Hi ladies, I have my twenty week scan at 2.20 and I am ridiculously nervous :-( I just can't help stressing. I have a very high bmi and I was awake half the night last night worrying about if they will be able to see what they need to. I am exactly 20 weeks today. We are hoping to find out if we are team blue or team pink too as our daughter who is seven is desperate to know.
Does anyone know if I will be better with a full bladder?
Hope everyone is doing ok.

Hi all,
Good luck for the scan today Naomijj! Let us know how you get on.
We umm-ed and ahh-ed about finding out the sex of the baby too. Eventually we decided to, not because we mind either way, but because we thought it would make it feel more real for us somehow to think of our son, or our daughter, rather than our baby. I know that doesn't make any sense at all, but it's what's worked for us. And in any case, the sonographer wasn't too sure anyway!
The whole MATB1 form thing is a bit of a pain, isn't it? I managed to get an "urgent" midwife appointment (referred by my GP) to ask about medication shortly after the 20 week scan, and explained then that I needed it earlier than 26+ weeks because work were insisting they have it. The MW did it for me there and then.
AFM - sorry not been around much this week. All's fine, just been very busy. Saw the consultant obstetrician, and he's looked up the medication the urologist has put me on (after saying that I shouldn't take it at the booking appt) and now agrees with the urologist that it IS the best medicine for me. Which is great! I'm really pleased because now I have two specialists (one obstetrician and one urologist) both recommending the drug (in my case, not in general) rather than one recommending for and one against - which was causing me quite some anxiety when it's a risky drug! It seems that there's one risk to baby - but it's unlikely because it tends to occur only if mum/dad/baby are of a particular ethnicity (which we aren't). They both agree that it's MUCH more risky not to treat my condition successfully. There are risky side-effects for me but given that I've been taking this drug for years and these side-effects haven't appeared yet, there's no reason to think they will now. Off to see the urologist later this week to see what the latest tests show and check the drug is still working.
In other news, today I am HUNGRY! I've eaten 2 x toast, 1 x sandwich, 2 bags of crisps, 2 muffins, and a handful of chocolate biccies. And I'm still feeling like dashing out of the office for more! Not to mention the large amounts of fluids (milk, juice, water) that my kidneys need. I don't normally eat this much junk and usually have more fruits and veggies, but I've been badly organised today and it's been all that's really available at work. Think I'll need to have a rather healthier dinner this evening, but it's pancake day so that might not happen! Well - one day of junk-food probably won't make a huge difference...
We also have bought NOTHING for baby yet. Just a couple of maternity tops and a pair of maternity jeans for me. It's our first, too, so we don't have lots already. We might need to start thinking about that...
Hope you're all doing well.

Glad to hear your specialists are agreeing now and I hope you feel more relaxed Bumblebee.
Hope the sugar in your urine turns out not to be diabetes cmace2. If it's something you had before that turned out not to be a problem perhaps it'll be the same this time.
Good luck for your scan naomijj I hope they can see everything they need to so you can stop worrying, but at least if they need to rescan you'll get another look at baby.
AFM, we had our 20wk scan this morning. Baby looks all fine and healthy and we're having a girl. OH was pleased as he had a slight preference for a girl (lots of boys in his family). He had bought baby a little soft toy as a present, which he'd been hiding for weeks and gave to me after the scan.
So I guess we should start getting organised now, planning what we'll buy. And I guess I should probably start telling people, as it's starting to get a bit obvious!

Aww that's nice of your OH wangdoodle :T congrats on having a girl! We are going to find out but aren't fussed either way, but I went into Aldi's yesterday and bought some baby stuff. I tried to go all gender neutral colours but they only had one pack of muslin cloths left and they were pink themed but I got them anyway. Then I had a dream last night that we found out it was a boy and I was disappointed haha!! I'm putting it down to the muslin cloths and how they would be a wasted £3.29 lol
!

Well we are back and we had a brilliant experience after all that worry! The sonographer was lovely and managed to get all the measurements with no trouble. I had to go for a drink and a walk to get baby to turn over halfway through so she could see both sides. She is 95% sure we are having a boy!!! So our seven year old daughter is over the moon :-):-)
I hope everyone else is well posting from my phone but will read back layer.

Congrats on the good scans ladies!!
How nice to have some jolly chatter on here
I'm feeling wiped out today, but Sunday was v busy (inc planting potatoes!) and I couldn't rest yesterday.
Have finally seen the dentist... And he's going to do the work on my tooth (couldn't do it 6 months ago as NHS says 'nothing preventative allowed'. Well after a few months of sickness and nausea it's now an actual problem! I'm going to wait a month if I can as it'll involve injections etc.
And at my job center review today they began talking about Maternity benefit. (Was made redundant at 2weeks pg). I'm so upset that now I am showing no one will hire me (I wouldn't blame them!), but the advisor was really supportive and helpful. Turns out I do need a MATB after all. Fingers crossed I'm entitled to something.
I'm now 23 + 1. Have fun on the Big Thread Lara, see you soon x
(Oh and Big Hugs to Mrs T today, I'm not sure if you still read but Id have felt odd posting on the mc thread. Am still thinking of you xx)Please forgive the badly spelt alias... I am a long time contributor who needed to reclaim anonymity for health/job related posts.0 -
Hi Everyone. How are you all? Lovely news on positive scans.
Im 16+4 today and had my midwife appointment. Basically everything is fine and we got to hear babies heartbeat which was amazing. So pleased everything was ok. So went out after and got some maternity clothes because I can't fit in mine anymore.
Robots - hopefully you can get some sort of mat pay.
Naomi - lovely news on your scan and a lil boy congratulations.
Wangdoodle- congrats on your scan and congrats on a lil girl. Very exciting.
In regards to matB forms my midwife said that after my 20 week scan I need to ring my doctors and they then send me the form before my next appointment.
All seeming very real now.0 -
Disney, glad to hear your midwife appointment went so well!
How is everyone else doing?
I've had a little bit of a dramatic day - I was at work this morning and upon going to the toilet I realised I was bleeding fresh blood. Not a lot, but more than just spotting. Decided to put a pad on and keep an eye on it until my morning shift finished. Was still bleeding come lunch, so rang the community midwife who said to come down to the doctors and they'd check me over. Zoomed down to the doctors and the midwife saw me straight away, managed to trace baby's heartbeat on the doppler, thank goodness! She took some blood (as I'm Rhesus Negative and will probably need an anti-d injection due to my bleed) and rang the hospital, got me in for a scan this afternoon. Not long got back from my scan and all is well - baby was curled up fast asleep, very reluctant to move (as per the 12 week scan). She couldn't find any obvious cause for the bleeding, but reassured me that baby was looking very well and it may be just one of those things and that some women do bleed throughout pregnancy.
So, a bit of a dramatic day, but am now at home taking it easy until the Hubby gets home.
