I'm off (48 weeks). Spent hours yesterday working it out. Hoping ( as I am clutching onto 29 days a/l until April 15 plus 4 BH) that I can take leave from 14th Sep until due date on 13th Oct with official carry over plus any if mini me turns up early. Or even if I don't take full weeks off from 14/9 might work some short weeks. I really want to carry over as won't be accruing as much next year as hope to go back for 3-4 days. No 3 days. No 4 days. 3 days. 4 days. 3 days. 4 days. 3.5 days over 3 days?

Going to try to call HR as well to check if my student loan repayments affect my mat pay but whether that is balanced out by my travel claims.

So glad I'm not the only to find it so bewildering.

Worst case scenario they don't let me have my 6 weeks leave for mat leave, they are going to be in a pickle as there are only 3 and a half months before I go off (butterflies just thinking about it) so would be interesting to try and use it without it really messing everything else up...

Hi, the doctor said it's a virus and is not from the pregnancy. She told me to take the week off work but has not given me anything to take. So I must have to wait until my body works it through my system.

So I plan on doing things round the house. We've been a bit lax lately. So I'll do what I can when I feel up to it and will rest at the other times.

I just want to know how this week off will affect my maternity pay.

I hope everyone else is well.

Get better soon - how rotten for you.

    Go WTDN!!!
