  • Disney, sorry for your loss. It's tough losing a grandparent at the best of times, I can't imagine how much harder it would be in this situation. xx
  • Daisi- so glad that there's a cause for the bleeding. In your position I would put another sick note in simply because I wouldn't want the stress of work and the bleeding at the same time.

With regard to Nappies I'm buying reusables. I've spoken to a nappy guru to figure out what set will suit my budget and how many I'll need about (15 in case anyone is interested if you're planning on washing every other day). I've found these: http://www.thenappygurus.com/nappy-packs/NG01.html which I'm planning on buying this week as there's 20% off at the moment. I can then add to my collection as baby grows though these are marketed as birth to potty.

I had my 20 week scan yesterday. Baby was very uncooperative and stubborn. Point blank refused to give us any decent scan pictures but everything is looking exactly right and baby is developing well so that's all I'm really bothered about. We might book a 3/4D scan when I get to 30 weeks. We are team yellow by choice. :)

I've managed to find a nursery set (drawers, cot bed and change table) for £80. It was the set we were looking at buying in ikea until we realised that we didn't have £400 so am pretty made up. We're collecting it on Saturday. :)

Monty- I'm not freaking out about birth- I'm freaking out about placenta.... I HATE the stuff. Seriously, it knocks me sick (I deal with it at work). The idea of having to deliver placenta makes me want a natural birth followed by a placenta c-section! :) I wouldn't worry too much about grooming or pooping. I'm sure once you're in active labour you'll be all "and not one sh i t was given"! :) I've told OH he gets the poop net- he went a bit green. lol.

Hahahahaha! I can't stop thinking about it!

I saw some reusable nappies but they were about £23 each and I think that's expensive! Will look at your link now

Monty I keep thinking about it but I am thinking about the PAIN. I am fully aware I will poo! I keep trying to convince hubby that he is going to have to start helping me keep tidy down there but he is not keen....I may or may not go and get a wax close to my due date. I have never had one before though! I am not so much worried about people thinking it is messy (who cares) but I am more worried about hygiene aspects.

In fact I was lying in bed last night thinking/worrying about giving birth. It is weird because I feel completely disconnected from it. Like, I can't imagine myself doing it! I can imagine myself being pregnant (obviously...as I am) and I can imagine myself with a newborn but I absolutely cannot put myself in the situation of actually getting the baby out. It just feels alien and like something that happens to other people. I am rubbish with pain as it is so I am already so petrified of the birth. :(

Daisyegg that's exactly how I feel. I've got the worlds lowest pain threshold and I won't even break wind infront of oh so how on earth am I going to cope. I can't bring myself to go for a wax I'm too embarrassed even if they do it every day.
I'm terrified. If there was a go to sleep option and wake up with a baby I think I'd take it.

I find the concept of giving birth entirely unnatural, despite it being the 'most natural' thing in the world.

    My consolations are:

    a) I am up the head end. I have several friends who have their mws encourage the birth partner to get involved down the action end if you know what I mean.
    b) The pain will prevent me giving two hoots what else is going on.
    c) It's not my job to clean up. Hoping the placenta just slips out and it will be others dealing with that.
    d) At the end of everything, I assume I get first cuddle or longest cuddle if DH does the cord cutting thing (do people do this?)

We have bought reusuable nappies off Ebay. Size 1 and 2 I think. We also got some disposables from Aldi size 1. I am also assuming DH can be sent to shops once we have an idea of what we're doing.

Thanks for the website info tcod. I found the following helpful for looking at information generally also: http://www.goreal.org.uk/.

Forgot to say - good skills on the nursery set!
    Met DH to be 2010
    Moved in and engaged 2011
    Married 2012
    Bought a house 2013
    Expecting our first 2014 :T

Oh monty I'm sure we will forget about all dignity in childbirth!

No idea how you don't break wind in front of your OH...you must be fit to burst lol! I never used to but as soon as I was pregnant I have had such prolific wind :o right from about 6 weeks pregnant. No way I could avoid doing it in front of hubby so we just make a joke out of it! Sometimes when he talks to my bump before sleep he even tells the baby how pumpy mum was today :o It isn't so bad because it is all just air - nothing stinky. If I didn't get it out I would have such bad pains.

We have no secrets or embarrassment between us anymore...and it is nice actually. I'm still hoping I will be able persuade him to take over bits tidying duties but he says he would be too worried about cutting me. I guess if he won't do it I will definitely get waxed but I don't fancy that. I go to my salon quite often for nails, eyebrows, facials, massages (well no massages since being pregnant) and I can't imagine looking the ladies in the eye knowing they had seen me knicker less! :o but needs must - I think I would rather be neat and tidy for childbirth purely as I would feel cleaner and more hygienic afterwards (particularly when you apparently bleed for weeks and weeks) so if I have to go for a wax I will manage it.

Well this was a nice over-sharing personal message! Sorry :rotfl:

As a retired midwife (ill health) don't worry about pooing. It is easily sorted and we are VERY used to it!

Its a good sign because it means the baby is coming down and due to be born soon. Most women poo a bit but it's not usually a poo fest as onset of labour usually empties your bowels.

As for shaving - don't need to - it makes no difference. The only thing that ever made a difference was a stud (ear-ring) in the lady bits and I had to insist that the lady removed it as the head came down!!!!!

Daisy - please go sick if you are spotting x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Nappies - we have bought two packs of Size 1 and one of Size 2 (I think there are something like 50 or 70 in a pack). I don't think I will buy more than that because I was doing lots of research into sizes and there are loads if people online saying that their baby never even fitted Size 1 and they had to go straight to 2. Equally, there are lots of people saying that brands differ and you need to figure out which brand you like. I don't want to buy loads and loads of one brand and then find for some reason we don't like it. So I have a few to get us started and there is a 24hr Tesco five mins away, so I'm sure hubby will be able to pop and get whatever we need.

As for clothes....I am actually not sure. I am going to pootle along to the baby's room to make a list!

    Thank you x

My sister said she was told by midwives during her OB-GYN rotations that EVERY woman poos and even if she thinks she doesn't (my mum says she never did in her labours) it just means the midwives were so efficient whipping it away that the woman didn't even realise it happens!

As for the shaving I am not worried about what people, think but don't like hair getting all clogged up with blood and gore. Yuk yuk.

Thanks for the advice - I have called GP this morning and am waiting for a call back. I will see what they think and probably get signed off for a week.
