12-24 weeks pregnant (part 3)

No! You would say I am starting ML on, say, 2nd October (just using my dates as an example). Separately, you would say I would like to take holiday from 20th September to 1st October, This would be holiday, not ml. Ml starts when you specify that ml starts, not when you stop working for whatever reason. If you had holiday booked before that they can't take away your holiday and count it as ml instead. What they could do I suppose is say no it is not convenient for you to have your holiday that fortnight, as they could with any holiday request, and then you'd need to decide whether to stay working until the 2nd October or start your ml early. But what they can't do is say 'oh, I see you are taking holiday on 20th September and then starting ml on 2nd October - well, actually you are losing your holiday and we will start your ml from 20th September!'
Was just going by the advice on gov.co.uk. It doesn't mention anything about holidays though. I got the weeks wrong for the pregnancy related illness, starts at 36 weeks then....
Usually, the earliest you can start your leave is 11 weeks before the expected week of childbirth.
"Leave will also start:
the day after the birth if the baby is early
automatically if you’re off work for a pregnancy-related illness in the 4 weeks before the week (Sunday to Saturday) that your baby is due"No longer ...tobe! Married 20/06/13MFW 2021 #117 £5415.40/£6000MFW 2022 #77 £3740/£3000MFW 2023 #82 £0/£30000 -

Not according to the policy and we have a new hr partner that is an employment law solicitor so I guess that it's watertight. Doesn't bother me, less time to work during the summer! No longer ...tobe! Married 20/06/13MFW 2021 #117 £5415.40/£6000MFW 2022 #77 £3740/£3000MFW 2023 #82 £0/£30000 -
[STRIKE][/STRIKE]Peonie Sounds like a trip to the midwife or doctor would be an idea. Even just a phone call if you have numbers you can call. As the UTI conversation reminded me, there are things you would normally live with out just wait out, which you should have looked at while pregnant. Being stoic isn't necessary - all the medical bods I've spoken to always say they would prefer to have their time wasted than miss something.
Daisie Your bump is lovely! Lots of bump jealousy from me. Mine is heading towards a B bump, with baby below and displaced fat about, so I know what you mean. You, and I, know noone else cares, but can't help feeling a bit self conscious about everything.
Re Mat Leave I agree they can't force your holidays leave to turn into Mat leave. To be clear, I am leaving work on 4 August, but my Mat leave doesn't actually start until sometime in September as we have just started our leave year and I take the whole years leave up front, but a few days rolled over.
Actually I'm glad I'm leaving early as if I don't use the leave now then I would probably lose it [STRIKE]as I may not go back next year[/STRIKE]. In fact I may anyway if the baby comes early, but there isn't much I can do about that.
However, if you go off sick for a pregnancy related reason 4 weeks before your due date, then the CAN force the start your mat leave.0 -
daisiegg you look lovely, deffo preggers and your bump doesn't look weird to me at all.
In regards to mat leave, I am taking 2 weeks leave first and then going off on the 15th Sept (I am due 28th Sept) so I will finish at the end of August. We are supposed to use up our holiday accrued before we go off but can carry over at managers discretion. I have 8 days left to use but we are going to be moving at the end of July and so I will probably use those then.
I am very lucky in that I get 6 months off at full pay so will be taking that and then straight back to work. I am hoping to be able to work from home 3 days a week which I do now but it's unofficial. I need it to be agreed officially to sort out childcare. I think MIL will be doing a day and SIL will be doing a day so fingers crossed we won't be losing out any pay which is a good thing as our mortgage on the new house is ridiculous.0 -
Baby brain moment. I bought some clothes last week and I was just wondering why they hadn't arrived. So I went into ASOS, and found they were all still sitting in my 'basket'. I never actually finished the ordering process!!0

Oh dear, i just get more confused. Sounds like a lot depends on whether my manager lets/is allowed to let me to carry holiday over.
Took a picture of my bump and deleted it. Not too impressed at this stage. Daisiegg - you look lovely hon.

Daisie you look lovely. My bump is crap, I just look like I have a fat belly. Normally I put on weight everywhere except my belly, but now I have inches and inches of flat out in front that I've never had before. It's horrible. I can really feel my uterus though above my pubic bone, it's rock hard and I feel like it's going to erupt into a proper bump any time now. I hope it does so I can lookp regnant instead of like i've eaten all the pies.
My friend who is expecting twins a week before I'm due is on holiday and just sent me a photo. She has a real proper huge bump and is glowing and looks absolutely lovely. Good on her, she had a horrible first trimester, she deserves to look and feel great now.0 -

Just realised when looking through the list that I hadn't updated my EDD since I got it 7 weeks ago! Only a day out but it's right now!No longer ...tobe! Married 20/06/13MFW 2021 #117 £5415.40/£6000MFW 2022 #77 £3740/£3000MFW 2023 #82 £0/£30000 -
My m/l is working as follows:
Start a/l from 26/08 (37+3) to 05/09. M/l from 08/09 for 50 weeks. 'Return to work' 24/08/15- start 2 weeks a/l and 2 weeks t/l. (10 days carried over from this years a/l and 7 days t/l accrued whilst off supplemented with 'new' leave year of a/l) i'll have about 27 days of a/l left then to take before 31/03/16 so may add more a/l to end of m/l. If I don't I actually go back to work on 21/09.
It took bloody ages to work it out. I hate that HR and law makes things so stupidly awkward to understand!
MrsC- obviously it depends on your contract of employment but i'm not sure that they can take a/l from you if you did have baby early. Here's a link to have a goosey at- it may help you out a bit? http://www.thompsons.law.co.uk/ltext/l1510004.htm ? Also could just be my cynical dealings with our rubbish HR but they're there to protect companies interests- not yours and case law moves quickly so it is possible that your new HR bod isn't as up to date as they'd like you to think... (No offence HR peeps, ours are horrid though and pretty useless!)
Lilmiss- are you NHS? If so your policy should allow for some days a/l to roll over- usually however many you can roll over when not pregnant (i'm nhsbt and our policy allows for 5 days/ more with exceptional circumstances/ managers discretion. E.g. You book a/l for weeks 37 & 38 with m/l to start on week 39. You have baby on week 38. You can't take the a/l booked as m/l starts automatically as soon as baby born. Manager allowed to let you roll that leave over.) If you are NHS you should also accrue your public holidays too- you can't take them before m/l as you haven't accrued them- they get added onto your leave when you return. If you're on m/l when there's a b/h then you accrue it.
Peonie- definitely get yourself to your doctors. Even if it's nothing to be worried about it doesn't sound pleasant and they may be able to help you with it.
Tink- thanks for the spatone recommendation. Bought it on 3 4 2 in boots today. Had it with a small oj and it didn't taste of anything other than oj! NO more disgusting syrup for me! :j
T2D :rotfl: at least you figured out when clothes hadn't arrived! I would have probably made a show of myself in a ranty email to customer services!
Btw- 20% off babiesrus ends tonight. Code is HSAVE20MAY. Just bought my matresses and a sophie la giraffe teether thing. It's the one thing i've been repeatedly told to buy....0
