I agree totally, I have lost count of the number of discussions / debates we've had about this topic, in each one I've posted my opinion like in this one. It's infuriating that so many people who actually DO the mag dailies regularly, seem to share the same opinion, but that opinion is not likely to get listened to or taken on board. Thanks CP1 for raising the debate again but I don't think it's going to achieve anything.
I'm not going to bother commenting again as I am fed up of saying the same things, it seems plain that nothing's going to change so I guess I and others like me will just have to learn to put up and shut up!
but in those other threads cagsd you were all told to wait until after Christmas and they would look at it, well now it is after Christmas and we should try and sort this out once and for all.#StaySafeWishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year0 -

I have the feeling it was said to stop people talking about it, not meaning they will look into it again after xmas, just trying to keep the peace
sorry I don't know if that makes senseI know what I mean not sure anyone else will :rotfl:

When I volunteered to run the thread it was as a temporary measure, it will soon be caravan season and I will be away for 3 to 4 months during spring, summer & autumn and it will need somebody to take over when I am away. so sort out how you want it running and who you want to run it and I will support them 100%.
regards DaveI do it just for fun and whatever I win is a bonus0 -
Personally (and just because its suits my way of comping) I preferred the thread as a sticky on the main board (the one we had Pre-December).
I usually only enter the dailies once as they are posted and found it quicker to enter them all in one go (than they way they are dotted through the main board now) and popped in once a day (or whenever I had time) and get them done together (using the thanks button to see where I was up to.
If I found myself with a bit of extra time I could go through the list on the front page and enter any again that I wanted to from there (this I could still do with the way they are posted but without direct links I just can't be faffed - which is completely down to me). So I find I am entering them less than before.
Can I just also say that the old thread, in my opinion, was still on the main board and easy to find (now if your an end date comper you have to go into the regular comps sub section to find the comps before they are coming to a finish - again this is up to the individual comper).
As I say I'd prefer the old sticky on the main board back
BUT
would say that any 'special' comps (the ones that you can't find entering directly through the main magazine site) should be posted as a individual comp on the main board (they could still be added to the magazine thread as well) but this way anyone entering directly through the mag site would see them too (and please correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it these comps that were one of the reasons it changed back to the current way of posting?)0 -
I really liked the "old" thread that CP maintained. It was easy to just go through each mag, have the answers there and with just one click be taken to the comp.
I thought everyone that does the mag dailies was happy with that system and was surprised when it was changed.
Now I bookmark any that I fancy, from JDP's posts but I don't enter as many as I used to because I find it more of a hassle really.
Big thanks to JDP and others for doing all the work.0 -
I will go a long with whatever is decided. However, I think that the opinion of those who take the time to post them and maintain the thread should bear a lot more weight than the opinion of the rest of us.
Also, going off on a tangent, if all competitions are supposed to be posted on the main board, not hidden away somewhere, why are some comps, such as this one https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4750234, that are E: ONCE ONLY not on the main board too? It only has 9 thanks at the moment. A competition with £150 of vouchers as the prize would normally attract a lot more than 9 thanks if posted on the main board.
There are loads of competitions that are to my mind hidden away in the regulars board. If the mag daillies are going to be on the main board, then I think that everything else should be too.
The problem with the comp you've referred to is how would it be posted on the main board? if it was posted new every month most compers would open each time and either have entered the first time it was posted or decided not to the first time it was posted but still be having a new thread to look at every month, so it was agreed these would be left in the regs boardGood for you Jambo :T
After all it's mainly you with Fire**fly & I've also seen One Eye listing them too.
I really don't think people realise how much work there is in listing the daily mags. For all the other regular sections everyone adds to the end of the thread & a different person looks after adding them to the front page. But you are doing everything.
If you just think about every mag post you see Jambo posting weather you agree with it or not that is a lot of work.
I don't get on with it my choice, so I found a way I am happy entering them.
I think it's time to stop now, let it go it's quiet clear that the thread won't be going back to how it was so we need to move on, find a way that you can cope with & move forwards
xxx
good post LOwhichever way it is done will not suit everyone, at least this way end daters can use the sticky, as can people who like them all in a list and people who like comps posted in their own threads can enter from Main board, some people may have to adapt a little but everyone gets to see all the comps
cornishpasty1 wrote: »OK I'm saying it, as it is a debate, I prefer the way I did it, for these reasons:
1. It helped ease Daily Sticky (as was originally clogging that up)
2. A single stickied thread doesn't clogg up the main forum
3. Ease of use for entering mag dailies
4. Less work to maintain an up-to-date thread
Personally I have devised my own way of entering them now using a different programme, which imitates how it used to be.
Each to their own, but please remember the effort from those that do post links and keep thread updated
the sticky thread as it is still eases the main daily sticky
there are usually around 300 pages of comps on the min board, the mags dailies probably add another 2 or 3
what I wanted to leave until after Xmas was discussing whether the mags sticky should include direct links againI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. If any body wants it doing different they can volunteer and take on the thread and do it how they like.

then carry on you're doing a great job :T
the way mag dailies are posted now means more people get to see/enter more comps and we all want that at the end of the dayI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I'm not sure whether to say this, or not, (and I still wouldn't be saying anything now but for JDP's offer to step aside if necessary),
right here goes...... deep breath .....
Would CP1 (or anyone else) be willing to take over the thread, because, surely, unless someone is, we are going round in circles, and to a large extent, the thread will have to be run in whatever way the person in charge prefers. If there are more than one willing volunteer, then maybe we could then take a vote on each of their 'organization styles" if that makes any sort of sense. If there is only one taker, then possibly their way should be accepted by us all.
Can I just add my huge thanks everyone who helps organize and run these threads. Your hard work is really appreciated. If I have phrased anything badly then please accept my apologies, I would hate to offend anybody. Do feel free to ignore me.... my OH does:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
what I wanted to leave until after Xmas was discussing whether the mags sticky should include direct links again
OK so for jambodaveprince to do this, he would post the comp on main board, put link on mag daily sticky, THEN when adding the post to the front page CHANGE the links to direct to comp?#StaySafeWishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year0 -
I'm sorry, but this is going round in circles. CP was running an excellent thread with direct links (which everybody seems to want) when it was closed without consultation or proper explanation. If the only question is whether the mags thread should include direct links or not, there was no reason to close that thread. it should just have been requested that new mags dailies were posted on the main board and linked to that thread for Cornish to add the direct link.
It was certainly never clear that the only question to be looked at after Christmas was whether the direct links or not should be restored. There was actually never any reason to remove them as that was nothing to do with whether the comps were also on the main board or not, and I just cannot see why some people can't see that. Not a single person on this thread that I have seen has asked for the mags thread to have links t main board not direct.
I totally agree that the views of those doing the posting should carry much weight. It is just a pity that the same criteria weren't applied when the original thread was closed and those doing such a fine job running it were treated so badly.
If the only question is about direct links why is that not the poll question on this thread?
I could go on but I'm going to stop now. Absolutely fuming.
If a big corporation had treated users in this way MSE would rightly be all over them.
Apologies to everyone I have doubtless upset by this. Nothing personal is intended towards anyone and I am very grateful to all posters for all their work.0
