AFAIK, there is a slightly higher success rate with a blatocyst (so 5dt or over). However, there is also a higher chance of then ending up at day 5 with nothing left to transfer, and nothing to freeze.

Our clinic always uses blasts where possible as that mimics whereabouts the embryo would be at that stage - a 3day embryo probably wouldn't have made it to the uterus naturally, but in IVF that's obviously where they put it lol.

However, I don't think the differences are enough to worry about - and it's always been my experience that the clinic will advise the best course of action depending on how your embryos are developing, to give them the best chance.

Tbh there's still so many unknowns. No one yet know why a 'perfect' blast may not implant or develop correctly, or why a slightly worse looking 2dt may turn out great. Just have to trust the clinic and keep everything crossed! Best of luck x :)
  • Just checking in quickly, no ET for me tomorrow as this morning I managed to spectacularly fall down the step outside our front door and break my ankle in two places :(
I'm on a ward in our local hospital waiting for an op to put screws and a plate in tomorrow. Clinic were lovely about it though, we're gonna start again in 8 weeks or so when everything has healed.

Hugs to you all (and apologies for any typos, I'm on my phone) xx
  • Ouch! Hope your op goes well tomorrow. Only one step & you broke it in 2 places? You must have landed pretty badly. Hope you aren't too shaken up about it. Make sure you take full advantage of being looked after ;)! At least it happened today and not after ET otherwise that would have been extra stress you could do without.

    Thinking of you tomorrow xx

  • Hope your appt goes well Shrimpy. It's a while since I had my first referral appt but they discussed options, I had a scan with dildocam & was booked in for a laparoscopy. We are unexplained but it may differ depending on what your reason is.

The one where they booked us in for IVF it was a scan to count follicles, blood tests for HIV/Hep B & C and then checked when the earliest date which was suitable for both us and the hospital.

Frozen Good Luck today, hope you aren't too sore after your op! Xx

  • Just to give you an update, I rang this morning and was told that the 4 fertilised eggs are all healthy and they are going to bring my wife in on Sunday morning, so far so good.

  • That's good to hear, Live! :). Keep us updated on how things go. Hope your wife is recovering well after her egg collection. Is Sunday a 3 or 5 day transfer?
