Hi all
I had my first meeting with my one2one midwife last night, 5pm, she came to my house. Everything great, she is lovely, and I can't wait for my next scan now. She explained everything and it sounds really good. So I will get either her or her 'buddy' through my whole pregnancy and afterwards for six weeks.... apart from the birth! She said that the hospitals don't have insurance for other midwives to work there so we will have unknown midwives at the birth. Bit gutted really but I can't bring myself to have a homebirth.
So I was just wondering how this compares with NHS treatment. Is it usual to not know the midwife who helps you give birth, or would you usually have met them before?
Glad you're resting Daisi - it will do you the world of good0 -

As far as I know it is usual not to know the midwife who helps you give birth. I certainly won't, because my midwives I see during the pregnancy come from a completely different hospital to where I will give birth! Also even if you were seeing midwives from your local hospital during pregnancy I guess there is no guarantee that one you are familiar with would actually be working at the time you go into labour. On OBEM it does seem like often the midwives introduce themselves and are often not familiar to the woman.0 -
Great news Daisie. The fact that you feel so relieved means it definitely was the right decision. Now go back to putting your feet up and watching bargain hunt! Those daytime TV shows don't watch themselves you know.
I will have you know I have watched no daytime TV...instead I have sorted laundry and cleaned the kitchen and done some marking to send in to work.
Erm...I am not great at resting!0 -

Don't worry. The first day is always hard, with some training and focus you can build up your stamina to 6-7 hours watching daily.
We can allow some laundry folding at the same time, but only in short bursts. And don't forget your napping quota!
Pointless is at 5.15pm. Quality viewing.0 -

Now napping I AM good at!I have been having an afternoon nap on most days pretty much the whole pregnancy. It is amazing.
Popping to visit my sister this afternoon. She was meant to come here but doesn't want to as she is stressed and busy studying for finals. I am pregnant and bleeding, but whatever... LolI don't mind really. Need to go past the dr to pick up my sick note for work anyway.
Is it dangerous to start watching the 11 episodes of One Born Every Minute I have recorded...?0 -
:rotfl: Monty and Daisie I can't believe that you're only just breaking wind in front of your DH's there's not much that I haven't done in front of my DH
. We're pretty open about everything lol.
Daisie and anyone else that's never been waxed down there, don't worry you don't go knickerless you just move the knickers out of the way of the waxing - they see nothing and if they do they've seen it before. I'll probably just use the epilady or get DH to do it for me as he's done it before.
Also really glad that you feel better after getting your sick note Daisie definitely shows it was the right thing to do and like T2D says get relaxing woman. Even when I'm sorting out clothes I'm sat on the bed watching crap TV or a movie.
AFM feeling pretty blah the last couple of days, felt really sick last night (even ice cream didn't help ) and it's followed on to today. My hips have started to hurt me and I'm hoping that it's just stretching that's making them hurt and not the abnormal growth in them.
Met with my Obstetric Consultant on Tuesday who was happy with everything that I was doing and wasn't too worried about my mobility typically cos my hips started after I'd seen her. She did say that due to the issues I've had with my hips in the past that I wouldn't be able to go to the birthing centre as they're more prepared for issues like mine in the delivery suite. I'm a bit disappointed as I would've loved to have had a water birth but I know realistically with my condition etc that being surrounded by medical staff is a plus.
Now to just get through my other appointments which are:
02/06/14 – 18 week Midwife appointment
16/06/14 – 20 week scan
17/06/14 – Obstetric consultant
28/07/14 – Anaesthetic consultant
06/08/14 – Glucose test
plus whatever extra Midwife appointments are assigned and my Counselling sessions.
At least I know I'm covered for everything oh and the baby has it's first appointment in March with my Genetic Counsellor. I feel a bit guilty about this appointment as it's not for me which I know sounds stupid but hey parents are meant to feel guilty aren't they:rotfl:.

