  • Is it too early to think about antenatel classes? Is anyone planning on doing the NCT ones? I have been told they get booked up quickly so I have registered but cant decide whether to go for it or do the NHS ones, mainly because Im not sure I can justify the £250 cost! Although I think they would be good to meet new people.
  • Hi,

Just a quick note to say that we've had the 20 week scan and all looks well. Bump was very wriggly yet still not in a helpful position. But with a bit of me moving about and emptying my bladder she managed to get all the measurements.

Bump was rather shy about letting us see whether they're a boy or a girl - but the sonographer said *probably* a girl (but that was based mostly on not being able to see any indication that it was a boy, if you see what I mean!), but she really didn't get a good view so we don't really know.

    Good luck today AquamarineMonkey!

We're booked in for NHS classes and NCT ones. We're new to the area and so feel the need to make contact with other new mums!

  • Moonbabe glad your baby was fine after it gave you a scare- I tend to find eating anything sugary tends to get baby moving if it's being a bit lazy! Is it giving birth you're worried about or the actual place where you're giving birth?

Gemma - I'm 20+4 and not booked onto any antenatal classes yet, I don't know if I'm eligible for the NHS ones as it's my 2nd baby and I don't see my midwife again until 28 weeks so it might be too late then, although I do have a couple of consultant appointments before then, so not sure if they will mention anything about them.

Bumblebee - Glad all was well with baby at the scan :) do you feel more reassured now? It's a shame the sonographer couldn't be sure it's a girl, but they can never give a 100% answer even if they think they are sure!

Our scan went well, baby was being a wriggler but the sonographer managed to get all the measurements eventually by poking and shaking a few times. Baby had it's legs together and crossed at the start but luckily it changed position several times during the scan and we were able to see the 3 lines that confirmed she is a little girl!
Everything looked OK with heart, stomach, brain, kidneys etc and she is measuring the right size so my due date stays the same.:j

Just changing myself to Team Pink. I think this was the last list posted - it was way back on about page 3.

Bumblebee do you want me to change you to pink too?
  • Congrats on good scans Bumblebee and Aquamarinemonkey :)

My midwife was somewhat taken aback at me asking re antenatal classes at my 18 week appointment.

I'm seeing her again tomorrow, to get re-weighed on the consultants request. Sorry if TMI but I had some odd discharge today so I'm glad I'm seeing her tomorow!

  • congratulations on the scans aquamarine and bumblebee :) and yay aquamarine for joining team pink! and maybe bumblebee too hehe!

I feel a bit strange today, just finished a 12 hour shift and I feel tired and uncomfortable. also TMI alert but I'm getting really fed up with the amount of...discharge?! i get? I know it's probably normal from googling it. please don't say it's just me!

Gemma iv booked my NHS antenatal classes because they get full quickly apparently. I considered nct but decided I couldn't justify the expense.

    23 weeks tomorrow :)

I felt the same yesterday after a 12 hour shift. But day off today so i'm taking it easy before 2 more 12 hour shifts thurs and fri. The head nurse said i could work 8 hour shifts if i need to, but it means me going into work 5 days a week, so adds time 2 hours of journeys per week ... and once you're at work, 4 hours more isnt really that much :o but if i get any problems or anything i'll defo go onto 8 hour shifts to be able to rest in the evening.

The discharge may be from being more active throughout the day ??

yeah I can definitely see what you mean about doing 8 hour shifts with the travelling time! I'm lucky in that I live 5 minutes away from my office, I work in the community but the furthest away place I go is 25 minutes! I actually owe hours at the moment due to lots of people cancelling visits over Christmas so not my fault but I still have to make them up! so I did 45 hours last week and I'll be doing 45 hours this week and I still won't be up to date. frustrating really :( good thinking about the discharge, I didn't think of that.

ahh the life of a shift worker! x

Thank you. It isn't the actual birth I'm scared of I think, it was the hospital! As I went in late at night they put me in one of the delivery rooms and I think it was all just a bit scary for my liking! So many machines and very clinical.

I have a midwife appointment today so I am going to ask about a tour of the midwife lead unit and the labour ward, see if that helps to put my mind at rest a little!
