    Ok clothes!

I haven't really been 'proper' clothes shopping yet (waiting to know the sex) but I have picked up little bits and pieces that I either thought were cute or were on sale so we have...

    5 pack first size socks
    'New baby' vest
    0-3 months vest
    0-3 months baby gro
3-6 months baby gro (a souvenir one from Boston lol!)
5 pack plain white first size bodysuits
New baby fleecy pram suit/outer garment thing
New baby set containing body suit and baby gro
    2 'newborn' size baby gros
    1 0-3 months outfit

I just looked at the multipack of plain white body suits that is the only remotely practical thing I have bought and realised that apparently 'first size' is only up to 7.8 lbs....so baby may never even fit into it! I am scared of having a giant baby as hubby and is siblings were all 10lbers

I have no idea how much you need of what, or what the sizes mean, or how much you need of each size. Argh!

Haha! My mum said she never did too, and she's had five babies!

I'm terrible. My oh never gets embarrassed by wind, toilet habits or anything. He wouldn't be bothered by me, but I just feel awkward, I'm an idiot.

I'm so scared of the birth part. I'm starting to wonder if I will cope! I mean I now I'll have to cope, but I don't know how!

Been looking at real nappies but I worry baby won't be comfy and the nice fleecy ones can cost £700 a set

My mum has bought me all my newborn baby clothes and I cried because they are so beautiful. She's going to wash them all in soap flakes, iron them and give me them near the time.

On the nhs website it says this

Babies grow very quickly. All you need for the first few weeks are enough clothes to make sure that your baby will be warm and clean.
    You’ll probably need:
six stretch suits (all-in-ones) for both day and night, or four stretch suits and two nightdresses (nighties) for the night – use socks or bootees with the nightie if it’s cold
two cardigans, wool or cotton rather than nylon, and light rather than heavy – several light layers of clothing are best for keeping your baby warm
    four vests
a shawl or blanket to wrap your baby in
a wool or cotton hat, mittens, and socks or bootees for going out if the weather is cold – it’s better to choose close-knitted patterns rather than those with a loose knit, so that your baby's fingers and toes won't get caught
a sun hat for going out if it's hot or the sun is bright

I've got way more than that but as a guide it's good.

I've got three pram suits too. Like onesies but nicer :)

I have seen that too but it doesn't seem like anywhere near enough to me! I have heard people say that babies sometimes need changing a few times a day if they get poo everywhere or sick on themselves or whatever..,if you only had the number of clothes stated on the NHS website you'd soon run out and would need to be washing tiny loads of laundry constantly!

I agree. I've prob got far too many. My mum went a bit crazy and I've got a few bits too. I keep looking in all the shops and having to stop myself!

I wouldn't recommend starting on washable nappies straight away - we waited about 2 months before we got ours. Just because it's hard enough dealing with a tiny baby without having to sort out extra washing too! We have Flip nappies. 8 outers and 21 inners do about 3 days of daytime use only. We still use disposables overnight as DS gets quite soggy and washables aren't quite as absorbent. Also check with your local council - many of them offer you cashback for buying washables.

We had tons of clothes and got through a lot with DS, but you'll probably be given them when baby arrives, so it's not worth buying too much in advance. We'd have got through the clothes on the NHS list above in a day!

I pooed in labour. Only a little though! I'm feeling quite relaxed about labour this time as I've done it before, but it was pretty daunting first time around. Just use whatever pain relief you need to get through it :) I coped a lot better when I was telling myself that I could cope, if that makes sense. It was harder to deal with the pain if I let myself think that I couldn't cope with it.

    Scan tomorrow, very excited :)

Good luck with your scan Bluebell! Nice to have some wisdom from someone who has been there before for us first timers, too :)

Everyone always says you will get given loads of clothes when baby comes but I really don't think we will. I just can't think who would buy them for us! Maybe we have an abnormally small number of friends. Lol :o

Well I just spoke to a GP on the phone and I explained what had been happening and that I wasn't sure about going back to work tomorrow. He immediately said don't go back if you are still bleeding and has signed me off for another week. I feel like a weight has been lifted. I have let work know and they were lovely. Hopefully it is just a little blip and I will be back soon for the rest of term. I have had a number of colleagues been signed off for their whole pregnancies so I am not the first...or the worst! By some stroke of luck they actually employed a temporary teacher after Easter to cover some lessons of a teacher who just left, but he has loads of blank time on his timetable - so he can cover lots of my lessons and at least he is an actual English teacher so they are not missing out as much.

I think I just need to rest and get myself together over the next week because I do not want this to turn into me being off sick for ages.

Thanks to everyone who gave advice x

Great news Daisie. The fact that you feel so relieved means it definitely was the right decision. Now go back to putting your feet up and watching bargain hunt! Those daytime TV shows don't watch themselves you know. ;)
