I think I read that BMI doesn't really count once you are pregnant. As Daisie says the weight you gain isn't fat, it's water, blood, baby etc.

My BMI at the start of IVF was 28, but was up to 31 by the time I was weighed my the midwife. She was fine about that, and sort of makes a point of not making a point of it. I have to do a GTT, but she only ticked 'over 35' as the reason rather than BMI over 30.

At my hospital there are three protocols for overweight people, but if your BMI is between 30-35 the only thing it says is if you want to go to the birthing centre then you have to discuss it with your midwife. Obviously not an issue for me.

My BMI before I started was 23. something but I've put on a stone since getting preggers and I'm only going to be 20 weeks this weekend :o

I feel like it's all the bump and boobs though and I am really hoping it slows down and doesn't start spreading everywhere else. I don't know if I am kidding myself and I am actually getting fat but just can't notice it :rotfl:

I've been eating what I want but not going mad and I'm still attending my slimming world meetings (been at target about 18 months before my BFP) which is slightly depressing getting weighed each week and seeing it go up. It keeps me eating healthy though so I don't want to stop and no doubt I will need it once the baby is born to help me get my weight back down.

I've put on about 8lb so far (21 + 3). I'd only just managed to get my BMI back up to something sensible before I got pg. After breastfeeding DS exclusively for 8 months, then carried on until he was 15 months with mixed formula / breast feeding, I've been struggling to put the weight back on ever since! I think my BMI finally hit 18.5 around Nov / Dec.... I'd gone down to about 8 stone, which at 5 foot 8 was very low for me. It was partly that reason that I had to scale back the bf'ing (as well as being back at work full time).

I'm booked in for a GTT as well, but that's because my Dad is diabetic, and I'll get my anti D jab at the same time. No more appointments until then, because I only get the 28 week one, not 24 weeks as it's my second child.

I managed to get a bit of relaxation time yesterday because my Dad kept DS entertained. I am still feeling exhausted though :( I had a slight cold last week, but it's left me with a cough that seems to start up in the early hours of the morning, and then it takes me ages to get back to sleep. Ah well, this time next week we'll be on holiday :) It's also the last teaching week of term, so it should all quieten down when I get back.

    Hi Ladies

My BMI has gone up to 32 so am classed as high risk in my area but there's also my condition etc so they're being extra careful with me. If my BMI had been 31 they may not have bothered booking me in for the GTT as the cut off is 30.

I had lost 3 stone in a year and the last time I weighed myself was bak in January and I've put on a stone (7kgs) between then and my booking in appointment. I've given up on being strict with myself but am reaching for fruit and vege rather than junk if I can but if I feel like chocolate or cake I'll eat it.

Sewit - yes yes yes every time I get into bed my nose stuffs up. I'm completely find during the day and evening but as soon as I get in bed and lay down my nose gets stuffy. My friend said that she had a cold for her whole pregnancy and as soon as she gave birth it went so it is a symptom.

  • Pregnancy rhinitis ladies. It's rubbish. Basically the membranes in your nose get irritated due to the higher blood volume so you end up stuffy. I've been using sinus spray to relieve it or I wouldn't have slept since week 8! I researched the drugs in the spray and I'm happy with what I've read.

I've not gained anything yet (21 weeks) but I was 13 stone 5 & 5'7" to start with so my bmi was slightly over 30. I just think my body is lulling me into a false sense of security and one day i'll jump on the scales and be 3 stone heavier! :)

Daisi, I struggle with back pain due to an old herniated disc and sciatica. I find that rubbing a tennis ball into the painful bit helps loosening it up.

I've got the stuffy nose as well. :(

My bmi at booking in was 35 :( but I've only gained 3lb since then which is respectable in my mind. Today was my first time at the hospital when they didn't weigh me which was a bit of a surprise.

we had our 20 week scan today, and it turns out I'm hatching a monster - the little thing was smushed up against my placenta with no intention of moving so not all the checks could be made, and they weren't able to tell what team we're in, so I'm back at the hospital in 3 weeks in the hope that the little bu99er is a bit better behaved. What they could see was fine, just the heart, face and hands that they couldn't see properly.

my sugar testing is still going fine, they have decided I have to test again for a week at 24 weeks and again the week before my week 28 scan, and if my sugars are still normal they will discharge me from the diabetic consultant :( yay! so then I would only have growth scans, the following one being at 34 weeks which could mean I can have them at my local surgery.
Oh they seem to have this new policy as well, first time mums over 40 (way to make me feel really really old!) are now being given 1x baby aspirin per day as 'research' indicates it can help reduce the risk of pre-eclampsia, I certainly not heard that before, but consultant had a prescription written for me as I walked in the door.

Just need to shift this headache now :(

Oh the headaches are a killer aren't they :( hope yours goes soon Lemon Tree. Glad to hear your appointment went well but how annoying about the scan...reminds me of my 12 week scan when baby was moving around like a lunatic meaning they could not get any of the measurements/checks, they had to go internal and we were in there for an hour and twenty minutes before she was satisfied she had seen enough! Came out into the waiting room to a lot of VERY annoyed looking ladies waiting for scans :o

Been watching more OBEM today and I had a fleeting, really weird feeling of actually looking forward to labour! Not sure what is wrong with me but don't worry, it soon passed :rotfl:

Had a bizarre thing today. Woke up with a really nasty pain concentrated in one specific spot down low to the left. Had it all day and was not really feeling any movements either. Then suddenly while I was laying on the sofa I felt an almighty strong movement, and immediately the pain disappeared! Wonder if the baby was poking me in a weird place hurting me all day and then it moved?

had my headache all day Daisy, but then I had it on Friday last week as well. Know I'm in for a horrible day at work tomorrow, would like to ring in but it would just cause me more problems in the long run so not worth the stress.
My scan was 50 mins late this morning, no indication as to why at all. seeing the consultant and nurses was a lot quicker but then had to wait another 50mins for the bloomin prescription, the only upside was that in the last wait I wasn't desperate for a wee!
Daisy I have to admit I don't think I've felt the baby move but I have felt it pressing up against something at times, mostly in one spot where the head was today apparently.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say I'm starting to feel tiny movements. Its only when I lie down and relax, and it could be digestion stuff, but does seem to be right down the the middle of my uterus, rather than around in the normal intestiney area. Would be lovely if I was! Very faint though, so I suspect it will be a long time before I'm sure.

I swear work makes me nauseous, and/or the tube. Been feeling not quite right all day. And I am SO unproductive! Anyway, off home now.
