12-24 weeks pregnant (part 3)

Monty, I had DS at home and used a birthing pool. The water did help with the pain of the contractions. I chose a home birth because I felt more relaxed there, which again helped me to labour better, but I felt confident about making that choice as I was only a few mins from hospital in case of problems. I am hoping to stay home again this time.
DS wasn't born in the pool as my contractions slowed down a bit. Midwife suggested going to the loo. As soon as I got out the pool I started pushing, and DS arrived 10 mins later!
The advantage for me being at home was feeling comfortable and relaxed, and having a midwife on hand at all times. Disadvantage of course are less pain relief options, and if you feel more comfortable in a hospital, then that's going to be a more sensible place to be.
I didn't wear anything. Quite frankly I was too busy having a baby to care! But if you do wish to use a pool then some people go for a tankini type top.
The other thing to think about is afterwards - delayed cord clamping or not, injections or not... I suspect that syntocin contributed to my retained placenta last time (note most people have it without problems), so I am hoping to be able to just leave my body to get on with it without an injection. There is some evidence to suggest that delayed cord clamping (until it stops pulsating) may help prevent jaundice, but it's not certain. Does your OH wish to cut the cord? My husband said no because he was worried he might get it wrong.
Also think about whether you would like baby cleaned up before you have your first cuddle, or if you're happy with the gooey version!
I'm sure there's more - if you can think of any specific questions I can try and help...0 -
Monty I did not know we go through the birthing plan at 25 weeks, I will have to have a think.... easy and the least painful is all I have come up with so far
What antenatal classes have you booked? I have not been offered any yet and to be honest not even sure what they are!
My appointments are always a week behind since my dating scan, should I mention this to the midwife when I see her at 26 weeks?
Let us know how you get on t2d, if you decide to call. Hope you feel better soon.
Daisie, My bump has got huge in the last few weeks. I might upload a pic later and see what you opinions on the size is. It did not appear until around 16-17 weeks so I am surprised its grown so much already. No stretch marks yet but my belly button is no longer an 'innie', just stretched skin!

delurking just to say I don't think it's the norm to go through birthing plans at 25 weeks, I know every part of the country is different but I'm 35 weeks and my birth plan has never even been mentioned! in hoping they do it at the next appointment ha!0

How are you feeling now t2d?0

Hiya,
I'm feeling ok now. Just backache really and maybe sore legs are from exercise and overdoing things over the last few days. I didn't call in the end. Will have a nice quiet evening at home today, sleep with my feet on a tower of pillows, and hopefully feel better tomorrow.
My belly is growing daily now. Freaking me out!!0 -
Hi ladies
Having had my 12 week scan today (and been dated 13+1) I guess it's time I joined youI'm due on 24 November having had a shock BFP back in March - we were told it was ICSI or nothing but apparently one little wriggler found its way through.
Looking forward to breathing a sigh of relief now and hopefully starting to enjoy being pregnant rather than fretting about the first 12 weeks.0 -
I'm surprised no birthing plan at 34 weeks!
My ante natal classes are run by the district midwife team. It's called preparation for birth and parenting course.
The sessions are split over four weeks as follows
Active birth workshop
When nature needs a helping hand
Bonding with your baby through feeding
Parenting session (run by health visitor)
I've no idea what to expect but mw said they are very good. I'm taking my oh with me. They are not until sept so I've a long wait yet.
I've not thought too much about my actual birthing plan which is why the mw said we will go through it next time. There's lots to think about.0 -

welcome Angeltreats, I was also brought forward a week at my 12 week scan, it's very weird isn't it, but it's another week suddenly gone. Hope you soon start enjoying your pregnancy, but feel free to vent, share etc we'll all be doing the same.0
