  • Thanks GTS :)! Your test date is the day after mine. Scary times ahead. Frozen will be a couple of days later. Hopefully it's a triple whammy :)

I think 2 is definitely the way to go rather than just having one in the hope that at least one embryo implants, obviously there is a risk of twins but we are told of the risks at the time. Just before my second transfer I read about this couple who had been trying for years, had ivf and had 2 embryos transferred. They ended up with quads :eek: I told my OH about this after driving out of the clinic & I definitely noticed his face drain of colour :rotfl::rotfl:

Live 4 is a good amount. That's over 50% fertilisation which is good. Some of those 7 may have been too mature or immature so that may have been the reason they never fertilised.

I think with ivf it's a luck game as I've heard of people that have perfect blastocytes/embryos and have had a bfn and others with crappy embryos that have resulted in pregnancies. I read this yesterday. Makes you think Not Suitable for Transfer

It is definitely a roller coaster ride this whole process. Wishing you and your wife lots of good luck xx

    Thanks for the reply.

Would be happy with 1 or 2 though if 3 or 4 I think I would need a 2nd job and an extension on the house.

    Exciting times I hope.

    Cheers

Haha we would be the same! It said it was a 1 in 2 million chance so pretty unlikely. I was wrong it was just the one embryo they had transferred :eek: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2324817/You-wait-years-baby-FOUR-come--theyre-girls.html

  • Oooh a man in the thread that's new! Hi there LNL

I think that the percentages must increase, if you start out with a 30% and people drop out at each stage then I think if you get to ET then it's got to be higher. I wish you and your wife the best of luck. My OH says he can't wait for egg collection then he's free to have a beer!!

That was my thinking is each part of the process went fine then the chances would surely go up.

One more thing, this might be a silly question but if the 2 eggs fail do we have to go through another long process to get the 2 other fertilised eggs put in?

    Cheers

Depending on the condition of the embryos (not eggs) on ET day, some of they may be frozen. If so, the process to transfer them is simpler than a full fresh cycle (still a bit of faff, but a lot better).

If you google FET there's some great explanations.

ETA: the clinic/hospital should publish their rates at different stages of the process (eg. % live births per 3/4/5dt etc).
    eg http://www.uhcw.nhs.uk/clientfiles/File/Outcome_and_results_2014_CRM_UHCW.pdf
  • Thanks again,

I am having fun trying to work out what the appreciations mean lol

  • Sorry for all the questions.

Does it make any difference if the fertilised eggs are put in day 3 or 5?

Is the odds better either way on which day they are put in?

  • If your embryos are good enough quality and get to blastocyst stage then they may freeze them so should your cycle fail or you want to try for a sibling they can thaw them. Not everyone manages to get embryos to freeze, it is normal that some embryos will just stop growing before transfer day, in all 3 cycles I have never managed to freeze any.
As we have had none to freeze all 3 cycles have been fresh which means having to go through the whole process each time.

  • The odds are supposed to be better as some embryos arrest around day 3 so by going for a day 5 the weaker ones have been weeded out. But looking on ivf forums there are loads of women who got bfps on day 3 transfers and plenty of women with bfns with a 5 day. So who knows really?!:D
