  • ooh, sympathies to you who are suffering from heart burn and indigestion. I had a couple of weeks of that- fortunately OH gets heartburn so we always have a handy bottle of gaviscon.

I am 14+4 and I think we have already picked out our travel system.
i am resisting the urge to start buying it though, I at least want to have had my 20 week scan first. So far, I have bought new bras and some belly- butter and that was scary enough! We spent yesterday afternoon at mothercare and kiddecare having a good look at all the different car seats, pushchairs etc. We also picked out the nursery furniture we (I) want a couple of weeks ago.

Please stop me getting carried away with myself!

    Hello Everyone,

I've been lurking on this thread for a while, feel like I know most of you but have never introduced myself properly. I did post a few times on the Less than 12 week thread.

A little bit of info about me:
    - Got married in August 2013.
    - Expecting first baby 31st August 2014 ; team yellow although suspense is already painful! I'm 14 weeks today.
    - I'm 27 shortly, husband is nearly 29 and we're both teachers.

Pregnancy wise so far so good, craving seems to be anything that I've not cooked haha - just ordered Chinese a few mins ago!! shhh don't tell the midwife, I've already had my "Weight Management in pregnancy" booklet.

  • Yay, Alipops! :j Great to see you on here! :D Won't tell the midwife about your chinese, if your body craves it there's obviously something in it you're needing! Well, that's my reasoning anyway... ;)

  • welcome alipops! the odd Chinese can't be bad for you :D

nothing to report here! seeing the midwife on Friday which I'm oddly looking forward to as last time she said she would listen for the heartbeat at the next appointment :)

  • Hugs to all the ladies feeling sick/in pain/generally rubbish.

    Welcome to the new posters!

I'm 21+2 today, doesn't seem 5 minutes since I was TTC and worrying it wouldn't happen! Feeling absolutely exhausted now, I really don't know how I'm going to keep going at work until 34 weeks (which is when I've decided to start mat leave). One of my friends is 34 weeks now and she says she's ready to finish now, and she's had a 'easy' pregnancy in her own words. With DS I was advised to take mat leave at 29 weeks, which I did, and I remember weeks 27 and 28 being such a struggle but I really don't want to leave too early this time as I'm planning on returning to my job, also it will hardly be restful at home with an energetic 3 year old, I'm probably better off at work!

My consultant appointment about birthing options has been moved back to 14th March, which is a pain as that's the date I need to inform work when I'm definitely planning on finishing as I'm on holiday for a couple of weeks after that and they have to know before 25 weeks, so I was planning on filling out all the paperwork after my appointment which was originally on the 11th. Also, I'm going to have a nightmare getting the MAT1B on time as my midwife won't just issue it, you have to go in and see her for an appointment to get it and she told me to make my next appointment for 28 weeks, she won't issue it until after 24 weeks, and I'm on holiday then anyway. I've spoken to HR and they've said it's fine to hand the maternity leave forms in by the deadline, then just hand the MAT1B in once I have it, they just can't pay maternity pay until they have the original in their possession.

I haven't started shopping for baby at all yet, we still have loads of stuff from DS so won't need too much although I need a new moses basket and I want a better infant car seat, I'll also get a new mattress for the cot. We'll also need clothes unless we decide to dress her in blue! I can't decide if I want to get a new pram or not, I'll probably leave most of the buying until I'm on maternity leave and have time to wander round the shops. You ladies make me feel so disorganised! I do tend to have the attitude what could I possibly need that I couldn't send OH to the 24 hour supermarket down the road for in an emergency!

I can't actually remember the last time I cooked! I just don't have the energy, I remember making a sandwich a couple of times last week, but I can't remember the last time I cooked a meal. OH has cooked a few times, but if he doesn't we either get takeaway or go to the pub. You'd think with me having a high BMI I'd be watching what I eat very carefully, but I'm not. Will no doubt get told off at my consultant appointment!

I honestly don't know if I've put on weight or not. I know at 12 weeks I'd lost 2.5kg, and my appetite is much smaller than it was pre-pregnancy which is a surprise to me as it wasn't when I was expecting DS. One of my colleagues remarked how you can't tell I'm pregnant from the back but I have got a massive bump and am I sure I'm only having one! One colleague didn't even realise I was pregnant until it came up in conversation on Friday I was having a girl this time, so maybe I haven't put on that much weight, although how anyone could miss my very prominent bump I really don't know! Another colleague said to me this week I've heard you're pregnant is that true? So maybe I think I'm bigger than I actually am. I'm planning on joining Slimming World after baby is born this time as I never lost any of the baby weight from DS, before I had him my BMI was under 30, at booking in this time it was 39 so a massive difference. I'm not going to worry about how much I put on this time though, just plan on losing as much of it as I can afterwards.

Two of my close friends commented this weekend that I was looking pale and my hands and fingers look a bit swollen, but I don't think they are, I think they're usually that chubby. That said they do keep going numb a lot. I had a quick look on google and it doesn't seem to be anything to worry about, swelling seems quite normal in pregnancy. The only worry would be pre-eclampsia but as I'm looking pale I would assume my blood pressure isn't high so that's not really a worry.

I should be in bed now, I'm shattered but I just can't get comfy lying down, and the pain keeps me awake.

All of the above does sound like a big moan, but I'm actually really cheerful and enjoying pregnancy much more this time round, even if it doesn't sound like it!

Hi ladies, just to say thankyou for all the advice last week and I am feeling so much better. I am nolonger being sick and the nausea has about gone and so im eating and drinking alot better. Im still dizzy when i stand for too long but im managing to be able to stand for longer than i was, i can now brush my teeth and hair and wash etc and back downstairs without feeling too dizzy whereas up until last week I couldn't stand for more than a minute without being close to passing out.

I'm now 13+4 and enjoying my pregnancy at last, now the sickness has gone I finally feel excited :D so excited infact i'm booking a private 3d gender scan for 3 weeks time eeek I'm gonna be a mummy again :):):)

Hi ladies, may I join you. I'm expecting my second baby on August 28th, this baby was a big surprise to us and the first one came 12 weeks early due to pre-e, so I'm generally just a big scared mess this time around!

Aquamarine I dont think they are allowed to give out the forms before 24 weeks because you are only entitled to mat leave if the pregnancy goes beyond this.

Its a bit silly your midwife is insisting on an appt though. At my gps you get it at the 25 week appt but if youre not seeing yours until 28 weeks she really should be able to give it to you for 25 as thats when youre supposed to hand it in to workplaces. Although like you said it doesnt really matter, I think I gave mine in at 26 or so.

The coke thing is really weird as i have always drank diet coke and have switched to caffeine free, as its better for baby but now i just have a full fat coke and my headache eases! I have also tried everything from fresh air to the forehead stick and actually i gave in and tried paracetamol and it didn't do anything but a can of coke did! Weird! Its worth a try at least!

Just lurking from the 'big' thread - from my understanding the effect of full fat coke is due to the concentration of caffeine as it dilates the blood vessels in the head increasing blood flow and, in theory, decreasing the discomfort/headache

For those with indigestion/heartburn try thick milkshakes - the kind you can buy by the litre (generally on 2 for £2/£2.50) or Frij ones (not the thinner stuff or nesquick) I found them a massive help when I was having a few episodes early on and they were recommended to me but friends and 'the professionals'
