12-24 weeks pregnant (part 3)

  • Welcome to all the newbies!

T2d I get shooting pains running from where I imagine my cervix is to inside my hip joint. If you look at the pic in the link I think it's broad/ round ligament pain as it all seems to be one giant ligament that's attached to everything in there! If you're worried though definitely get in touch with your cons/ mw. http://www.edoctoronline.com/media/19/photos_A264E545-1FB0-4A7A-B6B5-A799C68CB6EF.jpg

Thanks for all the reassurance. I'm usually not one iota bothered about money (lack of...) but for some hormonal reason it's getting to me now. Maybe it's a little bit of the green eyed monster or maybe it's just stress. Thank you all though. :)

I think my mw will be running through birth plan ideas at my next appt (this week or next- keep forgetting to check date!). So far I'm going for a home birth with pool. I'd like gas and air, pethidine if necessary though might not be an option as I don't react well to opiates. My oh will be there and don't think I could keep mum out if I tried! Mil may be there if oh wants her there. I'd like a darkish room. Baby straight on me. Am quite keen on idea of delayed cord clamping- oh to cut when it stops pulsating. Quite happy to have injection to deliver placenta as out of the whole process it's the one thing I have a really irrational fear about.... It's overwhelming thinking about it though! Only 17 weeks to go!
  • Welcome AT and michelle! There is a list somewhere but may be v far back - if you have trouble with the colours there are clever people on here who can help (think it's easiest to quote but not sure).

t2d - yes to all those symptoms. V similar to daisiegg's pains.

monty-doggy - at my 16 week mw appt she was pushing for me to go to the mw led unit but I want a home birth (ideally in a birthing pool). Glad to hear it worked well for you bluebell. If you want I quoted someone else's really good reasons for home birth if you're interested. I can go back through my posts to find it if you like. Emily Oster's book also discusses ideas for birth plans.

We think the all day antenatal class free through the nhs will be enough information wise but want nct classes just to guarentee a collection of same time mummies to be friends with. Two of my friends went just for that reason.

My hormonal pity party has abated as:
    1) we found new lodger
    2) he said he could see my bump and guessed I was pg
    3) DH got a new job to start in September assuming they are ok that he leaves end of June to start his 6 week unpaid residential teaching course :rotfl:
    Met DH to be 2010
    Moved in and engaged 2011
    Married 2012
    Bought a house 2013
    Expecting our first 2014 :T

T2D, this could be a load do carp but a friend told me it's free to take travel systems on the plane. So you won't need to think about buying another in Oz.

If I had not been given a Moses basket I don't think I'd bother getting one. A friend said they had to move their cot bed into their bedroom as her kids had outgrown the basket before 6 months and that seems to be normal.

The travel system is fine, but the car seat regulations in Australia are totally different and very strict. You have to have a locally approved one. But from what I have been told the baby is out of the carrier style ones pretty early, and we will get seats from friends when we get over.

I'm really keen to start planning the move to Australia earlier than planned. I may have to give in to some of DH's pet projects while I start to smooth the way to moving asap. He is keen, but he worries so much about details, but if I get everything ready then hopefully he will be ok. I've really got no support system here, and just want to get home to all my friends and family. *insert pity party here*

We've been very lucky with the amount we've been given and some of it is older than 4th hand. My dear mum & dad are buying us the travel system but we're paying the difference between a normal Bug and the one we want and we're buying all the accessories. Plus, I'm still hunting for ways to get everything cheaper. Growing up we could not afford fancy days out. I had a happy childhood with homemade picnics at the park (milky coffee in a flask and tuna sandwiches), playing on the swings and slides and board games at home. Why do kids these days have to go to soft play, activity centres or theme parks every holiday?

Do you know what the kid's birthday parties are like near you? At my DSis's kids school, they had to invite all the children in their reception(?) class to their birthday party. That year she never had a weekend free. It's crazy. Tea and WTDN, there's a cinema in Waterloo and you can hire the screen on a Saturday morning for birthday parties for around £90. Sorry, I've got off the pregnancy topic.

Just in case anyone thinks I'm a moo for not thanking your interesting posts: many a time the posts load and the thanks buttons have disappeared.

  • I remember many a weekend playing hunt for change down the back of the couch so we can eat! My hands and arms were small enough! Fair play to my mum and dad- they made it fun! :) seriously, at one point during the 80s recession we ate value smash mash and beans for about 2 months straight. Can't face either of them now....

It's mad how money is getting to me though. I think it's because I still don't know how much mat pay i'll get, how long I can afford to be off or if oh will ever earn! I'm finding being a sole earner pretty stressful right now and he isn't inclined to look for pt work- instead just moans he has no money. He's not entitled to jsa or benefits because he was self employed for 5 years but even then he never made any money- just enough to keep the business running. I can't talk to him about it as it ends up in a fight or with him saying he'll jack his course in and get a ft job (cos seriously, there's loads of those by us right now....not....) which is pointless as he has no qualifications to speak of and very little 'employed' job experience so he'll end up in the same boat but without a back up. I feel like my head is going to burst sometimes!

Oh is training to be a teaching assistant in primary school and he says most of the kids in his class have ipads (or access to them), a smartphone and tvs in their rooms. Crazy!

I've heard of parents hiring limos for their children's graduation FROM PRIMARY SCHOOL!! I have never heard anything so ridiculous. I asked my friend who has secondary school age girls and she said they don't do that sort of thing in our area, but where she used to live up north it was a really big thing. I just couldn't get over it.

Has anyone been to aqua natal classes? I would like to go but they are expensive (£12 per class) and I could really do without spending the money on them when we have car insurance this month, a holiday in two weeks and a bathroom renovation to pay for, plus apparently the NCT classes are going to cost £200 odd and there's no NHS classes in this area :(

We will struggle during mat leave I think, I get 6 weeks full pay and then onto SMP, but I am putting my head in the sand right now and will start saving as much as I can when we get back from holiday.

Tea, my sis became qualified as a teaching assistant last year or so ago. She got both levels of the qualifications and then joined an agency for a few months until she got a permanent job. She was hardly out of work with the agency and got a lot of experience at different schools. As a result she even took her kids out of the local school, which was supposed to be good, and put them in a better one.

I hope this works... the weird shape over his face is his arm kind of thrown over his eyes, which is weird because I sleep like that too.
