I've been talking with my mum who is a nurse and had 6 babies :) she said with my problems there's a high chance I'll need a c section. ( which I knew anyway ) If they start me off natural labour and I struggle, then I'm moved for a c section it's likely if I've not yet had an epidural they will do it under general anaesthetic and I'll be asleep.this is because the epidural takes 30 mins to work, and if the baby is in distress they won't wait. If I've had an epidural, they can easily top it up. For this reason I'll be taking the epidural as I don't want to risk being asleep when my baby comes.

    Welcome to all the newbies!

T2d I get shooting pains running from where I imagine my cervix is to inside my hip joint. If you look at the pic in the link I think it's broad/ round ligament pain as it all seems to be one giant ligament that's attached to everything in there! If you're worried though definitely get in touch with your cons/ mw. http://www.edoctoronline.com/media/19/photos_A264E545-1FB0-4A7A-B6B5-A799C68CB6EF.jpg
TCOD - would you mind double checking that link? I'm curious but the link doesn't work for me!!
  • Monty-doggy just unlurking for a mo.

I was induced and started labour without an epidural. The baby was in distress and I was given a spinal and an emergency section. You don't *need* to be given a general in all cases.

I'm going to talk it all through with the mw. All I know is I really don't want to be asleep. Plus I don't recover well from anaesthetic last time I was ill for three days and kept in hospital. I really don't want that.

I'm getting scared again thinking of it all. :(

Monty when I had my hip surgery last year I was given a spinal and that worked pretty much straight away but took ages to wear off. The best thing to do is discuss it with your midwife or do you have a consultant that you're seeing that you can discuss it with?

Please don't get scared and stay away from Dr Google as that will only make things worse. Just remember that there are always options and the midwives are there to help you xx

Yes I'm seeing the consultant in three weeks, I feel. So stupid as millions of babies born every day but I'm terrified. I don't want anyone Looking at me down there, I'm scared if I poo myself, I'm scared of the pain, I'm scared of the baby being all goey and grey colour and I'm scared my oh won't ever come near me again after seeing it all!

Yes I'm being stupid but I can't help it :(

    Hi all,

I also had my 12 week scan yesterday but was put back 2 days so not really 12 weeks till tomorrow. Due date 4th December. This will be my second child, my little girl is 3 years old.

Monty - try not to be scared, hope the consultant can ease your mind a bit.

Welcome angeltreats, runmichellerun and wendz86 :j Its great being dated further along. Its such a long wait I was glad to shave some time off!

Angeltreats, I live up North and have never heard of primary school graduation being anything special let alone hiring limo's! CRAZY!!
I have just looked at the NCT website and their prices. I only really want to meet other expectant/ new mums for socialising lol think I may stick to postnatal baby group.

I am also undecided about a 3D/4D scan. I never liked the look of them before but now I think I can not wait for another look.

I think I am going for an hospital birth and an epidural! I was originally going to avoid an epidural if I could but I am such a wimp!!

I was advised to do NCT if you want to meet people, as having to pay makes people a bit more committed to the process. As far as I can tell it's the only really helpful thing you get from the meetings, but those that have done them said they were totally worth it.

Monty - I'm hoping to get a spinal for my planned CS. From what I hear it is magic for pain relief, much better than a GA. I swear with a GA they let you wake up then say 'are you in any pain?' before giving you any drugs!

I have woken up from major surgery a number of times to that question, and I feel like saying 'I've just been cut apart - what do you f'ing think!!?'. At least with the spinal you can keep requesting a top up, and I like the idea that it takes a while to wear off.

Bizarrely I had a dream about getting a spinal last night, as well as my first baby born dream.

ETA: In my dream I didn't bond with the baby. It was chatting to me (as babies do..) and I was trying to bond, but just couldn't. I guess that is my fear.
