Thanks Glad, so do you think the poll question should be 'Should Mag Dailies go back to being stickied on one thread on main forum, and not be posted individually'? (with the exception of mag dailies specials?) or what question should it be?

I think the previous polls/discussions answered that :)
If direct links on mag dailies go back to how they were, it would make even more work if the comps are still posted on main board, linked to mag dailies thread, and then changed to direct link.

in that case best leave it as it is :) it's not perfect but by whatever method you comp you should be able to find and enter the comps :)

I haven't had time to read the whole thread yet so forgive me if I repeat anything that's already been said, but I really REALLY would like to see a return to how things were pre-November, with the mag daily sticky containing direct links to the mag competitions themselves. Please please please could this be considered, it saved so much time!

I have no objection to the mag dailies being posted on the main board, but I can't see what possible benefit there is to the daily thread containing links to the main board which then link to the mags. It's infuriating and doing it that way takes forever to get through!!

It seems to me like the current way of doing things is not really helping anyone. It's a lot of work for the posters involved especially for the shared prizes, where one prize involves seven different "comps" or links to be posted.
  • I've got used to Faffing around opening thread after thread now so I don't care. As for them being posted individually on the main board, I just put a cross on them and move on. I know which ones I've entered so I don't even bother opening them now, but feel sorry for the poster as they're missing out on Thanks, but to open them all and thank each time... Jeeeez, I wouldn't fit even 1 hours sleep in.

Personally I preferred it as it was posted by cornish on the sticky with direct links. The new way clogs up the main board, makes extra work for jambo and extra time for mag daily compers without a direct link - now the mags have expanded so much time if of the essence. The thread was easy to find for those that looked for it. I don't see the point of posting on the main board as well, you aren't likely to win a mag daily from one entry so not sure of its purpose.
But I think this has all been said already, maybe a simple vote would be better.
I'd also like to add my huge thanks to both Cornish and Jambo for their postings.

I don't know if this will help anyone but since the mags have changed from direct links I actually enter them in a different way.

I go straight to the mag website & click on & enter the ones you want to.

Now as you all know I have several different illnesses one of those makes me have a very bad memory. So I did not think this would work for me, but you would be surprised it does.

I don't need a list of what the answers are because each daily mag comp is open for so long you do remember the answers.

Why don't you try & enter them this way when you do them today & just see for yourself. You have not lost anything because if it's not for you or you don't remember the answer you do have the daily mag thread to check, or go back to.

Here is the list I work from, it would be great if this list could be copy & pasted onto the daily mag thread for people who wish to use this way.

  • I personally preferred them the way they were before Christmas all in one place . I know I had only been doing them a relatively short time before the changeover before Christmas, but I found it easy to explore the forum and decide what I wanted to enter. I just assumed that mag dailies were in their own thread just as RC, dailies, weeklies etc etc etc and people went into that thread if they chose to do so. Because I do not enter TW, FB etc I dare say I could be missing out on some decent prizes? but that's my choice but I could always browse there for myself to see if I am missing anything. I know there was an issue with big prizes on mags being missed (and I do get that) - if people did not enter into mag daily thread (as it was)they would miss them, but it is the same as any of the threads it is choice whether you go into them , bookmark them or whatever way you choose to comp. In saying that, I dont mind them on the main comp board also as I can just 'X' them off as I know I will be entering the mag thread anyway and they will be on there - if that makes any sense.:) Thanks to CP and JDP for all their hard work past and present it really is appreciated:)

This is what I have found myself doing lately, but there is a risk in doing this; moreover that risk is the whole reason why this entire debate blew up: the magazines sometimes run "specials" which DON'T appear in the lists of prize draws on the mag sites. The only way we were able to find these, was from links posted on the mag thread. So if I or anyone else were to continue to enter directly from the magazine sites and bypass the mag thread, we run the risk of missing these big comps should they run again.

So for that reason I'd like to see the thread STAY but in the form it was pre-November, with direct links.

Can I just add, I think the whole "dailies are hidden away" thing is a bit of an exaggeration. The thread was a sticky for goodness sake, there at the top of the main board for all to see, those that chose not to use it that's their choice. I choose not to do rafflecopters or many weekly comps, but that's up to me, I'm not going to moan that the comps are hidden away just because I can't be bothered to look them out.

As it happens, I've won two MD comps with one entry only, one since it's gone back to being posted on the main board.

I'm fully in the camp that the comps should be posted on the main board and it's not a case of being lazy as someone posted earlier in the thread but it's just easier as I work through the main board, much as it's easier on the other hand for the MD'ers to have their thread.

As for the hiding away debate, I understand it's my choice to enter through the sticky, but the slight flaw in cagsd's argument is that unlike the mag dailies, the rafflecopters and weekly comps were posted originally in the main thread, and then linked to the RC/regular thread/board, whereas the MD's weren't.

Reading from what Glad has mentioned in the thread, it seems that the MD thread can be setup by whoever is running it as they wish. So if Jambo wants to put the direct links in, then he can if he likes, that's how it's coming across to my unintelligent eyes.
Golly, I've got the newt pregnant...
