  • Hugs Pink. So sorry it didn't work out this time. Stay strong x

If anyone else is thinking of it, I went for an acupuncture session last week.
It was pretty good. She took the fullest medical history I've ever had! Including lots of info about emotions, anxiety, pmt etc. She only used 5/6 needles as a first session and they didn't hurt. She recommends going every 2 weeks for a couple of months.
I came out feeling pretty positive. I don't know if it was the acupuncture or just a combination of having someone to talk to and "doing something". There is part of me that still thinks that it might be a load of mumbo jumbo but I'm going to keep an open mind.

Do you mind me asking roughly how much acupuncture costs? I'm thinking of getting it for my medical condition (read an article in the BMJ suggesting it may be helpful). I am aware it will put an end to my blood donations though.

  • Nice to hear from you Fairy, I've been wondering how you were getting on. Congrats on being PUPO!

I'm really curious about the acupuncture too, although we probably can't afford it ATM with all the house stuff. (On that note can I just Barclays are evil...)

    Thanks Picklekin :)

The person that I usually go to is on holiday just now, how inconsiderate his he?! :D So I managed to get a lovely lady to do my pre & post transfer and I'm booked in with her next week as she will go over some miscarriage points. Both of them charge £40 a session so it must be the going rate. She can go to the hospital and do your pre & post there for £100, I went to her as OH felt awkward about being at the hospital for so long with an acupuncturist there so she charged me £80 instead. She lived close by anyway as it took less than 10 mins to get to her.

It does certainly relax you during treatments as I usually fall asleep. The acupuncturist told me I should have went to him years ago as I had a cold uterus probably caused by using birth control (oh the irony). Since I've been going there (fortnightly since June & weekly during stims) I've found that AF is now a bright red colour and virtually no clots, oh and has now returned to a 28 day cycle.

If it's something you can afford I would definitely recommend it, if you do decide I would advise using someone that knows and understands about infertility rather than just someone that does acupuncture. I bought the Infertility Cure by Randine Lewis on eBay for about £5, which is a really good book. She tells you which acupressure points to use for IVF so you could do that instead of acupuncture as you would still be stimulating certain points.

Oh look at that I've written a novel again

Thanks all. :) Sorry to not have caught up properly on everyone else's progress. I will do soon - feeling exhausted at the moment (don't think I'm getting good quality sleep).

pickle - what's going on with Barclays? We've had mortgage shenanigans with HSBC and Santander in the last year...

Just a quick one to say that I had acupuncture and am convinced it helped me get my BFP on my 2nd IVF cycle (along with the endo scratch). My lady charged £40 for a full hour session, but once I'd been going for a few sessions, she said I could drop to 30 min sessions for £28. She also did blocks of 6 for £140 (6 for the price of 5). Worth asking around if other practitioners do this.

I also loved having someone to talk to who was 100% focused on me and had time to listen to all my silly worries and questions I was too scared to ask the clinic. I gave up other stuff so I could afford to go as I liked it so much!

Hugs PTP and good luck to those PUPO/mid-cycle.

Fairy - congrats on being PUPO - I have everything crossed for you.

Sewit - good to hear from you - not long to go now!

AFM - some may remember that DH and I are going through the adoption process. We have now finished stage 2 and our social worker is now finalising her report to submit to her manager. We saw a draft of the report last night and are pleased with it. Once the report has been approved/amended by the manager it will be submitted to those people who will form our panel in October to decide whether we have been approved to adopt or not.
  • Thanks Primmer!

Good luck on the adoption process :)! October isn't long away, exciting times ahead for you both. How long is it before you hear back? This must be the adoption equivalent of the TWW :) I am sure with such a good report from the social worker that your application will be approved. Look forward to hearing your updates xx

fairy - we get to go to panel with our social worker and they will ask us questions based on that report and then at the end of the panel meeting we will be told whether it's a yes or a no and then will need to wait a couple of weeks for the panel decision to be ratified. We first contacted this agency last October so the process up to panel will have taken a year. Then praying its a yes we have the wait till we are matched with a child and then it's back to another panel meeting!
