t2d - are you yellow? Seems sadly colourless currently...Met DH to be 2010
Moved in and engaged 2011
Married 2012
Bought a house 2013
Expecting our first 2014 :T0 -
just popping in to say that I'd take the week off at least daisiegg especially if just the thought of work is stressing you out. I totally understand "teacher guilt" if you don't mind me calling it that, my DH is a teacher and the amount of times I've had to cajole him into staying off work when he has literally been at deaths door is ridiculous. I think though you've had an awful time of things over the past week and need a chance to re-group and catch your breath at the very least x0

I am getting scarily close to the top of that list!0

If however you mean having a week of gentle walking, getting some beauty treatments like your nails or hair done, catching up on admin, shopping, going for lunch/tea/coffee, catching up with friends in the interests of not stressing yourself out physically and emotionally, reading and so on, I say rock on. From all accounts motherhood comes with guilt so you might as well get used to it!
My friend worked over 12 hour days in the City and had regular overseas trips which if they coincided with weekends, she was expected to be back in the office on Monday regardless. She had 6 months off and returned. Within about 6 months of returning to work she was pg again and followed the same pattern but with a 90 minute commute each way.
I DON'T KNOW HOW SHE MANAGES THIS.
Yes, some people can and do manage these kinds of crazy schedules. Do you know what? I can't. I was lucky that I had some left over leave and did a lot of 4 days weeks in Feb and March, plus the recent bank holidays have helped. I do 9-5 and some days that's too much. This is our first child and there are no step children or pets requiring my attention. And I have STILL found it hard.
If I was bleeding I would want to take some extra time to recover physically and emotionally.
Wot she said!! Exactly right. If you don't feel ready (either mentally or physically) then don't go. Especially as it sounds like you have a tough physical job.
Take the guilt. I know what you mean as I take so much sick leave from my poor employer, but they are humans and do understand. It's harder letting down the kids though I'm sure.
And when (if) you do go back can you talk to your head about getting assistance with the carrying, and getting better breaks. It's so hard to ask for I understand, but hopefully that can make a difference. In this modern age can you ask for a strapping young student to be your 'assistant'?
Re bedrest - its seems like it is recommended at the drop of a hat in the US, but it's going out of favour in the UK. It depends on your doctor. The lack of consistency tells you that no-one is really sure if it helps or hinders. Having been on semi-bedrest for a month I can tell you it's caused me physical problems. My leg and back muscles have weakened, and I'm now getting a lot of back and hip pain. I went to the osteopath today and she said the general muscle weakening is making any pregnancy type pains much worse.
Anyway, hope you feel better soon. Take the time you need. With the stress you wouldn't be much use at work anyway.0 -
Thanks ladies. I don't mean bed rest (god forbid!) but basically...not being at work rest lol.
I will discuss with hubby tonight but I already know what he will say - this is the man who said 'why not hand your notice in now?' as soon as I fell pregnant! He thinks mine and baby's well being is much more important than work.
Only thing I am worried about is the longer I am off (I have missed 3 days so far - I work part time on a two week timetable so one week I am in 5 days but the other only in 3, and luckily this week has been that week) the harder it is to go back and pick up with my classes. But I am wondering if maybe going back next Friday instead of this Friday might be an idea. Monday is a bank holiday so I will only miss Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. That would take my total of missed days to 6 which I don't think is horrendous to go back after. I would prefer to go back on a Friday either way so it is just one day then weekend, and Monday is less daunting!
purcy you are absolutely right about 'teacher guilt'. It is horrid! Often trying to set cover work is harder than just going in and dragging yourself through the day. Luckily I have fantastic colleagues who have sorted out my cover for me this week since I texted my head of department from the hospital on Thursday night - they put their heads together and sorted it all out so I didn't have to plan lessons and email them in. They don't normally do that though so normally a day off sick for me involves 1-2 hours on the computer at 5am typing up cover lessons to send in. Not fun!0 -
I'll be yellow on the list.....I'm having a suprise!0

Btw this thread is so amazing. Thank you all for your advice and support!0

Hey ladies!
Glad to hear you got good news at the hospital daisie :-)
I rang the midwife for the first time tonight. I hadn't felt baby move much the last 24-36 hours so rang just to see what they said.
It was the usual drink or eat something sugary, then lie in your left to feel for movement.
Felt the wiggling about almost straight away so it was such a relief.
I am 24+1 but if you ladies don't mind, I'm going to wait until I hit 25w b4 I move to the next thread?
Has anyone been buying clothing or nappies?
We are team yellow so I'm not buying too much but wondered how much stuff you plan to get? And what sizes? I have packs of 6 sleep suits & body suits aged 0-3. I was going to get a pack of vests in the same size, then all of the above in new born - depending on what weight range it's for? 0-3 looks a huge!
Plus my SIL had a baby girl last week & she was little over 6lb.
Last question lol! But what size of nappies have u bought?
I have:
2 x 74 size 1 nappies
2 x 56 size 2 nappies
1 x 90 size 3 nappies
Would you buy more size nappies? They cover 6-13lbs
Thanks in advance & sorry for rambling on a bit :eek:0 -
Oh god I don't even know what the sizes mean! I'm going to be stood there not knowing what I'm buying0
-
Lol monty it tells you on the packets. Sizes in lbs & KG. Otherwise I would be clueless!0