Alioops I have some hip pain and my colleague advised that I go and see an osteopath. His wife had pain in the first pregnancy and let it go, but for the second had it addressed very early on and the whole experience was much better. You can get a referral from your GP, and it might take a while to get an appointment so worth starting early.
I saw one yesterday (privately) at a nearby gym, and she was lovely and identified that I had an old hip problem that was being exacerbated by the pregnancy ligament loosening hormones. I’d been having really bad back and hip pain for the last few weeks, but I had put it down to surgery recovery. She said the lack of movement, plus the surgery (which incidentally ruined any abdominal muscles I had) would all contribute, and combined with the old injury it was good I saw her early. She made me sit in my bra and leggings in front of a mirror and showed me issues with my movement. I am so fat!! My tummy is so flabby and soft, only going to get worse as she pointed out due to the broken abdominal muscles. Of course it didn’t help that she was young, fit and petite… but I must stop worrying about these things!
Apparently I have Trochanteric Bursitis, or Hip bursitis. Basically a minor injury to my left hip. She said it happened from running or trauma to the area. She asked if I ran (I snorted) and I had to admit that 2 years ago the pavement apparently leapt up and threw me onto some stairs, resulting in a huge bruise – and a minor twinge ever since. I say ‘apparently’ as my memory of the incident is slightly impaired… perhaps by a small amount of alcoholic spirit. Got to love a pregnancy problem, that can be categorised under *fell over drunk*.
Anyway, the treatment was quick and fantastic, I feel so much better already. The area was actually slightly warm still which shows it is still inflamed, so I have to ice it every night for a few weeks. A relief really as I was worried that I was already in a fair bit of pain everytime I stood up from a chair, especially at work, but hopefully this can be resolved – ready for the general backaches and pains to come!0 -
22 weeks today, only 17 weeks until my little man is here (c-section at 39 weeks). Just weighed myself and I've now put on 5lbs, did my first maternity clothes shop yesterday as I now look pregnant as opposed to fat
. Ive been nesting, the house is getting a good clean up and change around and we are giving it a lick of paint to freshen everywhere up.... my back is feeling the hours i've put in now. Im super organized this pregnancy and now have everything for the baby and my hospital bag. Everything is coming together...all I need now is a baby :rotfl:Hope all you ladies are well x

Thanks for this Time2deal, it was originally though that I had hip bursitis but turns out the actual bone has grown deformed so rather than being smooth they are quite lumpy and bumpy so rub against my hip joints. I might still look into it though as hey what's one more professional joining in on my pregnancy journey :rotfl:.
Love that your cause is from falling over drunk though. I've fallen over twice quite badly onto my left hip the first time was in the middle of a disabled bay ironically on the day I received my letter advising I'd been awarded disability living allowance and the second hubby dropped me when showing off how he would 'dip' me during our wedding dance - needless to say there was no dip :rotfl:.
teabag I'm already wearing maternity pants as my bloat means that nothing fits me. DH very kindly bought me 2 pairs of jeans at the weekend and a friend has lent me 2 pairs of work pants and a couple of pairs of jeans but those jeans are a bit big for me yet.
lollypops I work from home on Wednesdays and love it. We don't have a desk so I'm either on the couch with the TV playing or on the bed with the TV playing. It's brilliant to just have a lie in and know that at 5pm I can shut off the laptop and get on with whatever needs doing.
Oh and before I forget if anyone's suffering from heartburn and is struggling with gaviscon, rennies etc my nurse friend said that love hearts and refreshers have the same action in reducing the acid and I have found that they help a bit when my stomach is a bit off too.
Oh and anyone else been prescribed Adcal, they're lovely lemon flavoured chewable calcium and vitamin D tablets bleurgh was so glad I had a drink next to me to wash out my mouth.DEBTS ARE BEING DEALT WITH AS BEST WE CAN:heart: Married my prince on 27/08/2011Baby Girl born 21/10/14:D:D:D:D
