This is what I have found myself doing lately, but there is a risk in doing this; moreover that risk is the whole reason why this entire debate blew up: the magazines sometimes run "specials" which DON'T appear in the lists of prize draws on the mag sites. The only way we were able to find these, was from links posted on the mag thread. So if I or anyone else were to continue to enter directly from the magazine sites and bypass the mag thread, we run the risk of missing these big comps should they run again.

So for that reason I'd like to see the thread STAY but in the form it was pre-November, with direct links.

It would not be a problem because if this list is copied & pasted onto the mag thread then you can look at the specials listed on the main board or skimm down the mag thread. It still would be quicker than opening all those pages.

Like I said it may help it may not help but for the people who have not tried it give it a go

  • Sounds like I may be in the minority, but I really like how they are posted now. I do the main board every day and having them posted on there alerts me to when there are new ones - which is helpful because personally I don't have time to do all the mag dailies every day. When I do have time, I can also go through the mag daily thread and do them altogether. Best of both worlds.

Having said that, if people would prefer to have the mag daily thread link direct to the competitions rather than the thread on the main board, I don't see why that would be a problem (as long as they still ARE on the main board!).

This is my view exactly. Best of both worlds.

Also, new compers are joining every day. I see new people winning and posting about their first prize all the time. It is just easier for those of us who do not have time to read every thread and especially better for new compers.
I only started entering mag dailies again because of a couple posts made by someone around the beginning of December who thought the main board compers should be aware of some of the prizes that were available from the mag dailies.
And some people who have been comping for a while do not even know how to subscribe to a thread such as the mag dailies to receive notifications of when a new post is made.

Perhaps there really should be a poll so that we can get a better idea of how everyone feels and not just those of us who feel brave enough to post (though I'm still scared of the response to my opinion! :)).

Personally I preferred it as it was posted by cornish on the sticky with direct links. The new way clogs up the main board, makes extra work for jambo and extra time for mag daily compers without a direct link - now the mags have expanded so much time if of the essence. The thread was easy to find for those that looked for it. I don't see the point of posting on the main board as well, you aren't likely to win a mag daily from one entry so not sure of its purpose.
But I think this has all been said already, maybe a simple vote would be better.
I'd also like to add my huge thanks to both Cornish and Jambo for their postings.

Using this method would then mean that daily competitions shouldn't be posted on the main board as surely only one entry into a daily isn't worth it? A lot of people, myself included, bookmark a daily from the post that is made on the main board. And a link is also added to the daily thread ... I don't see why mag dailies should be any different?

Also with reference to the bolded text above, what about those who don't know they exist in the first place? :) Hard to look for something you don't know about.

    :)

    Very interesting reading everyone!

I'm a bit of a fence-sitter as only knew the MDs when they were in their own thread so that was what I was used to (and really loved how it was run by CP1 and others - more of a community spirit I felt), but when it reverted to the 'old' way of posting everything on the main board with links to the new thread, well I just changed my methods - like LO (I think), just entering off my own bookmarks, and not using the new MD thread unless I forgot an answer which just means I don't get a chance to 'thank' Jambo or fire**fly :o as to save time just 'skip' those comps and move on.

It doesn't sound like it is praticable to return to the pre-Christmas set up :( so moving forward, and presuming the status quo will remain, my only request would be this...

In the title of new MD comps which are deemed 'specials' (ie. NOT listed on the magazine websites, but through a unique link only) please could these be highlighted in some way?

    e.g. E: 31/01 Mag Daily SPECIAL Win a........

and a note within the post saying something like:
NOT IN ONLINE PRIZE DRAW LIST - UNIQUE LINK ONLY

This would mean those who work off the main board will be aware it is a special not necessarily listed online, and can bookmark that link, and those who work off the MD thread will continue to do so in their usual way.

    HTH :D

  • My two-peneth... I HATE the way it is now and the main board looks messy.

Will my life change for the better if we go back to the old way- probably not, but my blood pressure may go down :p
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(
  • like them all in one thread. just makes trying to catch up with posted comps harder when you have them all posted in single threads

Dont like all the different daily comps all being on the main thread in fact ignore them all now. All being on the one thread made much more sense and you could look up anything if you wanted to. I vote to going back to how it was!

When they had their own little thread the mag dailies seemed organised ie on a Tuesday all the new comps were usually posted by our lovely posters in nice pretty neat bundles - one for each mag. Now they seem to be dispersed all over the main board throughout a Tuesday and are all in a muddled. At least when they were posted in little bundles you could login to one mag at a time and enter all the new comps together and it was easier to count how many shares you might need to do for going over the 'daily limit'. I find the way they are posted at the moment more confusing and time consuming and I often run out of entries because I have forgotten to share or I have lost count of how many I have entered for a particular mag! :(
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea
